Six of Sydney's favourite personalities have shared their secret spots for a perfect day
When a friend visits Sydney from out of town, chances are you don't rush to tell them about how good it is to get a picture in front of the ferries at Circular Quay, or splash in the waves at Bondi Beach. Sydney's icons are famous enough – and it's our hidden gems, the places that Sydneysiders carve out time for outside of our own 9-5, that are really worth recommending. With that in mind, we got top picks from some of Sydney's favourite people. First up: the man behind Sydney's fastest mullet. Electrician turned ultramarathon runner Nedd Brockmann, who's lived in Randwick for the past four years, has shared his top spots to run, recover and refuel in the Harbour City. FYI, over at you can now book a place on a Brockmann-approved running tour around the CBD, then schedule a recovery session at Surry Hills bathhouse Capybara before booking in for dinner at one of the athlete's favourite restaurants in the city, Luke Mangan's Luc San in Potts Point. Minister for Tourism Steve Kamper says he agrees Sydney needs to do a better job of highlighting its many hidden gems, quoting Time Out's recent global round-up, which saw Sydney rank as the fifth-best city in the world for culture: 'Sydney was just ranked as one of Time Out's top five global cities for culture, but when you ask Australians about Sydney they'll say 'I've already seen the Harbour Bridge'. What is clear in the research is that our icons alone are not enough to get people to visit and revisit Sydney. We need to do a better job at showcasing all our city has to offer, we need to be more than our icons.' John questioned by police on Nate's murder in Emmerdale
In the wake of the discovery of Nate Robinson's (Jurell Carter) untimely Emmerdale death, accusations are flying, but it's John Sugden (Oliver Farnworth) who is sweating. Murderous John seemed to be high and dry after the dredging of the lake was called off, and with Aidan slipping back into his coma – the other person who could blow his cover – he smugly returned to the village to resume the new life he'd created for himself. But reality came back to bite him on the bum when they dredged the lake anyway and Nate's body was finally found. It's badly decomposed so it'll be harder for the police to gather much if any DNA, but there will be a thorough investigation regardless and John is not in the clear. Then his worst living nightmare comes true – the police show up to question him about the day Nate disappeared. Having got away with things for this long he plays it cool. But as it turns out, it's not him they're after – it's Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley). Now this does not a happy Cain make, and though the finger isn't pointing at John, John still needs to work hard to protect Cain from going down for a crime he didn't commit – especially in the wake of Tracy Shankley's (Amy Walsh) accusation towards him. Tracy later walks passed and Sam Dingle (James Hooton) can't resist giving her what for. Cain is left shaken and puts voice to a dark thought that he believes Tracy did away with her ex. Finger firmly pointed, Tracy feebly tries to defend herself, but John concocts a dreadful plan to take the heat off Cain. The police soon arrive at Tug Ghyll with a search warrant and make a massive discovery – Nate's phone in Frankie's playhouse. Now the fear sets in for Tracy as she realises how bad things are starting to look – just wait until they find out she's been using his credit card too. But before they even get that far, they learn there is no record of the removal men who came to collect Nate's stuff – the ones that Tracy was the only one to interact with. Located just 25 minutes outside of Glasgow, this fun-filled attraction has earned a spot on Time Out's list of the UK's top pools. Advertisement 1 The Time Capsule has been named Scotland's best waterpark Credit: Google The Time Capsule in Coatbridge, North Lanarkshire, was named as the country's best waterpark. It boasts a 25m swimming pool, a Tsunami wavepool, and a Riptide River. And the leisure complex includes a fully equipped gym, an ice rink and a soft play area. Time Out said: "Glasgow might not be the first location that springs to mind when you think of waterparks, but at the Time Capsule, they have some unique rides. Advertisement "The Tornado Tantrum flue is so large you could fit a Mini Cooper inside, so there's plenty of room for you and four mates to whizz down together. "There's also a ten-metre-high Storm Chaser: twin flumes named Thunder and Lightning, where you can challenge a friend and see who comes out first." The Time Capsule is currently undergoing essential upgrades to its water feature systems, which include new control panels, electrical repairs and pump replacements. The upgrades began in March and are expected to take up to six months, meaning the waterpark is likely to be closed for most of the summer. Councillor Geraldine Woods, North Lanarkshire Council Convener of Communities, said: 'We know our loyal customers will be disappointed to hear that the waterpark will close for a few months, but the upgrades will guarantee its long-term future. UK's biggest outdoor waterpark reveals brand new 'island' attraction open this summer 'We carried out a detailed survey of the waterpark, which highlighted certain areas requiring improvement. In order to complete these, the waterpark will need to close for between four and six months.'
