Oliver Rowland Extends Formula E Points Lead With Strong Monaco Doubleheader
Oliver Rowland is threatening to make the ABB FIA Formula E season a runaway.
The Nissan Formula E Team driver was strong in the Monaco E-Prix weekend doubleheader on the streets of Monaco this weekend, winning on Saturday and finishing a solid second behind race winner Sebastien Buemi on Sunday.
The 1-2 weekend for Rowland gave him three wins in seven races this season and a commanding lead in the points, as he chases his first Formula E title and the first Formula E title for manufacturer Nissan.
Through seven of 16 scheduled races this season, Rowland has 115 points. Antonio Felix Da Costa is a distant second with 67 points, while defending series champion Pascal Wehrlein is third with 66. A race win is worth 25 points.
On Saturday, Rowland passed pole sitter Taylor Barnard on lap 13, lost the lead briefly to Nyck de Vries, and used his Attack Mode power boost to retake the lead for good on lap 27 on his way to winning by two seconds. De Vries finished second, and Jake Dennis was third after getting hit with a five-second penalty.
Saturday's race was the second to feature Formula E's Pit Boost, where cars pit and received a power-boost charge of their EV batteries before returning to the race.
'You never know what to do with the strategy especially with these Pit Boost races—it's the second race—but we kind of had a plan and we stuck to it," Rowland said. "It was a bit trickier to pass Taylor [Barnard] to be honest, but we kept calm. Even at the end I was pretty worried during that second Attack Mode. I dropped back to fifth and I was behind two Mahindras, and I was like 'right now we need to get cracking', but great job by the team and very well executed."
On Sunday, Rowland started on the pole but finished second to Envision Racing's Buemi, who became a three-time Formula E winner at Monaco. Nick Cassidy of the Jaguar TCS team finished third for his first podium of the season.
Buemi's win wis 14th career triumph in the series and first since 2019 in New York.

Moody's cuts Nissan corporate family rating to Ba2
TOKYO (Reuters) - Global ratings agency Moody's on Friday cut Nissan Motor Co Ltd's corporate family rating to Ba2 from Ba1, as the embattled Japanese automaker seeks to push through a turnaround. The outlook remains negative, Moody's said. "The downgrade reflects the deterioration and expectation for continuing weakness in Nissan's credit profile, most notably in its automotive free cash flow and EBIT margin," Dean Enjo, Moody's ratings vice president and senior analyst, said in a statement. Japan's third-biggest automaker last month unveiled sweeping new cost cuts, saying it would reduce its workforce by around 15% and cut production plants to 10 from 17 globally, as performance in its key markets continues to come under pressure. Nissan (NSANY) CEO Says Deep Cost Cuts Will Revive Struggling Automaker
Nissan (NSANY, Financials) is launching a sweeping restructuring plan to address years of declining sales and chronic overcapacity, according to new CEO Ivan Espinosa. In an interview with CNBC on Wednesday, Espinosa said the company's near-term focus is internal: We are convinced that the plan is enough and robust, he said, pointing to a multi-year effort that includes deep cost reductions and operational resizing. Warning! GuruFocus has detected 6 Warning Signs with NSANY. The plandubbed Re:Nissancalls for the elimination of 20,000 jobs and the closure of seven out of 17 global manufacturing plants by March 2028. Espinosa, who took over in April, warned the problems at the automaker were structural and long-running. This is a problem that did not start two years ago, he said, adding that Nissan's aggressive expansion targets from nearly a decade ago were never met. Nissan had once aimed for 8 million units in annual sales, but peaked at 5.6 million in 2016 and is now tracking around 3.3 million to 3.4 million units per year. Espinosa said the company would reduce both fixed and variable costs to reset its operations. The Japanese automaker also continues to face stiff global competition from Chinese rivals and pressure from a slow transition to electric vehicles. Compounding the challenge are new U.S. tariffs, including a 50% levy on global steel and aluminum, introduced by President Donald Trump and expected to tighten further when a temporary reprieve expires in July. A proposed tie-up with Honda (HMC, Financials) was also scrapped earlier this year, ending hopes of creating what would have been the world's third-largest automaker by volume. Nissan's Tokyo-listed shares have fallen 24% so far in 2025. The company says it is now focused on aligning output with real demand and improving profitability through reduced overhead and better capital discipline. Check insider trades for Nissan. The 15 Compact SUVs With the Most Cargo Room
Cargo Space Seats Up/Down: 11.7-30.8 (33.5 w/ third-row folded)/64.7-79.7 cu ft | MT Score: 7.9/8.7 You've no doubt seen that 11.7-cubic-feet figure for the Mitsubishi Outlander and are wondering what the heck is going on. Well, dear friends, the standard Mitsubishi Outlander has one thing that no other vehicle on this list does: a standard two-person third row for little ones. With that third row in place, the seven-passenger Outlander only has a tiny 11.7 cubic feet of space, while it's plug-in hybrid variant (which uses the third row's space for a battery) has 30.8 cubic feet of space. We obviously didn't want to punish Mitsubishi for offering a feature others don't, and considering those third-row seats will most often be folded flat into the floor, we've placed it in eighth of our list of compact SUVs with the most cargo room due to the generous 33.5 cubic feet available behind the Outlander's second row. Aside from the third row, the Outlander is an interesting vehicle in its segment. Built on the same bones as the Nissan Rogue, it has a few unique features, such as its own engine (a bit underpowered), software suite (it's fine), and stereo ( love! ). Aside from the plenty of thoughtful storage solutions in the Outlanders, we're also quite fond of the Outlander PHEV due to its long electric range (38 miles) and the rare ability at this price point to be DC fast charged.
