Independent Bookstore Day is April 26: Here are the participating indie shops in Florida

Yahoo26-04-2025

Booklovers everywhere will be heading to their local indie shops Saturday, April 26, for Independent Bookstore Day.
Independent Bookstore Day, a "national one-day party" hosted by the American Booksellers Association on the last Saturday in April every year, hopes to bring attention to all the locally owned bookstores where you can get wander through the stacks, discover unexpected treasures, get great recommendations from friendly shopowners, and pet the cats.
More than 1,600 bookstores across the country are joining in this year's IBD celebrations and many will offer some of the 2025 limited edition exclusive merchandise. Many participating bookstores take the opportunity for a few sales of their own, plus local author appearances, games and other special events.
The Family Book Shop in DeLand is going all out for its 10th IBD, with a $5 coupon, multiple giveaways including a $50 gift certificate, signed books, specialty books and book-related merchandise.
"This year we also will have a special gift for the first 50 sales," said Kerry Johnson, co-owner of the shop, in an email, "and a gift for anyone who buys a banned book."
Independent Bookstore Day is Saturday, April 26, 2025. Check your local bookstore for store hours.
Independent Bookstore Day started in California in 2014 to bring customers away from big retailers and back into local shops in their own communities. It was modeled after the highly successful Record Store Day, according to the ABA.
Publishers will often show their support by creating unique, limited-edition books, often in special formats, signed by the authors or with creative add-ons, and fun book-based accessories and clothing only available on Independent Bookstore Day along with free stickers and other handouts.
This year, some stores will offer exclusive IBD merch such as author-signed books like the blockbuster romantasy "Lightlark" by Alex Aster, "Horror Movie" by Paul Tremblay and "Hot Mess (Diary of a Wimpy Kid #9)" by Jeff Kinney, an exclusive paperback edition of "What You Are Looking For Is In The Library" by Michiko Aoyama, tote bags, hats, t-shirts, Blackwing pencils, posters, prints, and a Frog and Toad coloring book to tie in with the beloved 1981 children's books and the recent Apple TV+ series.
Johnson said IDB is their single largest sales day of the year. "We look at it as a way to say thanks to our customers and to recognize the value and importance of independent bookstores to our community."
While any indie bookstore is worth checking out, these are the ones in Florida celebrating Independent Bookstore Day. The stores indicated will be offering the exclusive IBD merch while supplies last. You also can search the map.

Tim Miller Opens Up About The X-MEN Horror Movie He Almost Made: 'Home Alone Meets Alien' — GeekTyrant

While Marvel fans eagerly await the full-fledged return of the X-Men in the MCU, there's always a lingering curiosity about the mutant stories that never made it to screen. One of those lost gems was a Kitty Pryde horror movie pitched by Deadpool director Tim Miller, something he described as 'Home Alone meets Alien.' In a recent chat with The Hollywood Reporter, Miller revealed that he had once been developing an X-Men film based on Uncanny X-Men #143 by Chris Claremont and John Byrne. The story centers on a young Kitty Pryde left alone in the X-Mansion during the holidays. As the rest of the team takes a break, a demonic N'Garai creature infiltrates the house, leaving Kitty to face off against it in a terrifying solo survival scenario. No backup. No Wolverine. Just Kitty and a whole lot of monster-induced chaos. Miller talked about the project, calling Marvel's mutants their 'secret weapon,' and shared how passionate he was about the opportunity: 'The X-Men are my favorite characters, and I wrote to Kevin Feige like, 'If there was anything you'd ever let me do in the Marvel universe, the X-Men would be it.'' At one point, the project was actually taking shape. Miller was set to direct, and the script came from comic book legend Brian Michael Bendis. This was around 2018, right when Kitty was enjoying a run as Star-Lord in the Guardians of the Galaxy comics written by Bendis himself. But timing is everything, and this project was swept away during the Fox-Disney merger, joining the ranks of never-made X-projects like Gambit , Multiple Man , and a Fantastic Four crossover. While Fox's New Mutants flirted with horror, Miller's take would've been something totally different… intimate, suspenseful, and creature-focused. A mutant monster movie set entirely inside the X-Mansion? It's hard not to imagine what could've been. Still, Miller isn't dwelling in regret. He's grateful for the wild ride he's already had: 'I didn't expect to have my own studio, or to do Terminator: Dark Fate. Being able to do Love Death + Robots is probably my achievement I'm most proud of. I'm old, but I'm not done yet.' I love the idea of Kitty vs. Demon in a Haunted Mansion! That sounds like a fun flick and the kind of genre twist superhero movies still need.

Bruce Springsteen Barely Misses Hitting The Top 10 With A Major Collaboration

Bruce Springsteen and The Killers' Encore at the Garden nearly returns to the U.K. top 10, landing ... More at No. 11 on the Official Vinyl Singles chart this week. MONZA, ITALY - JULY 25: Bruce Springsteen performs with The E Street Band at Autodromo Nazionale Monza on July 25, 2023 in Monza, Italy. (Photo by Sergione Infuso/Corbis via Getty Images) Just a few days ago, Bruce Springsteen surprise-released a new EP titled Land of Hope and Dreams. The six-song set features recordings from the Manchester opening night of the latest leg of his tour with the E Street Band. It arrives just a few weeks before the rocker is set to deliver seven full-lengths at once. Amidst all the excitement surrounding Springsteen's catalog at the moment, the superstar nearly returns to the top 10 on a pair of charts in the U.K. with yet another recently-shared project. Springsteen joined The Killers this past Record Store Day to release a very special short effort, Encore at the Garden. The project was recorded when the rock musician joined the band at a Madison Square Garden concert in October 2022. The vinyl single features just three live tracks: "Badlands," "Dustland," and "Born to Run,' and it becomes a bestseller again in the U.K. this frame. The collaborative project returns to a pair of tallies and nearly climbs into the highest tier on both of them. Encore at the Garden misses the top 10 on the Official Vinyl Singles chart by just one space, landing at No. 11. The same three-song EP, which is credited as a single instead of an album due to its length, reappears at No. 13 on the Official Physical Singles list. The set peaked at No. 3 on both the Official Physical Singles and Official Vinyl Singles charts, debuting in that position in late April. It barely budged in its second frame on the two tallies, dipping just one spot on the physical-only roster and holding steady at No. 3 on the vinyl ranking. Throughout its run, the project has spent just three frames on the Official Vinyl Singles chart and one more on the Official Physical Singles ranking. In just a matter of days, Springsteen might collect a new top-selling album in the U.K. with Land of Hope and Dreams. The EP reached No. 1 on iTunes' Top Albums tally in the country, and though it had only a few days to rack up purchases — since it was released midweek — it may still have managed to perform well enough to appear on a handful of lists. In a little over a month, Springsteen will also release the box set Tracks II: The Lost Albums. The project features seven finished full-lengths that were written and recorded at different points in his career, but never shared with the public.

Billie Eilish Reaches A Chart Milestone For The First Time

Billie Eilish's "Birds of a Feather" celebrates 52 weeks on the Hot 100, becoming her ... More longest-charting hit and first to reach a full year on the tally. NEW YORK, NEW YORK - MAY 15: Billie Eilish performs onstage during "Hit Me Hard And Soft" Album Release Listening Party at Barclays Center on May 15, 2024 in New York City. (Photo byfor ABA) Billie Eilish introduced herself to the masses half a decade ago with "Bad Guy," a unique pop smash unlike anything the world had heard before. That track helped launch her into the stratosphere, which was saying a lot, as she was already one of the hottest new names in the music industry by that point. For years, it stood as her longest-charting single on the Hot 100, but that's no longer the case. "Birds of a Feather" recently overtook it, and this frame marks a special milestone for that cut — one the Grammy and Oscar winner had never achieved before. "Birds of a Feather" reaches 52 weeks on the Hot 100 this frame. As it makes it to that landmark figure, it becomes Eilish's first song to spend an entire year on the highly competitive ranking, which tracks the most consumed tunes throughout the U.S. Amazingly, "Birds of a Feather" isn't just barely managing to find space on the tally, even after that length of time. This time around, it dips just one spot to No. 12, sitting just below the top 10. It was only about a month ago that "Birds of a Feather" passed "Bad Guy" as Eilish's longest-charting success on the Hot 100. "Bad Guy" debuted on the tally in April 2019 and remained there for 49 weeks — just under a full year. Billboard has a rule in place stating that once a song reaches 52 weeks on the Hot 100, it must stay above the No. 25 slot. If it dips below that position, it goes recurrent and is removed from the ranking. While a track can return, it's only under special, and rare, circumstances. Since "Birds of a Feather" is still present at No. 12, there's a good chance it will be able to hold one for a while longer. "Birds of a Feather" also hits the one-year mark on another eight different Billboard charts this week. In addition to the Hot 100, it reaches the major milestone on the Streaming Songs list, the Billboard Global 200, the Billboard Global Excl. U.S., as well as several genre-specific rankings focused on streaming activity, sales, and general consumption. Eilish may be about to collect yet another 52-week winner on the Hot 100. "Wildflower," the current focus from her most recent album Hit Me Hard and Soft, is up to 48 weeks on the chart. It appears at No. 44, but could reasonably hold on for several more frames and join "Birds of a Feather" in just a short span of time.
