Time now for What to Watch Tuesday, August 12th. Starting off on the economy, we'll get a key read on inflation Tuesday with the consumer price index. Economists expect headline CPI to ease slightly to .2% for the month, while core CPI, which strips out food and energy, that's expected to tick up to .3%. Those numbers will give the Fed more clues as it maps out its next move on interest rates. And speaking of the Fed, we'll also hear from Richmond Fed President Tom Barkin and Kansas City Fed President Jeffrey Schmidt. This follows President Trump's post on Truth Social last week, announcing his pick of Stephen Moore, and the current Council of Economic Advisors Chairman to fill the seat of Fed Governor Adriana Kugler. And turning to earnings, more results are on deck tomorrow from Circle, Coreweave and Cava. Coreweave will report second quarter results after the closing bell, with analysts expecting solid orders for the cloud computing company, fueled by increased infrastructure spending for major AI players like Microsoft, Google, and OpenAI.

From Laggards to Leaders? Rate Cut Buzz Is Fueling a Small-Cap Stock Comeback

Key Takeaways Small-cap stocks continued to climb on Wednesday, extending the previous session's gains following a better-than-feared consumer price index report. Tuesday's inflation data raised Wall Street's expectations that the Federal Reserve will cut interest rates at its next policy meeting in September, which would be a boon for rate-sensitive small caps. Bank of America analysts expect small caps to benefit long term from modest valuations relative to large caps, light investor positioning, and President Trump's reshoring agenda. Small-cap stocks continued their march higher as investors doubled down on bets that interest rate cuts are imminent. The Russell 2000 (RUT)—the benchmark small-cap equity index—rose 2% on Wednesday, hitting its highest level since December. Small caps built on yesterday's 3% gain, which was fueled by a better-than-feared report on consumer prices. The data showed that Inflation held steady at 2.7% in July, surprising Wall Street, which was braced for tariffs to cause prices to rise faster. Morgan Stanley analysts on Monday predicted that the odds of a rate cut in September—around 90% at the time—would rise if yesterday's report showed few signs that tariffs were materially affecting consumer prices. 'This has the potential to catalyze a more durable rotation to small caps and lower quality stocks,' the firm said. Tuesday's data appears to have convinced investors that the Federal Reserve will look through tariff-driven inflation at its policy meeting next month. As of late Wednesday, traders saw a 96% chance of a quarter percentage point cut in the benchmark interest rate, according to CME Group's FedWatch Tool. 'The prospect of rate cuts bodes well for many of the traditional value sectors and small cap stocks that we have recommended clients should overweight,' said Eric Teal, Chief Investment Officer at Comerica Wealth Management, on Wednesday. 'These areas have lagged the technology and growth sectors and are primed to lead the market higher as breadth expands.' Rate Cuts Could Give Small Caps a Big Boost Small-cap stocks benefit disproportionately from lower interest rates because they are more likely than large companies to rely on credit to fund growth, and are more likely to have floating-rate loans. They also tend to operate more domestic businesses, and thus benefit more than multinationals from the stimulative effects—boosted consumer and business spending—of lower rates. A rate cut next month would come at an opportune time for small-cap investors. Small caps grew earnings for the first time in more than a year last quarter, and are expected to outpace mid and large caps throughout the second half, according to Bank of America. Granted, relative to large caps, small caps underperformed last quarter in sales growth, and executives were notably more downbeat on earnings calls, says BofA. And microcaps—the smallest quintile of small caps—are trading at historically rich valuations after rebounding from early April's "Liberation Day" rout. But analysts see plenty of reason to be bullish on small caps in the long term, including 'extreme relative cheapness,' light investor positioning, and domestic reshoring efforts. The company reaffirmed its full-year revenue target of at least $25 million for 2025, with more than $20 million expected from its OAS business unit. Ondas Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:ONDS) has a strong balance sheet with $68.6 million in cash and no holding company debt, providing financial flexibility for growth. The company has secured over $39 million in orders in the last 12 months, with a backlog growing to $22 million at the end of Q2 2025. Ondas Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:ONDS) is expanding its footprint in defense and homeland security markets, with significant orders from Europe, Asia, and the United States. Negative Points Operating expenses increased to $12.6 million in Q2 2025, up from $8.1 million in Q2 2024, primarily due to higher human resource costs. The company reported an operating loss of $9.2 million in Q2 2025, compared to $8.3 million in Q2 2024. Ondas Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:ONDS) is still in the early stages of platform adoption, with revenues not yet covering operating expenses. Gross margins can be volatile due to early stages of platform adoption and shifts in revenue mix. The company faces uncertainty around the timing of customer activity, which could affect revenue fluctuations from quarter to quarter. Q & A Highlights Warning! GuruFocus has detected 6 Warning Signs with ONDS. Q: Can you provide more details on the $23 million plus of bookings and the source of this confidence? A: Eric Brock, Chairman and CEO, explained that the bookings are driven by a combination of new customer acquisitions and the expansion of existing programs. The company is capturing new customers with proof-of-concept orders and aims to expand these into larger infrastructure build-outs. The pipeline includes potential orders in the tens of millions of dollars, suggesting that the guidance might be conservative. Q: Are the two control acquisitions in addition to the recent small acquisition, and will they contribute to revenue? A: Eric Brock confirmed that the two control acquisitions are in addition to the recent transactions with Zickle and Rift. These acquisitions are expected to be revenue-generating and will contribute to the company's growth. Q: Is the current gross margin a good reflection of the OAS business at scale? A: Eric Brock stated that while the current gross margin is a good target, there is potential for improvement through increased volume and design for manufacturing. However, he cautioned that margins might be volatile until the business reaches scale. Q: How do the two acquisitions tie in with the 2026 revenue target, and were they included in the original forecast? A: Eric Brock clarified that the 2026 revenue target of $40 million for OAS was entirely organic. The acquisitions will be accretive to both the 2025 and 2026 outlooks. Q: Can you provide more details on the Kestrel win with the Urban Public Safety Agency? A: Eric Brock explained that the Kestrel system is an airspace awareness tool, primarily bundled with the Optimus infrastructure. The demand for counter-UAS technologies is growing, and the Kestrel system is part of the initial detection layer. The company sees potential for further engagement with this customer. Computershare Ltd (CMSQF) (FY 2025) Earnings Call Highlights: Strong EPS Growth Amidst Market ...

Release Date: August 12, 2025 For the complete transcript of the earnings call, please refer to the full earnings call transcript. Positive Points Computershare Ltd (CMSQF) reported a 15% increase in management EPS to $1.35 per share, consistent with upgraded guidance. The company achieved a 4.4% increase in management revenue, driven by a 4.3% growth in core fees and a 13.6% rise in transactional and event revenue. Corporate trust revenues increased by over 4%, with EBIT up 7.3% and margins expanding by 140 basis points to almost 53%. Employee share plans delivered impressive results with 9% growth in revenues, 15% growth in EBIT, and 25% growth in EBIT XMI. The company completed a $750 million share buyback, increasing total returns to shareholders by 17% to $613 million. Negative Points Margin income decreased by 2.8% due to lower interest rates, and is expected to decline by another 5% in FY26. Corporate action volumes were down 2% for the year, impacting revenue despite higher average fees per deal. The UK mortgage servicing business is experiencing a decline in revenues and loan values, with the company looking to exit this market. The non-exposed book yield is expected to decrease to 76 basis points in FY26, down from 101 basis points in FY25. The company anticipates a step-up in costs to implement additional cost savings, with restructuring programs expected to continue until FY27. Q & A Highlights Warning! GuruFocus has detected 3 Warning Sign with INDHF. Q: Can you provide insights into the revenue outlook for the registry and employee share plans segments, given the decline in shareholder accounts and the high base of trading revenue in FY25? A: (Unidentified_1) For employee share plans, the value of assets under administration and replenishment in key markets is crucial. Despite a reduction in units, core markets like North America and Australia saw growth. The value of vested shares available for trading increased by 19% year-on-year, indicating positive momentum. For issuer services, despite a lack of IPOs, core registry fees increased, and transactional elements were up. The business is performing well, with significant cross-border transactions and growth in governance services. Q: Why is there a significant increase in costs for implementing additional cost savings next year, and what are these costs related to? A: (Unidentified_2) The increase in costs is to finalize existing programs and reflect the expenses needed to close them. These costs include third-party developer fees, IT team expenses for new platforms, and severance costs related to workforce reductions. The programs are interconnected, with investments in new technology facilitating workforce reductions. Q: How should we think about your net debt leverage as you exit FY26, and how does it compare to your long-term plan? A: (Unidentified_2) We expect net debt at the end of FY26 to be about 0.25 times Management EBITDA, subject to M&A and dividends. Moving into FY27, we anticipate being net cash, again subject to those factors. Q: Can you provide more detail on the expected recovery in issuance volumes for FY26? A: (Unidentified_1) Issuance recovery is linked to market stability, which allows clients to price deals correctly. We expect debt issuance to gradually return to normal levels, around 5% growth. While not all will come through in FY26, we are optimistic about the structured products and document custody fees, with corporate trust expected to be the fastest-growing business. Q: What are your goals for the UK mortgage servicing business, given the decline in revenues and loan values? A: (Unidentified_1) The UK mortgage business primarily consists of closed books, leading to natural runoff. We are actively looking to exit this market, similar to our exit from the US mortgage space, although it has been challenging due to market changes.
