Revealed: Arsenal's surprise 'replacement for Thomas Partey' if contract talks continue to stall - and he has been hailed as the next N'Golo Kante!
Arsenal are reportedly considering a move for Sevilla midfielder Lucien Agoume as a replacement for Thomas Partey.
The Gunners are discussing the 23-year-old among a number of options, according to The Athletic.
Partey is on course to leave the Emirates after failing to agree a new deal, with his contract expiring at the end of the month.
As such, Mikel Arteta will need to bolster his midfield and Agoume - who some online have dubbed 'the next N'Golo Kante' for his ball-winning ability - has emerged as an option.
Real Sociedad's Martin Zubimendi appears close to joining for £51m but the Gunners are casting their net wider.
Agoume was an important player for Sevilla last season as the Andalusian battled successfully to keep their place in LaLiga, finishing 17th.
Having come through Sochaux's academy, which has produced stars such as Ibrahima Konate, Marcus Thuram, and Maxence Lacroix, Agoume signed for Inter Milan in 2019.
He struggled for first-team football at the San Siro and went out on a series of loans with various clubs before landing at Sevilla permanently this summer.
He also spent the 2023-24 season on loan in Seville, learning his defensive craft off the likes of Sergio Ramos.
Agoume, who was born in Cameroon, has also played 10 times for france Under-21s but is yet to earn his first senior cap.
Arteta did not want Partey to leave but it seem she is headed for the exit, with ESPN reporting that a renewal agreement is not expected after talks reached a standstill.
Partey joined Arsenal for £45million from Atletico Madrid on deadline day in October 2020.
The Ghana international has gone on to play 167 times for the Gunners and has scored nine goals.
Partey was ruled out injured for large chunks of the 2023-24 season but returned as an important figure for Mikel Arteta last campaign as they reached the Champions League semi-finals.

His stint in north London has brought no major trophies, although he did play in their 2023 Community Shield penalties victory over Manchester City.
Partey says his family will be a decisive factor in deciding his future.
'I think the first thing is where are you happy and where do you feel at home. At the end of the day you've been in football, you've been in different teams.
'Then it's about what is your next objective what do you want to achieve next. You still have to look at all this and at the end of the day we all have a family that needs money, this is our mind.
'We are not getting younger. There are a lot of things where you have to look now with a family, where you want them to be happy. When you are young you just play anywhere.
'I'm an Arsenal fan, I can't decide anything and just have to leave it to my agent and the club. Me, I just want to enjoy football.'

Monterrey coach Torrent wary of Dortmund threat after sealing last 16 berth
LOS ANGELES, June 25 (Reuters) - Monterrey coach Domenec Torrent has warned his players that they face another huge challenge at the Club World Cup when they take on Borussia Dortmund in the last 16 in Atlanta on Monday. The Mexican side advanced to the knockout rounds after their 4-0 thrashing of Japan's Urawa Red Diamonds on Wednesday, with the win securing second place in Group E behind Inter Milan. Monterrey, who have won the CONCACAF Champions Cup five times since 2011, will be celebrating the 80th anniversary of the club's formation on Saturday. They finished second in Group E after picking up their first win of the competition against Urawa having drawn with both Inter Milan and Argentina's River Plate. Monterrey coach Domenec Torrent: "Our next game, we know it's very hard. They're another European team that has won a lot of things, a lot of prizes and tournaments and championships in Germany and in Europe. "We've seen them before and at least I have a reference of what we're facing. "They are very sound. It's not exactly the same as Inter Milan, but it's very similar so we'll see what happens with our players, because some of them were on the bench - but we can make use of them - and another player had a cold. "Each game, for me, is like a game of chess, just to see how the opponent is moving the players and how we can do it. Basically, step by step. "We are going to have three or four days to prepare for this new game, which is excellent for us to showcase our football to the world, Mexican football and Monterrey football."

New coach Chivu hails Inter's adaptability after River win
SEATTLE, Washington, June 25 (Reuters) - Inter Milan coach Cristian Chivu has praised the adaptability and commitment of his team after they beat River Plate 2-0 in an intense group match to reach the last 16 of the Club World Cup on Wednesday. Francesco Esposito and Alessandro Bastoni scored the goals in the last quarter of the game to book the 20-times Italian champions a date with Brazilian club Fluminense in Charlotte on Monday. WHY IT'S IMPORTANT: Chivu took charge of the squad for the first time at the Club World Cup, having replaced Simone Inzaghi on a two-year contract in early June. Inzaghi departed by mutual consent after a crushing 5-0 loss to Paris Saint Germain in the Champions League final left Inter without a trophy for the first season since 2019-2020. River put Inter under heavy pressure at the start of Wednesday's game and Chivu was delighted at the character his players showed to come through such a test and get the job done. KEY QUOTES: Cristian Chivu: "The match was played with lots of character and willingness to win, to reach our goal, even though during the first half we were a bit surprised by their intensity, aggression and pressure ... "Maybe the players were not so prepared at first, but then in the second half, we raised the level of intensity ... because we are strong, we're competent, we have players that can play such a game. "I can say that the game was great from every point of view, because we understood the moment that we understood the game." Cristian Chivu: "They always try to add something more at every training session because this can be useful during the game. "They give their utmost, and even those five or six players who have injuries, they're working hard to support the team. I'm happy about that, because I see a great mindset. I see so much desire to play well."

Arsenal close in on Christian Norgaard signing from Brentford
Gunners boss Mikel Arteta is looking for a potential replacement in midfield for Thomas Partey, whose contract expires next week, while Jorginho left the club earlier this month. A fee of around £10million, with a possible further £5m in add-ons, has reportedly been agreed for Norgaard. The 31-year-old Bees skipper, who moved to west London from Fiorentina in 2019, has played more than 120 Premier League games since helping Brentford to promotion in 2021. He helped the club to a 10th-place top-flight finish last campaign in what turned out to be Thomas Frank's last season as manager. Norgaard was a member of the Denmark team that reached the semi-final of the European Championship in 2021, losing 2-1 to England at Wembley.
