Boots' budget-friendly HABI skincare has been tested on teen skin and costs under £7.50
It feels like over the years, skincare routines have grown more and more expensive, often requiring a science degree to decipher the inkey list. But Boots has come to the rescue with a new brand that proves looking after your skin doesn't have to break the bank, or have you turning to ChatGPT to work out how to use it.
Habi is a high-performing, low-cost skincare line that's putting the fun and simplicity back into skincare. After launching a range of health supplements earlier this year, Habi - a brand built on cultivating good habits - took the next step into skincare earlier this month.
I knew it was going to be an affordable brand, but I must admit I was stunned when I saw the price list. Every single item in the collection priced at £7.50 or under, it undercuts even Boots' own affordable No7 Good Intent line (£15 and under) and competes with the likes of Byoma and Bubble for Gen Z-friendly, budget-conscious beauty.
The packaging is bold and playful, the formulations are vegan, cruelty-free and dermatologically tested, and the actives inside, from niacinamide to triple ceramides, are the kind of ingredients usually found in much more premium lines. I've tried five of the eight products in the Habi skincare range, and here's the full verdict.
Pros:
Affordable with every product £7.50 or less
Well-formulated featuring trusted active ingredients
Vegan, cruelty-free, and dermatologically tested - including on teenage skin
Aesthetic packaging and textures
Layer well and are refreshingly simple
Cons:
Jelly cleanser underperformed for me personally
SPF pump is finicky and didn't dispense consistently
HABI Clean Slate Jelly Cleanser - £7
For those into sensory skincare, this jelly cleanser delivers. It's got a light, bouncy texture that's satisfying to massage in, and contains soothing ingredients like Green Tea Leaf Water and Allantoin. It reminds me a lot of the Byoma Creamy Jelly Cleanser, which costs £9.99, and also harnesses the power of green tea extracts.
While the Habi formula is great as a morning or second cleanse, it didn't fully remove my makeup and did sting a little around the eyes, so I'd opt for Habi's Moisture Melt cleansing balm next time for a bit more oomph.
That said, it's already earned some five star reviews from fans, with one commenting: 'This felt very gentle on the skin and removed make up residue leaving my skin feeling nice and fresh.'
However, one did leave a one-star rating, noting that they had experienced 'sensitive skin' after using the product. Another shopper said: 'This cleanser is so good. Once used it doesn't leave your skin feeling tight and dried out. It also has no scent which can make it usable for sensitive prone skin. The packaging is so sleek and easy and effective to use.'
HABI Spritz Saviour Face Mist - £6.50
Perfect for sensitive skin, this lightweight mist contains a triple ceramide complex and anti-irritant allantoin. It feels really refreshing on the skin, and can be used under or over makeup, making it a great summer skincare staple for at home or on the go.
'It is very effective as it gives my skin a beautiful refresh,' another shopper agreed. 'Also the packaging is so aesthetically pleasing. The product is lightweight on my skin which makes it not overstimulating.'
Some people disliked that it was unfragranced, commenting: 'The scent isn't the most appealing it's not really got a scent, just sort of smells like the container.' For those looking for fragranced mists, I really like the Mario Badescu range.
Their Spritz. Mist. Glow. set, worth £34.50, is currently £20.50 and gets shoppers three different sprays. One is a cooling Aloe, Cucumber, and Green Tea to cool and quench skin, while Aloe, Herbs, and Rosewater revives dehydrated skin. Finally, there's the Aloe, Chamomile, and Lavender mist for delivering calm, balanced and bright skin.
HABI Hydra Glow Hydrating Serum - £6.50
Containing niacinamide and hyaluronic acid, this is a thick serum that absorbs quickly without feeling heavy on the skin. It delivers exactly what it promises - glow and hydration, leaving the skin feeling bouncy and plump while over time, smoothing the appearance of skin texture.
Skincare enthusiasts have already hailed it their 'new favourite serum'. They added: 'My skin just after a few days is hydrated and looks more fresh. It's not scented which is nice and the packaging is cute. I use this under my No7 moisturiser.'
Another added: 'Really impressed with this serum. It feels super lightweight on the skin and soaks in quickly. My face feels more hydrated and looks a bit more glowy after just a few uses. Love that it has niacinamide and hyaluronic acid – perfect for daily use without feeling heavy or sticky.'
HABI Hydra Boost Hydrating Moisturiser - £7
I love the dispenser for this moisturiser, which is packed with triple ceramide complex and squalane. It's got a rich and creamy consistency with an almost gel-like texture that doesn't overwhelm pores. It feels way more luxurious than its £7 price tag, and has been tested on teen skin, so you can rest assured that it's not overloaded with unnecessary ingredients that will break you out or damage the skin barrier.
If I had to compare it to a higher end product, I'd be inclined to pit it against Drunk Elephant's Protini Polypeptide Cream, which has a similar dispenser and texture - though the ingredients and actives vary. The Habi Hydra Boost is a great choice for dry skin, but for those with oilier complexions, the Habi Moisture Magic Water Moisturiser, starring Green Tea Leaf Water and Niacinamide, might be a better option.
HABI Sunny Shield SPF 40 - £7
Finally, there's the Sunny Shield SPF, had a shaky start with an awkward pump that delivered an inconsistent amount of product, but it redeemed itself fast. Applying it to the skin, I thought I'd applied too much but all at once it seems to sink in and the glow it leaves behind is unreal. Plus the slightly tacky finish makes it a brilliant makeup primer. It may not be for those who prefer a matte finish on no-makeup days.
Overall, Habi is a really exciting new addition to Boots' shelves. It takes the term budget skincare to a whole new level. They're even on three for two and Advantage Card holders can get 10% off. That means shoppers could essentially get all eight products in the range - the others being spot stickers, the cleansing balm and an alternative moisturiser - plus an additional product for £35.10 (or less than £4 each). While not every product is for me, some will definitely find their way into my rotation and I would happily purchase products in this range for my tween niece.

Amazon's better than Boots deal cuts 'fast absorbing' Olay night cream by 55%
One shopper who has used it for years says it 'keeps fine lines from developing into wrinkles' When it comes to your nightly skincare routine, nobody wants to spend ages prepping before bed. So you're after something that's streamlined, effective, and genuinely beneficial. Products that offer dual benefits are thus a blessing when it's late, and all you want is to hit the sack. That's why numerous customers have been singing praises for the Olay Retinol 24 MAX Night Cream. It merges the anti-ageing and skin renewal properties of a serum with the hydration and skin-smoothing effects of a moisturiser. Though typically priced at £44, Amazon has currently included it in a limited-time offer, slashing the price by 55 per cent to £19.98, saving you over £24. This deal also competes with Boots, where the same cream is currently discounted from £43.99 to £21.99, making it £2 pricier – plus, Amazon Prime members enjoy the added perk of free next-day delivery. The Olay Retinol 24 MAX Night Cream enhances your skin's moisture levels with 50 per cent more hydrating ingredients and is claimed to transform the softness and smoothness of your skin after just one night's use. It also aids in reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles over time. The cosmetic contains retinyl propionate, which penetrates deep into your skin's layers to smooth out texture, along with vitamin E and 50 per cent more glycerin for a soft, smooth look, reports the Mirror. For alternative choices, Paula's Choice Anti-Ageing Intensive Repair Moisturiser is presently discounted from £39 to £33.15. Featuring an exceptionally rich formula containing 0.2 per cent retinol, it strengthens the skin's protective barrier whilst diminishing fine lines, offering a mild introduction to retinol skincare. In addition, Medik8's Intelligent Retinol Smoothing Night Cream receives excellent reviews, boasting gradual-release 0.2% retinol that's suitable for newcomers to retinol. Though it commands a higher price point at £60 for a 50ml pot compared to alternative products. Meanwhile, the Olay Retinol 24 MAX Night Cream provides an excellent gateway for incorporating retinol into evening skincare regimens without risking harm to your skin's protective barrier. Amazon customers have embraced this moisturiser enthusiastically, with many reporting years of successful usage. One shopper commented: "Love this, I've been using it for years. It keeps skin from developing fine lines into wrinkles." A second user concurred: "This is an excellent cream. The face feels soft after I put it on at night. It's also fast absorbing, which ensures that there is no residue on my pillow when sleeping." A third reviewer noted: "One of the best night creams for combined skin." Beauty deal of the week YSL Black Opium remains an iconic perfume - and we know where to bag the newest edition for its cheapest price. The YSL BLack Opium Le Parfum offers a more vanilla-heavy fragrance that has been hailed as "intoxicating" in reviews, with a 50ml now half-price at Boots after being dropped from £115 to £57.50. Massive saving aside, it's the cheapest it can be bought for at the moment, as rival retailers Superdrug, Lookfantastic and The Perfume Shop still stock it at full-price. This interpretation of the iconic perfume was only launched in 2022, with its original floral gourmand fragrance still offering its famed notes that include pear accord, green mandarin, orange flower petals, jasmine sambac and cinnamon. However, the iconic coffee accord has been twisted with four different, yet still complimentary, notes of vanilla, which is said to be its most important ingredient, to create an "unexpected smoothness, with uncompromising intensity." Meanwhile, the unique glossy bottle that has been crafted from a precious black stone, with its dazzling glitter emblem at the heart, eludes to the luxuriousness of the fragrance contained within. As for the YSL Black Opium Le Parfum, Boots shoppers wanting to take advantage of the half-price discount will be glad to hear it has amassed a 4.7 rating from thousands of customers who say it "lasts all day" and "literally turns heads" when it is worn. One five-star review read: "I love the fragrance. I used a lot the first time, not realising how intense it was. It lasts all day and continues to smell great. I literally turn heads when I wear it." Don't miss Boots' half-price discount on the YSL Black Opium Le Parfum (50ml) that is now £57.50, down from £115. However, some customers found it underwhelming, with one stating: "Not really that impressed, find no difference and it leaves my skin a bit dry." Another customer shared similar sentiments: "Seems a good cream but I'm not sure it's great for a more mature skin. It absorbs well but, for me, not very moisturising." Others were enamoured with the product, however. One five-star reviewer commented: "Wonderful night cream. Feels silky and easily and quickly absorbed into skin. Helps to keep my skin hydrated. Good price." Another satisfied customer remarked: "Lovely. Moisturising with a silky feel. My skin looks fresh and clear."

My Gen Z son commits a hate crime every time he makes a cuppa… and he's not alone
One of the first things we do when my Irish mother-in-law comes over is, of course, put the kettle on. She is also the only person we get the teapot and tea cosy out for, but unfortunately this ritual seems to have bypassed my kids completely. My 16-year-old Gen Z son, Charlie, uses the microwave for everything, including – shock horror – making a cup of tea. And, according to a new survey, he is not alone. Apparently, almost two-thirds of under-30s make tea in the microwave, a Uswitch poll of 2,000 Brits has shown. Why Gen Zs – that baffling and unknowable generation born between 1997 and 2012 – are kettle-dodgers who would rather pop a teabag in a mug of cold water and heat it in the mee-cro-wah-vey, as Nigella Lawson rechristened it, defeats me. It's clearly not about saving time or effort. 'Microwave heating can produce uneven temperature,' says Dr Tim Bond from the Tea Advisory Panel. He also advises that 'heating a mug of water in a microwave takes about two minutes and 40 seconds – significantly longer than the 48 seconds required to boil the same volume in a kettle.' Even longer than that if, like my son, they use one of those hideous, oversized Sports Direct mugs. And it's not a taste thing either: a microwaved brew is 'flat, with a stewed flavour,' says Dr Bond, and offers 'inconsistent extraction of tea bioactives, which are packed with health and wellness benefits '. So it's not better for you. We've heard the debates about whether to put milk in first or last (last, obviously), but for Gen Z, the only question is how long to put it all in the microwave for. My son says he worries that the kettle might become too hot to use and, in his words, 'overboil'. The microwave is, he thinks, a safer bet. I haven't the energy to tell him how microwaved water can become 'superheated' and bubble over the moment the cup is moved. I can't help thinking that microwaving tea is less a TikTok craze (though American influencers went through a phase of filming themselves 'making an English cuppa' in this way) or another small act of Gen Z rebellion, and more a case of kettle-phobia. When Charlie was eight, I left him and his siblings in the care of my Boomer dad. Charlie burned his hand on the hob and has been a bit wary around kitchen appliances, including the kettle, ever since. And yet he will quite happily blast the Nutribullet multiple times a day to make protein shakes… I can certainly attest to how revolting a microwaved brew is. One Mother's Day, my kids sweetly offered to make me breakfast in bed. Alongside some charred toast with a great dollop of butter was a mug of what looked like taupe-coloured sludge, the teabag floating at the top. Yuck. 'Looks lovely, thanks, darlings,' I said before nipping discreetly to the loo to chuck it away. I remember a time when I had three kids under five and rarely got to finish a hot cuppa, so would quite often use the microwave to reheat my tea – but only after I'd made it properly first. I once found a mug in the microwave which had obviously been festering there for several days. Experts say the best way to make a cup of tea is to pour boiling water over a teabag and leave it to steep for three to five minutes without stirring, before adding a splash of milk. I hope that, in time, my kids will see sense and that they will never subject my mother-in-law to a microwaved brew. I can only imagine how horrified she would be. She would probably spit it right out of her china cup.

Yorkshire skincare brand shoppers 'wish' existed 'when my breakouts were bad as a teen'
One of Britain's fastest-growing beauty brands has a number of products to leave skin feeling smooth and glowy. Skincare is a top priority for many and almost everyone prioritising their skin health as part of a dedicated beauty regime. Finding the correct products that won't lead to irritation and problems can be difficult and for many it can be a frustrating time. Now however, a beauty revolution has been born in the heart of Yorkshire - perhaps not where everyone would expect. 47 Skin, which has been named one of the UK's fastest-growing privately held businesses by The Sunday Times 100 List, for the second year in a row, now has a number of products which include their unique ingredient - Silver Chitoderm. In 2024 the brand ranked 52nd on the list, and landed at 55th in 2025 - making it a full-circle moment for them as in 2003, founder Nic's father made the very same list. Silver Chitoderm is an ingredient unique to 47 Skin and together the silver and the chitoderm bond create an invisible barrier, killing 99.9% of the bacteria that causes breakouts, the brand explains. The brand's founder Nic explains that he had been suffering from blemishes for over ten years, before a parcel arrived out of the blue from his Grandma. 47 Skin is one of Britain's fastest-growing beauty brands £29 £29 47 Skin Buy Here Product Description He explains: "I'd tried what felt like every single product and treatment under the sun and spent thousands of pounds. Nothing worked. I even resorted to medication which led to a short period of depression. But in January 2017, Grandma sent me a pot of cream through the post with a handwritten note urging me to try it. I was sceptical, but to my complete surprise it cleared my spots and blemishes in just four days.""I was so amazed with the results that I tracked down and partnered with the scientist behind the formulation. Now our mission is to spread the word through our range of incredible products and skin-positive community. At 47 Skin, we understand exactly how spots, blemishes and skin concerns can make you feel from the inside out." Shoppers can try a range of their products such as the Anti-Blemish & Scar Repair Everyday Cleanser for £29, which is used to help promote clearer skin, and leaves skin feeling silky soft and hydrated. Another option is the Anti-Blemish & Scar Repair Silver Mask for £24 which is designed to soothe, brighten and reduce redness and inflammation. There's also a best seller, the Anti-Blemish & Scar Repair Serum for £29, which naturally soothes and protects skin and leaves it feeling soft and hydrated and another product is their Anti-Blemish & Scar Repair Daily Moisturiser for £34 which is a lightweight, oil-free daily moisturiser. However, if this brand isn't for everyone, they could try others such as The Ordinary Essentials Bundle for £28.20 from Boots. This comes with a natural moisturising factors and hyaluronic acid daily moisturiser, a hyaluronic acid 2% and B5 hydrating serum, a squalane cleanser for all skin types and niacinamide 10% + zinc 1% oil control serum. Another option could be the Medik8 Blemish Sos 15ml from LookFantastic for £25 which is a fast-acting gel that dries invisibly and leaves no residue. Shoppers have rated 47 Skin quite highly however as one person, Anna, said in June 2025: 'I love 47 skin and would recommend anyone with blemish prone skin to use it. I wish when my breakouts were bad as a teenager that 47 skin existed honestly." Another named Gioia said: "It's the clearest my skin has looked in over 10 years." Some others did share mixed reviews on Trustpilot however with one person saying: "It's made no difference at all to my skin after a month of using it." "I really tried everything possible.. I tried a few different brands which didn't make much difference, then my friend recommended 47Skin and I absolutely love it! The quality is so good and I notice such a difference in my skin! I used to be so self conscious about going make-up free in summer/at the beach and now I feel so much more confident - definitely recommend!" said Zoe.
