Pakistani Celebrities' Social Media Accounts Blocked Again In India After Emergency Review: Sources
After backlash over brief visibility of Pakistani celebrity accounts, the government has reinstated the block on over 18,000 handles across platforms.
News18
Just a day after several Pakistani actors' and cricketers' social media accounts became accessible in India, the government has once again blocked them following an emergency internal review, government sources told News18.
On July 2, Instagram accounts of actors like Mawra Hocane, Saba Qamar, Ahad Raza Mir, Yumna Zaidi, and Danish Taimoor had briefly become visible to Indian users. YouTube channels of cricketers Shahid Afridi and Shoaib Akhtar, along with entertainment platforms like Hum TV, ARY Digital, and Har Pal Geo, were also accessible.
However, by Thursday morning, these accounts were once again geo-restricted. Users searching for them were met with the familiar message: 'Account not available in India. This is because we complied with a legal request to restrict this content."
According to government sources, over 18,000 Pakistani social media handles across platforms have now been blocked in India.

‘Look for somebody with plenty of credit cards': Jailed Philippine leader Duterte's message to his ‘girlfriends'
Rodrigo's 'girlfriends' have become a source of headache for the Duterte family. Many of them have travelled to the Hague over the past weeks to meet the former president but they were not allowed to enter the facility read more Former Philippine president Rodrigo Duterte delivers a speech during the proclamation rally for his political party PDP-Laban's senatorial candidates ahead of the midterm elections, at Club Filipino in San Juan, Metro Manila, Philippines, February 13, 2025. Reuters Former Philippines president Rodrigo Duterte, who is already facing a war crimes trial in the Hague, has a new headache knocking at his door: More than a dozen women who allegedly had relationships with the self-proclaimed 80-year-old womaniser. Rodrigo's son Paolo Duterte on Monday (June 30) visited his father at the ICC and passed on a message from the former president to all the women seeking to meet him in the Hague: 'To all his girlfriends – look for somebody else. Somebody with plenty of credit cards.' STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD It was not clear how many women Rodrigo dated but Paolo claimed to know of at least 13 in the city of Davao alone. His brother and Davao's acting mayor Sebastian meanwhile said there were only four—Duterte's former wife, Elizabeth Zimmerman, his current partner Cielito 'Honeylet' Avancena, Balaba and Egan. 'All of these fine ladies touched the life and heart of my father. No one is above or below the other, including my mother. It is what it is,' wrote Sebastian in a Facebook post. Meanwhile, Duterte's daughter and Vice-President Sara Duterte said in June that her father was 'smart' because 'when he separated from my mother, he didn't marry again … And therefore, now, nobody can claim Rodrigo Duterte because they're just all equally girlfriends.' The women have become a source of headache for the Duterte family. Several of them have travelled to the Hague over the past weeks to meet the former president but they were not allowed to enter the facility. On June 20, Veronica 'Kitty' Duterte, the 20-year-old youngest daughter of Rodrigo Duterte, posted on Instagram, sharply criticising an unnamed individual for attempting to get close to her father. Without disclosing the person's identity or gender, she condemned their 'audacity' for claiming to have performed duties for Duterte, accusing them of posing as his partner to gain access, visit him, and extract information for potentially harmful purposes. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD The post sparked widespread speculation among Duterte's supporters. Online discussions pointed to two individuals: Joyleen 'Girlie' Balaba, a 52-year-old councillor from Cagayan de Oro, and Jasmin 'Jasy' Egan, a former protocol officer at the presidential palace. Both reportedly travelled to The Hague recently. Nuelle Duterte, a psychiatrist and the former president's niece, shared with This Week in Asia that 'Girlie Balaba was an open secret in Davao City, widely known as one of his girlfriends. I saw her once at a local hospital in Davao when I was a medical student, and she was identified as 'Digong's [Rodrigo's] girlfriend'.' Rodrigo Duterte has remained evasive on the issue. When questioned by his son Paolo about Egan, he reportedly dismissed any connection, stating they had no 'relation.' Paolo recounted his father's lighthearted remark: 'They're not cousins, they're not siblings, so there's no relation.' Notably, Duterte was transferred to the Netherlands on March 12 to face charges of crimes against humanity at the International Criminal Court (ICC) related to his role in the deadly 'war on drugs' campaign. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD During his presidency, Duterte publicly urged law enforcement to pursue and eliminate individuals suspected of involvement in the illegal drug trade. The war crimes trial could see him sentenced up to 30 years in jail.

Watch - "I Did It My Way": Vijay Mallya, Lalit Modi Sing At Lavish UK Party
New Delhi: "And now, the end is near, and so I face the final curtain," sang Frank Sinatra. But the curtains can't seem to fall on fugitive billionaires Lalit Modi and Vijay Mallya who were seen singing together at a lavish private party in London over the weekend. A video clip shared by Mr Modi himself showed the two performing Frank Sinatra's "My Way," as guests looked on in an evening that he described as his "annual summer party." The video, now viral, appears to show the former Indian Premier League (IPL) commissioner and the former liquor baron and airline tycoon sharing laughs and songs in a karaoke session hosted at Mr Modi's residence in the British capital. The gathering, which Modi said hosted over 310 friends and family, included guests who had flown in from several countries. Among the attendees was former Royal Challengers Bengaluru cricketer Chris Gayle, who uploaded an Instagram story featuring a photo of himself with both Mr Modi and Mr Mallya. His caption read: "We living it up. Thanks for a lovely evening," tagging both men. "Had an amazing night with 310 friends and family. A lot who travelled specially for this event. Thank you to one and all who attended this evening and made it one of the most special nights for me... Hope this video doesn't break the internet. Controversial for sure. But that's what I do best," Mr Modi wrote on social media. The Instagram post also thanked musician Carlton Braganza for the karaoke setup and paid tribute to Mr Gayle, referring to the cricketer by his popular nickname, "Universe Boss." View this post on Instagram A post shared by Lalit Modi (@lalitkmodi) Charges Against Lalit Modi, Vijay Mallya Mr Modi, the founding chairman of the Indian Premier League, left India in 2010 amid multiple allegations of financial wrongdoing. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has pursued several cases against him, including charges related to money laundering, bid manipulation, and violations under the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA). India has repeatedly sought his extradition from the UK, but he remains a British resident. Mr Modi, now 60, has long maintained that the cases against him are politically motivated. Mr Mallya, 68, the former chairman of United Breweries and promoter of the now-defunct Kingfisher Airlines, left India in 2016 amid mounting debts and allegations of fraud. The Indian government declared him a "fugitive economic offender" under the Fugitive Economic Offenders Act. Last week, the UK's High Court rejected an appeal filed by Mr Mallya against a 2021 bankruptcy order. In a social media post last year, Mr Mallya said that authorities in India had seized and restored assets worth Rs 14,131 crore, an amount he claims exceeds the debts attributed to Kingfisher Airlines. "I am still an economic offender. Unless the ED and banks can legally justify how they have taken more than two times the debt, I am entitled to relief which I will pursue," he wrote on X. He also questioned the CBI's continuing fraud case against him over a Rs 900 crore IDBI Bank loan. In response, Mr Modi had replied, "This too shall pass."
