PM Narendra Modi launches development projects worth ₹13,480 crore in Bihar's Madhubani
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated a wide range of development projects in Madhubani that focused on strengthening Bihar's infrastructure and public services. During his visit, Modi laid foundation stones and inaugurated various projects worth over ₹13,480 crore.
Modi reached around 11.45 am, where he participated in the National Panchayati Raj Day programme. He will also present national awards to village councils in recognition of their outstanding contributions, news agency ANI reported.
Among the infrastructure projects, Modi laid the foundation stone for a new LPG bottling plant in Hathua, located in Gopalganj district. The facility, costing around ₹340 crore, will include a rail unloading unit and is expected to significantly enhance LPG supply logistics in the region.
To boost the energy sector, the Prime Minister kick-started new power projects worth ₹1,170 crore and inaugurated others valued at over ₹5,030 crore. These projects fall under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme.

Rail infrastructure is another major highlight. PM Modi flagged off several new trains, including the Amrit Bharat Express from Saharsa to Mumbai and the Namo Bharat Rapid Rail between Jaynagar and Patna. New train services will also be launched between Pipra–Saharsa and Saharsa–Samastipur.
Additionally, a series of rail infrastructure upgrades was inaugurated. These include the Supaul–Pipra and Hasanpur–Bithan rail lines, two new two-lane rail overbridges in Chapra and Bagaha, and the completed Khagaria–Alauli rail line. These upgrades aim to boost connectivity and strengthen the movement of goods and people across the region.
Modi will provide benefits of ₹930 crore to more than 2 lakh self-help groups in Bihar. This support is under a government scheme called Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana- National Rural Livelihoods Mission (DAY- NRLM).
Housing is another key area of focus. The PM is scheduled to distribute approval letters to 15 lakh new beneficiaries of the PMAY-Gramin scheme and release instalments for 10 lakh existing recipients. Keys to new homes will also be handed over to families — 1 lakh under the rural scheme (PMAY-G) and 54,000 under the urban version (PMAY-U) in Bihar.
Dilip Kumar, who is the executive director for information and publicity, said after being launched by Modi, the second batch of the indigenous Namo Bharat Rapid Rail will be deployed on the Jaynagar–Patna route.
'...Till now, two rakes of Namo Bharat Rapid Rail have been made in the country. The first train set was operated between Bhuj and Ahmedabad, and now the second train set is ready. It has been decided that it will be operated between Jaynagar and Patna... This is a fully AC train... This train has 18 coaches and has a seating capacity of more than 2,000 people. There will be no need for the reservation in this…,' Kumar said.
Although today's visit is focused on development, security has been significantly tightened across Bihar due to a recent terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam district. Extra precautions are being taken, especially along the India–Nepal border. Security checks have been increased at public spaces such as stations, markets, and religious places, with close monitoring of any potential threats.

ANI Hurriyat leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq Srinagar: Hurriyat leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Friday said that if the Prime Minister truly seeks to reduce the 'Dil Ki Doori' then humanitarian steps like release of prisoners need to be taken immediately. Mirwaiz while addressing a Friday gathering here at historic Jama Masjid in downtown Srinagar said that train links are a welcome, but it is the human links that truly matter and endure. On the eve of Eid-ul-Adha, Mirwaiz said that for thousands of families in J&K, the festival brings no joy. 'Their sons, husbands, fathers and brothers have been incarcerated for years—many without trial—in jails within and outside J&K. And each passing day, more of our youth are detained,' said Mirwaiz. The Hurriyat chief said that all such prisoners, including political leadership, remain in the prayers and thoughts of the people. Mirwaiz urged Government of India that a goodwill gesture be made on the occasion of Eid, by releasing these prisoners. 'If the Prime Minister truly seeks to reduce the 'dil ki doori' (distance of hearts) which he often mentions in his speeches, then such humanitarian steps are the real way forward. Train links are welcome, but it is the human links that truly matter and endure," said Mirwaiz. The Hurriyat leader also condemned the tragic and inhuman killing of 30-year-old Zubair Bhat of Ali Kadal, Srinagar, who was working in New Delhi. "The incident is deeply disturbing and unacceptable. Zubair's custodial-like death—allegedly at the hands of Delhi police as claimed by his family—has brought back haunting memories of such deaths and raised serious concerns regarding the safety and security of Kashmiris residing or working in different parts of India," said Mirwaiz. The Hurriyat leader said that the killing has sent shockwaves through the community and added to the prevailing fear and anxiety among the thousands of Kashmiri students, professionals, traders, and labourers living outside J&K. 'After the recent Pahalgam incident, Kashmiris across the country are increasingly facing hostility. And now, an innocent young trader has been killed in cold blood. How long will this go on?' Mirwaiz asked. The Hurriyat leader urged the Government of India and the Union Territory administration to fulfill their constitutional responsibility and ensure the safety, security, and dignity of all Kashmiri citizens, especially those outside the region. 'The silence and inaction only embolden those targeting Kashmiris,' he also made a heartfelt appeal to civil rights organisations, writers, intellectuals, and conscientious citizens of India to raise their voice against "the growing onslaught on Kashmiris and to stand up in solidarity with the victims of such brutality."

Indian Railways invites applications for K-Ride MD post to fast-track Bengaluru Suburban Rail project
BENGALURU: After a long gap to speed up completion of the Suburban Rail project, Indian Railways has put out an advertisement, calling for applications for the post of Managing Director of Rail Infrastructure Development Company (Karnataka) Limited (K-Ride). Experts and officials in K-Ride said this is a welcome and much-needed move to pace up the project. The Railways has listed details of the post which is for a duration of three years. According to K-Ride sources, the only time the department had a full time managing director was in 2021, when Amit Garg held the post. After that, many IAS officers have been posted, holding concurrent charge. 'With Railways inviting applications, it shows the push. But this is also late -- when the foundation for the project was laid in June 2022 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he had assured its completion in 40 months, and the term ends in October 2025. However, the MD's official posting will take at least another two months as the last date to submit applications for the post is July 5, 2025,' the source said. The government has listed out criteria details for the post: The applicant should not be above 55 years of age as on March 31, 2025. The applicant should have a minimum of 25 years experience of which at least five years should be in Senior Administrative Grade. The applicant should also have five years experience or more in the planning/ design/ execution of railway-related infrastructure projects. The criterion also stated: 'It is desirable to have the experience of projects report preparation, sanction, resource mobilization and coordination with other ministers and stake holders.' Experts also pointed out that the state and central governments have not taken serious note of the need to execute the project. The long delays have only made Bengaluru's traffic management worse.
