Felix's SoftPOS Payment Platform Achieves MPoC Certification

Cloud-based contactless payment platform certified as a Mobile Payments on Commercial off the Shelf (MPoC) software by the Payment Card Industry (PCI) Security Standards Council
VANCOUVER, BC, June 2, 2025 /CNW/ – Felix Payment Systems Ltd. (Felix) today announced that its contactless cloud-based SoftPOS payment platform has achieved the Payment Card Industry's (PCI) Mobile Payments on Commercial off the Shelf (MPoC) certification. The MPoC credential is an important achievement for Felix. It represents a significant milestone in the company's journey to become a global leader in SoftPOS technologies.
Felix is a Vancouver-based financial technology company that specializes in cloud-based payment solutions. The company developed the world's first fully cloud-based contactless kernel platform that transforms any near field communication (NFC)-enabled device—such as smartphones, tablets, POS displays or kiosks—into a certified, secure payment terminal. This technology eliminates the need for traditional hardware like dongles or dedicated terminals. The setup enables merchants to accept payments via Visa, Mastercard, American Express and Discover with a simple tap.
Felix serves a diverse range of industries, including retail, hospitality, sports and entertainment, healthcare and transit with a particular focus on large-scale businesses. Felix offers an easily adaptable software development kit (SDK) that facilitates quick deployment and seamless integration across different platforms and devices.
'Becoming MPoC certified is a major step forward for Felix,' said Andrew Cole, the company's CEO. 'Our success in earning this certification is a tribute to our team's determination and commitment. Our group has worked diligently to achieve this global standard which supports our mission to deliver industry leading digital payment solutions to our customers.'
The MPoC standard, developed and governed by the PCI Security Standards Council, is the most advanced and comprehensive guideline for contactless payments on commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) devices. Felix adheres to MPoC's rigorous security and performance requirements. The company stands out in the payments industry as one of only a few global players certified as an isolated SDK software, which deploys and manages secure contactless transactions across a wide range of COTS devices.
MPoC certification requires that SoftPOS vendors adhere to a variety of features and standards, including:
Security of payment data
COTS device compliance
Security threat mitigation
Integrity of the payment process
Attestation and monitoring
Isolated software development kits (SDKs)
The CEO added, 'In addition to offering a fully isolated cloud-based SDK, Felix also provides merchants with pre-certified connectivity to major acquirers, including Chase, FISERV, Elavon, TSYS, Heartland, and North American Bancard. This inherent feature provides the benefits and functionality of a gateway, allowing customers to maintain their existing banking relationships.'

Spain cancels purchase of Israeli anti-tank missiles: reports

MADRID: Spain, which has strongly criticised Israel's offensive in Gaza, has cancelled a contract to buy 168 firing posts and 1,680 anti-tank missiles from Israeli defence company Rafael, Spanish media reported Wednesday. The deal was worth 287.5 million euros ($327 million), according to top-selling daily Spanish newspaper El País, which cited unnamed government sources. The equipment was to be manufactured in Spain under licence from Rafael. Spanish defence ministry sources told AFP that the government 'has begun a process to revoke licences of Israeli origin' and was working to redirect its procurement programmes 'with the goal of achieving greater technological independence and autonomy'. Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez's criticisms of the offensive in Gaza infuriated Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's government last year by recognising a Palestinian state. In late April, Spain cancelled a contract to buy bullets from another Israeli company, IMI Systems, following pressure from the Socialist-led government's far-left coalition partner Sumar -- a move swiftly condemned by Israel. Labour Minister Yolanda Diaz, the founder of Sumar, said at the time that Spain could not engage in 'business with a genocidal government... that is massacring the Palestinian people'. Sanchez's government said it halted weapons transactions with Israel after the start of the war following Hamas's attack on Israel on October 7, 2023. But according to Centre Delas, a Barcelona-based think tank specialising in security and defence, the government has granted 46 contracts worth more than 1 billion euros to Israeli companies based on data published on a public tenders platform.

Ascend Airways eyes November cargo ops

PETALING JAYA: Ascend Airways Malaysia, a new Malaysia-based airline and a part of Avia Solutions Group – the largest ACMI (aircraft, crew, maintenance and insurance) provider in the world, has advanced to Phase 3 of its Air Operator Certificate (AOC) application process. The new ACMI and charter solutions provider is targeting to launch its cargo operations in November 2025, with passenger flights to follow. In 2024, Ascend Airways Malaysia was granted its Conditional Air Service Permit (CASP) from the Malaysian Aviation Commission (Mavcom) and has since been working closely with the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) in order to obtain its Air Operator Certificate (AOC). The process is currently in its final stages with full flight operations expected to commence by the end of 2025. The Kuala Lumpur-based ACMI and charter airline will offer both passenger and cargo operations. Its first B737-800 freighter aircraft will arrive in Malaysia Q3'25 to facilitate the necessary processes of the issuance of the full AOC and the launch of the airline's cargo operations. Subsequently, the second and third passenger B737-800 aircraft will be inducted into the Malaysian airline's fleet by end of 2025 and early 2026, respectively. 'As it is our mission to support the growth of local and regional airlines, we want to become a trusted ACMI partner that can help them increase operational agility and capture the rising demand for passenger and cargo operations, which is on the rise in the Asia-Pacific region,' said Ascend Airways Malaysia CEO Germal Singh Khera. As a new ACMI airline in Malaysia, he added they are continuously grateful for the support, global outlook and approach they receive from the Transport Ministry, CAAM, Mavcom and other relevant authorities that are advancing the aviation industry in Malaysia. 'This overwhelming support has allowed us to set up a robust operational foundation to assist air operators and their ambition in the region,' said Germal Singh. Ascend Airways Malaysia aims to provide a vital solution of aircraft wet leasing in Malaysia and the Asia-Pacific, enabling airlines and logistics companies to scale their operations and secure additional revenue during peak season. This model also allows air operators to navigate operational challenges such as unexpected flight disruptions and prolonged maintenance events. 'Ascend Airways remains focused and committed to deliver flexible ACMI solutions and develop its seasonal fleet strategy between the UK and Malaysia, and the Asia-Pacific region. ACMI is a proven solution for airlines seeking to efficiently meet dynamic travel demand and unlock new revenue opportunities. We are resolute in our aspirations to be leaders in this space,' said Alastair Willson, CEO of the UK-based Ascend Airways, the sister company of Ascend Airways Malaysia.

JF Tech completes Q3 Probe acquisition to boost vertical integration

KOTA DAMANSARA: Main market-listed leading innovator and manufacturer of high-performance test contacting solutions for global integrated circuit (IC) makers, JF Technology Bhd's wholly-owned subsidiary, JF International Sdn Bhd (JFI), has completed the acquisition of an 80% equity interest in Q3 Probe Pte Ltd for US$1.36 million, or approximately RM6.0 million, from the US-based parent company, Spire Manufacturing Inc (SMI). The group also has the option to acquire the remaining 20% equity interest in Q3 by December 31, 2027. JF Technology managing director Datuk Foong Wei Kuong said this acquisition brings forward momentum as the addition of Q3 is a highly synergistic move. 'It further enhances our vertical integration and elevates the group within the dynamic semiconductor supply chain. 'Q3 Proba's expertise in front-end wafer testing perfectly complements our test engineering solutions business. 'This creates a powerful combination that enables us to expand the business on a global scale,' he said in a statement. Foong said by bringing Q3's capabilities into JF Technology's fold, the company is enhancing its test engineering solutions business and reinforcing its position across the entire semiconductor value chain—from front-end to back-end testing. 'We are now the only provider in Malaysia with such a comprehensive probe card product line,' he said. Foong also noted that this vertical integration is a core pillar of JF Technology's ongoing JF 4.0 Transformation. 'We also plan to set up a production line in Malaysia to produce Q3's products to serve our strong customer base of more than 200 multinational corporations. 'Looking ahead, while we are navigating through a period of heightened geopolitical tensions, we continue to see vast opportunities ahead, especially from the electric vehicle (EV) applications,' he said. Q3 is a specialist in manufacturing probe cards based in Singapore, supplying patented products to its customers. For the financial year ended December 31, 2023, Q3 delivered a net profit of approximately S$231,000 or RM767,000. The acquisition is structured with a 3-year performance earn-out arrangement amounting to US$90,670, or approximately RM401,000, at the end of each calendar year for 3 years post-closing, totaling US$272,010, or approximately RM1.2 million, contingent on meeting the profit guarantee by the vendor.
