India showcases ISRO, CSIR technologies at global biodiversity summit in Guyana

Georgetown: The Indian High Commission in Guyana organised an exhibition on Thursday showcasing technologies developed and offered by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR).
The exhibition was held on the margins of the Global Biodiversity Alliance Summit, being held in Guyana's capital, Georgetown.
The display featured innovations in the field of resource mapping, climate adaptation, agriculture and several allied disciplines.
"The exhibition is organised with support from the Government of Guyana, showcasing our expanding bilateral cooperation in sustainable development and innovation. We would like to thank President of Guyana for his unwavering support to the initiative," the Indian High Commission posted on X.
The Indian High Commission stated that the initiative is part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision for India's evolving partnership with its partners in the Global South, including Guyana and other CARICOM partners.
During his visit to Guyana in November 2024, PM Modi addressed the 2nd India-CARICOM Summit held in Georgetown, and envisioned a multifaceted partnership with innovation as an important pillar of India's partnership with CARICOM underlining cooperation and collaboration in the field of science and technology, particularly application of Indian space technology in resource mapping, climate change and agriculture, the High Commission mentioned.
The ISRO delegation is in Guyana to attend the Global Biodiversity Alliance Summit aimed at strengthening international commitment to biodiversity conservation.
This visit is focused on further bolstering the partnership between the two nations in space-based applications.
The delegation includes scientists, G. Srinivasa Rao, from the National Remote Sensing Centre (NRSC), G.S. Pujar, with the Earth Observation and Disaster Management Programme Office, and Sudhakar Reddy Chintala, Head of the Forest Biodiversity and Ecology Division at NRSC.
According to the High Commission, this visit underlines India's cooperation with Guyana in the field of biodiversity management, environmental sciences, climate change, agriculture, disaster management and various other space applications.

"The Earth observation satellite jointly developed by ISRO and NASA will be sent into space on July 30 by the GSLV-F16 rocket made in India," Indian Space Research Organisation chairman V Narayanan said. It will be launched at a distance of 740 km. It can take pictures of the earth 24 hours a day in all weather conditions and the satellite can detect landslides, aid in disaster management and monitor climate change, he said while speaking to reporters at the airport here on Sunday night. "The satellite will benefit India, the US and the entire world... it is also crucial for monitoring earth's natural resources," he added. On Gaganyaan, India's human spaceflight Mission, Narayanan said a humanoid, called Vyommitra, will be sent into space in December this year. Once it proved to be successful, two other uncrewed missions would be launched next year. Following the success, the Gaganyaan Mission will be launched in March 2027 as Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said.

An earth observation satellite NISAR, jointly developed by NASA and ISRO, is set to be launched on July 30 at 5.40 pm from the country's only spaceport in Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh. Weighing 2,392 kg, NISAR — which stands for NASA-ISRO Synthetic Aperture Radar — is a one-of-its kind earth observation satellite and will be the first one ever to observe the Earth in two frequencies — NASA's L-band and ISRO's S-band. 'Each system's signal is sensitive to different sizes of features on Earth's surface, and each specialises in measuring different attributes, such as moisture content, surface roughness, and motion,' said NASA. Putting two radar systems on a single satellite is a unique engineering feat because the two systems require different sets of hardware, and yet have to function in a complementary fashion without interfering with one another. Costing around USD 1.5 billion, it is the most expensive earth observation satellite in the world, with ISRO contributing Rs 469.4 crores for the satellite. The satellite will be launched on the GSLV-F16 and be put in a 734 km sun synchronous orbit — an orbit in which the satellite reaches over a place at the same time each day. The satellite will scan the entire globe every 12 days, proving a series of very detailed images of the Earth's surface. NISAR will provide an unprecedented view of the planet. With two radar systems in place, the satellite would be able to provide very high-resolution data, in all types of weather conditions, and both during the day and the night. The satellite is powerful enough to capture changes as small as one centimetre in size during its repeated observations over the same terrain. It will therefore be able to study the dynamic processes happening on Earth's surface, like retreat of glaciers, movement of sea ice, the path of a storm, changes in vegetation and forest cover, and even the movements during earthquakes and volcanoes. Scientists expect this satellite to provide new insights into our understandings of processes like climate change or natural hazards and better prepare for them. It can also help with practical applications such as tracking the changes in soil moisture or mapping surface water levels. 'The satellite will benefit India, the US and the entire world… it is also crucial for monitoring earth's natural resources,' ISRO chairman V Narayanan added. There have been several delays in NISAR's launch, with the last year's scheduled launch getting postponed after technical issues. There was a need to fix the one of the key components of the satellite — a 12-metre unfurlable antennae — for which the satellite was shipped back to the United States.

The Action Plan will serve as a time-bound blueprint to equip the state government with advanced AI capabilities. AI Implementation Roadmap – Focused on six key pillars: Data, Digital Infrastructure, Capacity Building, Research and Development, Startup Facilitation, and 'Safe and Trusted AI'. The goal is to train over 2.5 lakh individuals, including students, MSMEs, and government officials, in AI, ML, and related domains. Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel has approved the Action Plan for Implementation of Artificial Intelligence 2025-2030 to facilitate smart decision-making, citizen-focused schemes, efficient service delivery, and effective welfare programs through the application of Artificial Intelligence. Aligning with Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi's vision to position India as a global leader in digital empowerment and technology sectoral progress through extensive AI adoption, Gujarat has launched this Action Plan. This action plan of Gujarat has been announced in alignment with Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi's vision to leveraging widespread use of AI for digital empowerment and preparing India to lead the world in the technological sector. At the annual Chintan Shibir in Somnath in November 2024, Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel declared that Gujarat will leverage Artificial Intelligence (AI) across its administrative framework and government departments to lead in technology-driven governance and socio-economic progress, in line with the vision of Viksit Gujarat@2047. To realize this vision and embed AI in governance, healthcare, education, agriculture, fintech, and other critical sectors across the state, a 10-member expert AI Taskforce Committee has been established. The CM has approved the Action Plan for Implementation of A.I. 2025-2030, based on the Taskforce's recommendations. Prepared under the guidance of the CM, this Action Plan will serve as a time-bound blueprint to equip the state government with advanced AI capabilities. Furthermore, it will foster a robust, innovative AI ecosystem that ensures seamless service delivery, improved citizen welfare, and enhanced quality of life with prosperity. To ensure the structured and timely implementation of the action plan, the state will establish a dedicated AI and Deep Tech Mission. This mission will function as a specialized institutional mechanism, leading the design, implementation, and innovation of AI strategies and emerging technologies within the state government. Additionally, it will strengthen a robust ecosystem by fostering collaboration among startups, academic research, and industries. The mission will focus on skilling, reskilling, and upskilling the workforce in AI and related technologies. ------------------
