Barman arrested in Dublin accused of possessing €1mill in crime proceeds
A barman faces trial for deceiving multiple individuals in Ireland and possessing €1 million in crime proceeds following a Garda National Economic Crime Bureau (GNECB) probe.
The funds were allegedly held from 2010 to 2013 in multiple bank accounts under various names.
Kevin McMahon, 51, with an address at Calle Vincente Inglada, Alicante, Spain, faced 130 charges when he appeared at Dublin District Court today on 131 charges.
There were 21 charges under Section 6 of the Theft and Fraud Act for deception of 18 people about their financial interests at an unknown location in the State.

He also had 110 money laundering section 7 of the Criminal Justice (Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing) Act 2010 for possessing, handling or acquiring sums ranging from €1,000 to €300,025 in several banks or financial institutions with accounts under different names.
GNECB Detective Ciaran Ronan told Judge Michele Finan that he arrested the accused this morning in Dublin after the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) authorised charging him.
The DPP has directed trial on indictment in the Circuit Court and that Mr McMahon could be sent forward for sentencing on a signed plea should that arise.
Judge Finan raised the issue of providing disclosure to the defence.
Solicitor Michael French told the court that prosecutors must prepare a book of evidence for his client.
It must be served before granting a trial order.
Judge Finan also noted that a co-accused was expected to come before the court on June 30, and she adjourned Mr McMahon's case to that date.
Mr McMahon remained silent during the hearing but was granted legal aid.
There was no objection to bail, but the judge warned that he must get court approval to change his address.

Mr Mopiti, with an address at Brookview Avenue, Tallaght, is charged with more than 30 offences, mostly thefts, on dates in 2020 and 2021. He allegedly stole bank cards from a man and woman and made withdrawals from their accounts. He also allegedly stole from the man by buying four iPhones worth around €5,000 at shops in Dublin and groceries at supermarkets. Another charge states he stole €3,500 from this alleged victim on May 12, 2021 by applying for an online bank loan in his name. The combined total of money taken from the alleged victims' accounts is in excess of €17,000. Mr Mopiti is also accused of using a false AIB document containing false information at an address in Dublin on May 14, 2021. Two money laundering charges allege that he possessed €2,000 and €7,000 in crime proceeds on May 6 and November 9, 2021. A third count states that he aided, abetted, counselled or procured the commission of an offence between May 9 and 15, 2021 by possession of a USB storage device which had the personal banking information of individuals who were victims of money laundering.' Detective Garda Michael Harney of the Garda National Economic Crime Bureau said he arrested the accused at Brookview Avenue yesterday and took him to Tallaght garda station. He made no reply to any of the charges after caution when they were put to him. Gda Harney said the DPP was directing trial on indictment, meaning the case will be sent to the circuit court when a book of evidence is ready. There was also consent for the accused to be sent forward on a signed plea of guilty if that should arise. Barrister Kevin McCrave applied for bail and there were no garda objections. Judge Power granted bail with no cash lodgement required. Under conditions, Mr Mopiti must sign on three times weekly at Tallaght garda station, surrender his passport within 24 hours and not apply for any other travel documents. He is to be contactable at all times on a phone number provided to the gardaí. The accused, who has not yet indicated how he intends to plead to the charges, did not have to address the court during the brief hearing. Gardaí launch investigation after teen boy found dead in Donegal

Man accused of threatening to burn woman's home down released on bail
Garda Liam Finn objected to bail due to the nature of the case A labourer accused of threatening to burn his female housemate's Dublin home down has been released on bail pending possible extra charges. Valentin Ursachi, 41, formerly of Park Boulevard, Tyrrelstown, Dublin 15, was charged with making a threat to damage the woman's residence in a way likely to endanger her life during the alleged incident on Friday. He appeared before Judge John Brennan at Dublin District Court yesterday. Garda Liam Finn objected to bail due to the nature of the case, alleging "he threatened to burn his housemate's house down," and he added that further charges were "most likely". However, in subsequent exchanges with defence solicitor Tracy Horan, he agreed that the imposition of specific conditions would allay his fears. Dressed in a cream jacket, white trousers, and a navy and beige top, Mr Ursachi, who did not address the court, listened to the proceedings with the aid of a Romanian interpreter. Judge Brennan ordered him to stay away from the property, surrender his passport within two hours of release, and not apply for replacement travel documents. He was also instructed to have no contact with the complainant and to sign on once a week at a Garda station. The complainant was not required to attend or give evidence at the bail hearing. Legal aid was granted after Ms Horan submitted a statement of her client's means and told the court that the man was working on minimum wage.
