Liverpool rejects Barcelona approach for Luis Diaz, AP source says
Liverpool has rejected an approach from Barcelona for forward Luis Diaz, a person with knowledge of the situation told the Associated Press.
The person spoke on the condition of anonymity because the information has not been made public.
Spanish champion Barcelona is looking to strengthen, and Diaz and Manchester United's Marcus Rashford were on a list of reported targets.
It is not known how much Barcelona was prepared to pay for Colombia international Diaz, but Liverpool informed the Catalan club he was not for sale, the person said.
The 28-year-old Diaz scored 17 goals in Liverpool's Premier League title-winning campaign last season.
He scored a hat trick against Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League and was a key figure in attack for manager Arne Slot.
Liverpool is also looking to make additions during the offseason, with Germany midfielder Florian Wirtz a reported target. But the Merseyside club sees Diaz as an important part of its plans to retain the Premier League title next year and make a push in the Champions League.

Diaz joined Liverpool from Porto in 2022 for a deal worth around 37.5 million pounds ($51 million). In that time he was won the league, FA Cup and two English League Cups, scoring 41 goals in 148 games.

Haaland scores again as Norway crushes Italy in World Cup qualifier and Croatia cruises
Erling Haaland scored and Norway humbled Italy 3-0 for the first time in 25 years in qualifying for the 2026 World Cup on Friday. Haaland collected a through ball from playmaker Martin Odegaard and rounded goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma in the box for the third goal three minutes before halftime. It was his 41st goal in his 42nd match for Norway to the delight of the spectators at Ullevaal Stadium in Oslo, including King Harald V of Norway. Haaland also scored when Moldova was beaten 5-0 and Israel 4-2. Norway remained perfect in qualifying after three games in Europe Group I. Striker Alexander Sorloth received a precise pass from Antonio Nusa then beat Donnarumma with a left foot shot. Nusa, the 20-year-old attacking midfielder, was a constant threat to the Italian defense. He left behind two defenders and doubled the advantage with a rising shot from inside the area. Rockies bring up prospect Ryan Ritter, place shortstop Ezequiel Tovar on injured reserve
DENVER (AP) — The Colorado Rockies are bringing up prospect Ryan Ritter to fill in for injured shortstop Ezequiel Tovar. Ritter had his contract selected from Triple-A Albuquerque on Friday before Colorado began a three-game series with the NL East-leading New York Mets. Tovar was placed on the 10-day injured list — retroactive to Tuesday — with a strained left oblique. It was part of a series of moves made by the last-place Rockies. They also released catcher Jacob Stallings and recalled catcher Braxton Fulford from Triple-A. Reliever Zach Agnos was reinstated from the bereavement list. The 24-year-old Ritter was picked by Colorado in the fourth round of the 2022 amateur draft out of the University of Kentucky. He's hit .284 with 48 homers, 166 RBIs and 42 stolen bases over parts of four minor-league seasons. Ritter was recently named the Pacific Coast League player of the month after hitting .381 for the Isotopes with 12 homers and 31 RBIs.
