John questioned by police on Nate's murder in Emmerdale
In the wake of the discovery of Nate Robinson's (Jurell Carter) untimely Emmerdale death, accusations are flying, but it's John Sugden (Oliver Farnworth) who is sweating.
Murderous John seemed to be high and dry after the dredging of the lake was called off, and with Aidan slipping back into his coma – the other person who could blow his cover – he smugly returned to the village to resume the new life he'd created for himself.
But reality came back to bite him on the bum when they dredged the lake anyway and Nate's body was finally found. It's badly decomposed so it'll be harder for the police to gather much if any DNA, but there will be a thorough investigation regardless and John is not in the clear.
Then his worst living nightmare comes true – the police show up to question him about the day Nate disappeared. Having got away with things for this long he plays it cool. But as it turns out, it's not him they're after – it's Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley).
Now this does not a happy Cain make, and though the finger isn't pointing at John, John still needs to work hard to protect Cain from going down for a crime he didn't commit – especially in the wake of Tracy Shankley's (Amy Walsh) accusation towards him.
Tracy later walks passed and Sam Dingle (James Hooton) can't resist giving her what for. Cain is left shaken and puts voice to a dark thought that he believes Tracy did away with her ex. Finger firmly pointed, Tracy feebly tries to defend herself, but John concocts a dreadful plan to take the heat off Cain.
The police soon arrive at Tug Ghyll with a search warrant and make a massive discovery – Nate's phone in Frankie's playhouse. Now the fear sets in for Tracy as she realises how bad things are starting to look – just wait until they find out she's been using his credit card too.
But before they even get that far, they learn there is no record of the removal men who came to collect Nate's stuff – the ones that Tracy was the only one to interact with.

Former BBC studios where EastEnders was filmed riddled with asbestos
A crumbling production complex where EastEnders and other iconic BBC TV shows have been filmed has been found to be riddled with asbestos. A pre-demolition survey of BBC Elstree Centre — sold to investment giant AXA IM Alts — shows that the substance is present across the buildings. Asbestos material was found in studios, a restaurant, the Central Technical Area, Hart House, the historic Fairbanks, a maintenance building and Neptune House, where Holby City was filmed. The new owners commissioned the survey as they turn the world-famous site in Borehamwood, north west London, into a film-making complex meeting modern standards. At the Art Deco-style studios where EastEnders, Children in Need and the BBC's General Election coverage have been filmed, the material was found in more than 150 different places. One sample was taken from insulation within a wall void and given a high priority classification. The inspectors found that the material was likely to be 'easily disturbed' and flagged it as 'remove.' Another sample taken from a restaurant block was classed as 'high priority'. However the material, used for thermal insulation, was judged 'usually inaccessible or unlikely to be disturbed.' Another sample was taken from stairs on the ground floor of studios M and C, according to the document released this week. The presence of the material was judged 'low risk' but Asbestos Consultants Europe Ltd recommended it be removed. AXA IM Alts said in January 2024 that it had exchanged contracts with the BBC for the 16-acre campus, with the deal due to be completed early this year. EastEnders will remain in an already modernised part of the site under a deal between the old and new owners to lease back part of the studio campus over the next 25 years. The buyers, who are working with Oxygen Studios on the plans, intend to create a major new film and TV production complex with modern day requirements able to attract large-scale productions. The new development has been named Fairbanks Studios in tribute to actor Douglas Fairbanks, who leased studios on the site in 1952. The report was carried out to protect workers and others from 'asbestos containing materials' which might be unknowingly disturbed during demolition work. A spokesperson for AXA IM Alts said: 'We are fully aware of the presence of asbestos on the site which is common in old buildings and those that have been added to during their lifespan. More Trending 'These buildings are not currently in use and have not been occupied since we acquired them. 'Our development plans to transform the site into a fit for purpose, modern media campus already account for the safe removal of any asbestos using experts in this field and according to current regulations.' EASTENDERS fans were left distracted by a hilarious detail in the background of the action - did you spot it? Eagle-eyed fans usually spot slightly more subtle details in the BBC soap. 4 4 4 Taking to Reddit, a fan shared a screenshot they took of the BBC soap's local paper, Walford Gazette. On display in the background of a scene, the headline read: "Chicken Yoga Takes City By Storm". The viewer penned: "I love finding these 'made up headlines'. No spoiler. "I couldn't help but notice the headline on Walford Gazette probably says "Chicken Yoga Takes City By Storm." "Seriously, Chickens do Yogas?", adding a laughing face emoji. It's not the first time EastEnders fans have noticed funny details. Fans highlighted a gaffe in a recent scene featuring Kathy Beale. After he confesses his love for her, she then moves down to Brighton with him. After several guest returns, she made a full-time comeback in 2018 alongside Kat (Jessie Wallace) and Mo (Laila Morse). She was later put at the centre of a major storyline when she was diagnosed with Ovarian cancer. Having got through the door pushing the empty pram, a close-up shot then zoomed in to reveal Charli sat in the pram. One fan raged at show bosses: " EastEnders are really getting lazy when it comes to checking their scenes before adding them into the episode cause tell me why Jean's pushing an empty f***ing pushchair then suddenly a childs in it."
