‘I was extremely bitter about dad Raj Babbar, mom Smita Patil,' Prateik recalls growing up with ‘shame': ‘Na main maa ka, na baap ka'

Prateik Smita Patil has been making headlines lately, after he broke ties with his father Raj Babbar and didn't invite him to his wedding. The actor, who adopted his mother and late actor Smita Patil's name, has now opened up about his complicated relationship with his parents and building his own identity amidst the difficult family situation. He also recalled his drug addiction phase and how people treated him because of the same.
In an interview with Zoom, Prateik shared the challenges he had to face while growing up and said, 'The nature of the situation was a little more intense because my parents were famous people. My mother is still a legend, very much celebrated. So it was different as my life was an open book since childhood, so that was the constant reminder. And seeing them not around kind of made me bitter about them both — extremely bitter.'
'So that was the tug of war — whether to accept them or not, whose fault is it? Then finally I'm at peace with everything. I mean, you still have to heal because these kinds of situations, these kinds of circumstances, are tough to overcome completely. You go through healing your entire life,' he added.

During the candid conversation, Prateik Smita Patil also revealed the emotional reason behind adopting his mother's surname, 'I didn't know whose identity I wanted. 'Na main baap ka hoon na maa ka, main khud ka hu,' this confusion I had all my life. But now, finally, I've embraced my mother's name fully. I'm now called Prateik Smita Patil, and it's got a very beautiful ring to it. It sounds like music to my ears. I owed it to her to embrace her wholly and solely. She gave her life for me — she deserves it. A mother gave her life for her child, the least I could do is embrace her entire name,' he shared.
During the same interview, Prateik also opened up about his drug addiction back in 2013. He said, 'Drug addiction is a disease. We have to talk about it and get help. Mental health is a real thing.'
The Sikandar actor further explained how he was embarrassed and felt shameful during childhood, because of his family and substance abuse. 'Shame is something that I felt during my childhood days. I was ashamed of my family situation. I was ashamed of not having parents. Har jagah jaata tha toh sabke parents aate the, but mere saath mere grandparents aate the. Kabhi kabhi maid aur nanny bhi aa jaati thi. Mujhe bahut sharam aati thi,' he revealed.
Prateik continued, 'Embarrassment is not a nice feeling. I am proud of myself, as I have gone through all these adversities at a very young age. I had overdosed a few times, but my guardian angel was protecting me. I am proud of myself. It was tough. You get boycotted and labelled. You also get outcast.'
On the professional front, Prateik Smita Patil was last seen in Telugu crime thriller, HIT: The Third Case. It hit the theatres on May 1.

War 2 (Hindi) Day 2 Box Office: Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR starrer shows reasonable 60 percent growth on Independence holiday; Adds Rs 45 crore

War 2, directed by Ayan Mukerji, and starring Hrithik Roshan, Jr NTR and Kiara Advani among others, grew by a reasonable 60 percent on day 2 in Hindi, to add Rs 45 crore net. The two day cume of the movie in Hindi stands at Rs 73 crore, keeping it on track for a Rs 130 crore net weekend. These aren't good numbers but they are decent nonetheless. The trend in the weekdays will be critical for the movie to end with net Hindi collections of over Rs 200 crore. War 2 Adds Decent Rs 45 Crore Net On Independence Day Holiday In Hindi The true value Hindi day 2 of War 2 is around Rs 48 crore net. Due to preference of the Telugu version of the movie over the Hindi version, the collections in the Andhra states for the Hindi version are lower than what they would normally be. War 2's contribution from the Telugu version for the opening day was roughly Rs 20 crore net. The presence of Jr NTR propelled the movie to these numbers. The collections from the dubbed version have come down considerably on day 2 and that was pretty much expected, too. They are pegged at around Rs 10 crore net. The two day India net all language total is a little over Rs 100 crore. War 2's Andhra States Distributor Stands To Lose Big There should be some stability at low levels for the movie on Saturday and Sunday in Telugu. However, for the prices at which the rights of the movie in the Andhra states (all languages) were acquired for, the numbers being put up by the movie are simply not going to be enough. Renegotiations will have to happen, else the distributor will lose a fortune. War 2's Trajectory Indicates A Rs 250 - 300 Crore Net Finish (All Languages) The India net numbers of War 2 are likely to end in the Rs 250 - 300 crore net range unless the weekday drops are too crazy. The overseas numbers are not much to shout about either. A USD 7.5 million extended global weekend, including premieres is probably all that the movie will be able to manage. The hold over the weekdays will be critical if it really needs to hit USD 15 million in its full run. War 2 In Theatres War 2 plays in theatres now. Tickets for the movie can be booked from the box office or from online ticketing applications. Stay tuned to Pinkvilla for more updates.

Coolie Box Office Collection Day 2: Biggest opener of 2025, Rajinikanth's movie crosses ₹100 crore milestone

Coolie Box Office Collection Day 2: Coolie, which is already leading all 2025 releases in India to be the biggest opener of the year, has now crossed the ₹ 100 crore milestone at the Indian box office. Released on Thursday, August 14, superstar Rajinikanth's movie is setting the bar for domestic box office performance this year. Coolie has been released in five languages: Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Malayalam, and Kannada, boosting its pan-India appeal. According to industry tracker Sacnilk, Coolie, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, has already surpassed the ₹ 100 crore milestone in just two days. On Friday, August 15, the Rajinikanth movie minted ₹ 40.57 crore. With this, the record-breaking, Coolie's 2-day total stands at ₹ 105.57 crore. Sacnilk said ticket prices surged dramatically, reaching as high as ₹ 4,500 in Chennai. Both the superstar actor and the hit filmmaker achieved their personal career-best opening day with Coolie ( ₹ 65 crore), surpassing all previous films in their respective records. Coolie became the first Tamil movie to cross the 150 crores worldwide mark on its opening day, cementing its place in cinematic history, said Sacnilk. Minting ₹ 153 crore globally, Coolie is the biggest Indian opener of 2025 at the worldwide box office. Singapore even granted paid leave for fans wanting to watch Coolie on opening day. Trade analysts estimate it needs around ₹ 600 crore worldwide to be considered a hit. Coolie is directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj. It is backed by Kalanithi Maran's Sun Pictures. In addition to Rajinikanth in the lead, the film also stars Nagarjuna, Upendra, Soubin Shahir, Sathyaraj, Shruti Haasan, Reba Monica John, Junior MGR, and Monisha Blessy. Bollywood actor Aamir Khan is also a part of the film in a cameo role as Daaha. Anirudh R scored the music and the songs of Coolie. The film has received mixed reactions from netizens so far. At the box office, it is clashing with Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR's War 2. Coolie was released as Rajinikanth celebrated 50 years in cinema. The censor board gave the movie an A (Adults-only) certificate. This is Rajinikanth's first A-rated film in many years.

War 2 Worldwide Box Office Day 2: Jr NTR's Hindi debut falls short of expectations, mints THIS amount

'War 2', the highly anticipated sequel starring Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR, has made waves at the global box office, collecting a total gross of ₹ 79.95 crore worldwide by its second day. The action-packed espionage thriller, part of Yash Raj Films' expanding Spy Universe, has now officially become the biggest worldwide opening of Hrithik Roshan's career. On its opening day, August 14, 'War 2' earned a domestic net of ₹ 52.5 crore. However, this figure amounts to only 16% of the film's reported production budget of ₹ 325 crore. Trade analysts note that for the film to be declared a 'hit', it must achieve a minimum of ₹ 650 crore in net domestic earnings — setting a high bar in an increasingly competitive box office landscape. Overseas, the film has shown moderate traction, with an estimated opening day collection of just over $3 million (approximately ₹ 25 crore). This brings the tentative worldwide opening day total to around ₹ 90–95 crore, although final overseas figures are still pending. The film had been expected to post stronger initial figures, particularly given the addition of Telugu superstar Jr NTR to the cast — a move aimed at expanding the franchise's reach in South Indian markets. Despite this, the early performance in the Telugu states has been described by analysts as 'somewhat subpar', with the regional contribution reportedly in the mid- ₹ 60 crore range. Still, 'War 2' has surpassed the opening of its predecessor, 'War' (2019), which grossed ₹ 77.95 crore worldwide on day one, including ₹ 15 crore from overseas markets. With a high-stakes budget and considerable star power, all eyes are now on War 2's weekend performance to determine whether it can build on this early momentum or face an uphill battle at the box office.
