Just 31 Affordable Walmart Products That'll Help Parents Save A Little Money
Kids aren't cheap, but here are some fantastic parenting aids that are, from playtime to snacktime and any time in between.
1. A magnetic dry-erase whiteboard because "parent brain" is a real thing, and you're going to be forgetting more than you remember (like what of the million things you need for the kids you're currently running out of).
Walmart
Promising review:"The eraser is a mini bulletin board. The dot is a pin they provided. The marker has an eraser on it and had good ink. The board didn't smear when erased, and it came with stickers to put it on a wall and magnets to put it on a fridge. Very nice for the price. About the size of a piece of paper." — Gabrielle
2. An easy-to-read ear and forehead thermometer that takes the temps (of very squirmy little creatures) with one-button operation. The display can be used at night without the need for a light and keep tabs on the last 20 readings.
Walmart
Promising review:"I have owned this for a couple of weeks now. Given its flu season and I work in a school, it has been a very handy item to have on me to help keep the children and myself as safe as possible. limiting our exposure as much as possible. So far, so good and very accurate. It has two buttons, one for ear temps and one for forehead temps. It also comes in a very soft carrying case that protects it from scratches. I would recommend this thermometer if you are looking for one." — Kimberly
3. A Lite-Brite set which comes with more templates and pegs and is bigger and brighter than the classic 1980s version. This gift might be the most affordable time machine money can buy for kids and, in all likelihood, adults.
Walmart
Promising review:"I got the 'Basic Fun Lite Brite Magic Screen Retro Style Toy' for our son because he is an art lover, and he can never have enough 'artsy' things to do around the house after homework is done. This combines pegs with light, and it's easy and fun at the same time: all you need to do after you are done with the art part is to push the button on the tablet to see the different lights show, and you can choose from: steady, random, pulsing and blinking. The pegs are different colors, and they are easy to push in in order to create your art piece, and my son did it in no time; he was skeptical at the beginning of what this really is but ended up enjoying himself!" — ChiagoExpert
4. A roll of heavy-duty, eco-friendly, machine-washable, reusable bamboo towels because you really have no idea how many paper towels you use cleaning up after the kids, do you? The answer is: too many!
Walmart
You don't realize how many paper towels you go through in a day until you run out of them (and can't easily restock your supply). Using these bamboo towels (which were recommended by a coworker) changed the way I approached cleaning up household messes. These were great for taking care of the kitchen countertop throughout the day (especially while trying to feed a toddler). I didn't quite make it to the six-month mark on one roll, but that's certainly a goal!
Promising review:"These are beyond wonderful. I ordered a roll and have been using the same four sheets for over a month. When they get dirty, I throw them in the washer and dryer. These towels are very absorbent and don't mildew. I just change them daily anyway. I read in the ad that this roll could last a year, and I believe it." — Susan
5. A two-pack of kids' art smocks to save the kids' clothes from all manner of paint and marker stains and, as an added bonus, can also be used for messy little eaters, too.
Walmart

Walmart

This is definitely a game you don't get tired of. I love that you can grab it and go. It can be stored in your purse, jacket pocket, or bookbag. I do wish they made one that was a bigger version that was not as compact because I would buy that one to keep for in-home use." — Shelly

Promising review:"I love this sterilizer bag. Before using these I would sterilize all my bottles and pump parts in a pot of boiling water. With this bag, I just toss a bunch of parts in, add a little water, and in a few minutes, I'm done. You can easily dump out the water without opening the bag and avoid burning your hands immediately by handling the bag using the cool tab. Some cutouts come with ribbons to make hanging ornaments, and cute stencils that you will need to use with toothpicks because they are very small. There are a lot of materials, and it's well worth the purchase. Just be sure and do the scratch art on a table with a durable covering, not because of damage but because of all the black flecks and shavings. They don't sweep up well and stick to hands and pretty much everything. Aside from this, anything made with these sheets looks extra cute and colorful." — Mariface

FDA warning: Don't eat these potentially radioactive shrimp sold at Walmart
You might want to think twice about buying this brand of shrimp next time you're shopping at Walmart. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration issued a warning to consumers about eating, selling or serving select brands of Great Value frozen raw shrimp due to contamination with a radioactive isotope. U.S. Customs and Border Protection alerted the FDA about the radioactive isotope, Cesium-137, after it was found in shipping containers at four U.S. seaports, according to the FDA. Here's what you need to know about the products that are affected and whether a recall will be imminent. What contaminated shrimp is the FDA warning consumers about? The Frozen Raw Ez Peel Tail-On Farm-Raised White Vannamei Shrimp in 2-pound bags distributed by Indonesia's BMS Foods tested positive for the contamination. The FDA is recommending a recall on certain BMS shrimp products even if they did not test positive. While a recall hasn't been conducted yet, the FDA is working with distributors and retailers 'to recommend' a recall. The following products are affected: Great Value brand frozen raw shrimp, lot code: 8005540-1, Best by Date: 3/15/2027 Great Value brand frozen raw shrimp, lot code: 8005538-1, Best by Date: 3/15/2027 Great Value brand frozen raw shrimp, lot code: 8005539-1, Best by Date: 3/15/2027 The products were sold in Walmart stores in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Missouri, Mississippi, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Texas and West Virginia, according to the FDA. What should people do if they have the contaminated raw shrimp? The FDA is advising people who might have raw, frozen shrimp in their freezers from Walmart that matches the descriptions to not cook or consume them. Instead, the agency is asking customers, distributors and retailers to throw the shrimp away. The FDA also says, 'If you suspect you have been exposed to elevated levels of cesium, talk to your healthcare provider.' Consuming food or water contaminated with Cs-137 in low doses over an extended period of time can create an elevated risk of cancer due to a breakdown in DNA in the body's living cells, according to the FDA. Walmart recalls frozen shrimp over potential radioactive contamination
Walmart has recalled frozen, raw shrimp sold in 13 states because federal health officials say it could have potential radioactive contamination. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration asked Walmart to pull three lots of Great Value brand frozen shrimp from stores after federal officials detected Cesium-137, a radioactive isotope, in shipping containers and a sample of breaded shrimp imported from Indonesia. The products could pose a 'potential health concern' for people exposed to low levels of Cesium-137 over time, FDA officials said. 'If you have recently purchased raw frozen shrimp from Walmart that matches this description, throw it away,' FDA officials said in a statement. The risk from the recalled shrimp is 'quite low,' said Donald Schaffner, a food safety expert at Rutgers University. Cesium-137 is a byproduct of nuclear reactions, including nuclear bombs, testing, reactor operations and accidents. It's widespread around the world, with trace amounts found in the environment, including soil, food and air. The level detected in the frozen breaded shrimp was far lower than FDA intervention levels. However, the agency said that avoiding potentially contaminated products could reduce exposure to low-level radiation that could lead to health problems over time. The FDA is investigating reports of Cesium-137 contamination in shipping containers and products processed by P.T. Bahari Makmur Sejati, doing business as BMS Foods of Indonesia. U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials alerted FDA that they found Cesium-137 in shipping containers sent to U.S. ports in Los Angeles, Houston, Miami and Savannah, Georgia. FDA officials collected several product samples and detected contamination in one sample of frozen breaded shrimp. The shipping containers and products were denied entry into the U.S. However, the FDA then learned that Walmart had received potentially affected products imported after the first detection, from shipments that did not trigger contamination alerts. Walmart immediately recalled the products, a company spokesperson said. They include Great Value brand frozen raw shrimp with lot codes 8005540-1, 8005538-1 and 8005539-1, all with best-by dates of March 15, 2027. The shrimp was sold in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Missouri, Mississippi, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Texas and West Virginia. Consumers should discard the products or return them to any Walmart store for refund. ___ The Associated Press Health and Science Department receives support from the Howard Hughes Medical Institute's Department of Science Education and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.
