Srisailam temple witnesses heavy weekend rush
Temple authorities said that over two lakh devotees had darshan of Sri Mallikarjuna Swamy and Ammavaru in the past 48 hours, with the figure expected to reach three lakh by Monday. On Sunday, streets, queue lines, and the premises of Sri Bramarambha Mallikarjuna Swamy temple were packed with pilgrims from across Andhra Pradesh and neighbouring states. General darshan took around five to six hours, while special darshan took three to four hours. Several VIPs and their families also offered prayers. Executive Officer (EO) M Srinivasa Rao said elaborate arrangements were in place to provide accommodation, drinking water, and free Anna Prasadam. 'We ensured all facilities are in place and that no pilgrim faces inconvenience. Even the guidelines for drinking water and food distribution were strictly followed,' he stated. Despite preparations, temple staff faced challenges in managing the crowds, but special teams of officials were deployed to maintain smooth operations.
Meanwhile, the Srisailam dam area also attracted huge crowds, leading to heavy traffic congestion. Sunnipenta Police deployed drones for real-time monitoring.

HYDERABAD: Just as Hyderabadis were getting ready to head home for the long festive weekend, the evening rains played spoilsport on Thursday. With Varalakshmi Vratam and Raksha Bandhan just around the corner, many had planned an early departure, but the downpour brought the city to a standstill. From choked roads and stranded commuters to missed buses and jam-packed Metro stations, the sudden showers turned what should have been a joyful start to the holidays into a frustrating ordeal. The IT corridor bore the brunt. Traffic crawled along key stretches in Gachibowli, Kondapur, Madhapur and Mehdipatnam, with commuters stuck for hours. 'I left my office in Kondapur by 5 pm, hoping to catch a bus to Warangal,' an IT employee posted on X. 'I was stuck near Gachibowli for over 90 minutes. I missed my bus and had to book another one for late at night.' Across Jubilee Hills, Ameerpet and Paradise Junction, glowing brake lights stretched endlessly. 'It usually takes me 25 minutes to reach Paradise Junction from Jubilee Hills. It took me over two and a half hours today,' posted Imran, an X user. The Metro offered no relief. While trains ran on time, crowds spilled out of stations as queues built up on the street. 'I had to let three trains pass before I could get in,' said Alekya, a software engineer. 'Inside, there was no room to even move my hand.'

Tiruchanur temple gears up for Varalakshmi Vratam
Tirupati: The Sri Padmavathi temple in Tiruchanur is preparing for a large influx of devotees for the upcoming Varalakshmi Vratam on August 8. Joint executive officer of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD), Veerabrahmam, held a review meeting to finalise elaborate arrangements for the special day on Monday. The Varalakshmi Vratam will take place at the Asthana Mandapam from 10 am to 12 pm, followed by a grand procession of Goddess Padmavathi Ammavaru on the Swarna Ratham (golden chariot) at 6 can participate in the vratam by paying a fee of Rs 1,000 per couple. To accommodate the expected crowds, TTD officials are setting up LED screens for devotees to watch the ceremony and ensuring a continuous supply of drinking water and food (annaprasadam). Arrangements are also being made for the distribution of kumkum, bangles, and prasadam to all attendees. In preparation for the event, regular services such as Abhishekam, Kalyanotsavam, and Unjal Seva will be cancelled. To maintain a spiritual atmosphere, the temple will be decorated with flowers and lights, and devotional bhajan troupes will perform. The JEO also stressed the importance of coordinating with police and local panchayat authorities to manage traffic, security, and cleanliness. The Varalakshmi Vratam will be broadcast live on SVBC for those unable to attend.
