Russell Crowe to Star in Cold War Thriller "Billion Dollar Spy"
Walden Media and Akiva Goldsman's Weed Road Pictures are making the Cold War thriller "Billion Dollar Spy", with Oscar winner Russell Crowe and Industry's Harry Lawtey attached to star.
Oscar-winning writer Stephen Gaghan (Traffic, Syriana) wrote the most recent draft, revising a script penned by Ben August.
The screenplay is adapted from the bestselling book by David E. Hoffman.
BAFTA Award winner Amma Asante (Belle, A Way of Life, A United Kingdom) will direct. The project is in pre-production.
Set against the high-stakes backdrop of the late Cold War, "Billion Dollar Spy" follows Adolf Tolkachev (Crowe), an ordinary man who risks everything to pass thousands of pages of top-secret Soviet intelligence to the U.S. Despite repeated rejections by a wary CIA, Tolkachev persisted, embodying the courage to stand against a regime that betrayed its own people. Finally finding an ally in CIA agent Tom Lenihan (Lawtey), Tolkachev was able to fundamentally shift the balance of power, proving that true patriotism lies not in blind allegiance but in the willingness to challenge a government when it strays from its ideals. In an era when resistance and bravery are more relevant than ever, his story resonates deeply.
Frank Smith, Benjamin Tappan and Cher Hawrysh of Walden Media are producing alongside Goldsman and Greg Lessans of Weed Road. Jane Hooks will serve as an EP. Pioneer Stillking Films' Ildiko Kemeny, David Minkowski and Ferenc Szále will serve as co-producers. Hanway Films is handling international sales.

Russell Crowe, Shailene Woodley, Annabelle Walli, Jacob Tremblay to Star in Ted Kaczynski Thriller "Unabom"
Yara Sameh Russell Crowe, Shailene Woodley, Annabelle Wallis, and Jacob Tremblay have signed on to star in "Unabom", a new thriller on terrorist Ted Kaczynski to be directed for Netflix and MRC by Janus Metz. Inspired by true events, "Unabom" originated as a spec from Sam Chalsen and Nelson Greaves, the writers behind Radio Silence's forthcoming Art Bell project, who have developed the film alongside 2.0 Entertainment since its inception. The film follows Kaczynski's (Tremblay) transformation from Harvard prodigy into the infamous Unabomber, who carried out a nationwide bombing campaign in the U.S. from 1978-95, killing three people and injuring 23. Subjected to controversial psychological experiments by Professor Henry Murray (Crowe), Kaczynski's troubled past resurfaces decades later when his manhunt, led by FBI agent Joanne Miller (Woodley), brings to light the chilling consequences of ambition and isolation. Sophie Cassidy will produce for 2.0 Entertainment, in association with MRC. Don Lee, Chalsen, and Greaves will exec produce. Recently wrapping Walden Media's Cold War thriller "Billion Dollar Spy" and the action thriller "Bear Country", directed by Derrick Borte, Gladiator Oscar winner Crowe will next be seen starring in Walden's "Nuremberg" along with Rami Malek and Michael Shannon. Known for turns in films including "Room, Wonder", "Good Boys" and "Doctor Sleep", Tremblay next will be seen starring in Neon's Stephen King adaptation "The Life of Chuck" from filmmaker Mike Flanagan, which opens Friday in select theaters. He'll also be seen starring opposite Nick Offerman in the crime drama "Sovereign". Most recently starring in such films as "Ferrari" and "Dumb Money", as well as Starz's "Three Women", Woodley's upcoming slate includes Potsy Ponciroli's "Motor City" and the second season of Hulu's "Paradise", among other projects. Wallis has starred on shows like "Star Trek: Discovery" and "Peaky Blinders", also appearing in films like "Silent Night", "Malignant", multiple entries in the Annabelle horror franchise spinning off The Conjuring, and more. Other upcoming projects include Amazon MGM's sci-fi thriller "Mercy" opposite Chris Pratt, and Lionsgate/Sky's action thriller "Mutiny" opposite Jason Statham. read more New Tourism Route To Launch in Old Cairo Ahmed El Sakka-Led Play 'Sayidati Al Jamila' to Be Staged in KSA on Dec. 6 Mandy Moore Joins Season 2 of "Dr. Death" Anthology Series Don't Miss These Movies at 44th Cairo Int'l Film Festival Today Amr Diab to Headline KSA's MDLBEAST Soundstorm 2022 Festival Arts & Culture Mai Omar Stuns in Latest Instagram Photos Arts & Culture "The Flash" to End with Season 9 Arts & Culture Ministry of Culture Organizes four day Children's Film Festival Arts & Culture Canadian PM wishes Muslims Eid-al-Adha News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier Sports Former Al Zamalek Player Ibrahim Shika Passes away after Long Battle with Cancer Sports Neymar Announced for Brazil's Preliminary List for 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers News Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly Inaugurates Two Indian Companies Arts & Culture New Archaeological Discovery from 26th Dynasty Uncovered in Karnak Temple Business Fear & Greed Index Plummets to Lowest Level Ever Recorded amid Global Trade War Arts & Culture Zahi Hawass: Claims of Columns Beneath the Pyramid of Khafre Are Lies News Flights suspended at Port Sudan Airport after Drone Attacks News Shell Unveils Cost-Cutting, LNG Growth Plan Videos & Features Video: Trending Lifestyle TikToker Valeria Márquez Shot Dead during Live Stream

Cillian Murphy's Role in "28 Years Later" Franchise Has Been Clarified
Yara Sameh Cillian Murphy is coming back to the '28 Days Later' franchise — but fans will have to wait patiently. Director Danny Boyle revealed in interviews with Business Insider and IGN that Murphy, who starred in the original '28 Days Later' in 2002, will not star in the upcoming '28 Years Later," but will appear in the ending of its 2026 sequel, 'The Bone Temple.' 'He is in the second one,' Boyle told IGN . 'I shouldn't give away too much. I'll get killed.' Boyle and writer Alex Garland conceived '28 Years Later' as the start of a new trilogy. The franchise revival, which stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Jodie Comer and Ralph Fiennes, was filmed back-to-back with its follow-up, '28 Years Later: The Bone Temple,' which is directed by Nia DaCosta. A trilogy-capper remains in development and could be greenlit if '28 Years Later' becomes a box office hit. Boyle hopes that incorporating Murphy, who is coming off of a best actor Oscar win for 'Oppenheimer,' could also help secure financing for the third film. 'All I can say is you have to wait for Cillian, but hopefully he will help us get the third film financed,' Boyle told Business Insider. To IGN, 'Although each story [in the trilogy] completes itself, there's a handover section to the next film as well. So it's very ambitious. We haven't got the money for the third one yet. It will depend how the first one does, I guess. But hopefully, if we do okay, they'll give us the go-ahead for the money and for the third one. Everybody's standing by for that, really. Including Cillian.' Boyle also shared with Business Insider that getting Murphy on board for the trilogy helped him get approval to film '28 Years Later' with iPhones: 'You promise them Cillian Murphy, that's quite a deflection of any technical concerns. They soon forget. We nakedly used that to get our own way. What better promise could you make?'. Boyle's original '28 Days Later' was one of the first blockbuster roles for Murphy. He led the thriller as Jim, a man who awakens in a hospital to discover the United Kingdom has collapsed amid an undead apocalypse. Fans have speculated that Murphy could return to the franchise, with some even believing that a zombie in the first trailer for '28 Years Later' was played by the actor. It's actually an art dealer and acting newcomer, Angus Neill. '28 Years Later' releases to theaters June 20 from Sony Pictures. The sequel, '28 Years Later: The Bone Temple,' is slated for January 16, 2026. read more New Tourism Route To Launch in Old Cairo Ahmed El Sakka-Led Play 'Sayidati Al Jamila' to Be Staged in KSA on Dec. 6 Mandy Moore Joins Season 2 of "Dr. Death" Anthology Series Don't Miss These Movies at 44th Cairo Int'l Film Festival Today Amr Diab to Headline KSA's MDLBEAST Soundstorm 2022 Festival Arts & Culture Mai Omar Stuns in Latest Instagram Photos Arts & Culture "The Flash" to End with Season 9 Arts & Culture Ministry of Culture Organizes four day Children's Film Festival Arts & Culture Canadian PM wishes Muslims Eid-al-Adha News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier News Australia Fines Telegram $600,000 Over Terrorism, Child Abuse Content Sports Former Al Zamalek Player Ibrahim Shika Passes away after Long Battle with Cancer Sports Neymar Announced for Brazil's Preliminary List for 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers News Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly Inaugurates Two Indian Companies Arts & Culture New Archaeological Discovery from 26th Dynasty Uncovered in Karnak Temple Business Fear & Greed Index Plummets to Lowest Level Ever Recorded amid Global Trade War Arts & Culture Zahi Hawass: Claims of Columns Beneath the Pyramid of Khafre Are Lies News Flights suspended at Port Sudan Airport after Drone Attacks News Shell Unveils Cost-Cutting, LNG Growth Plan
