We're feeling pretty super, man.
The Man of Steel is back on movie screens, and thankfully, this one's not a sourpuss: David Corenswet takes his turn with the cape and tights in James Gunn's "Superman," an exciting intro to the rebooted DC superhero universe. The character has been a pop-culture icon for 80-plus years, so anytime there's a new one, it's a big deal. Also worth watching is "Zombies 4: Dawn of the Vampires," the latest in Disney's teen musical franchise with rising star Milo Manheim. And speaking of kids, yours might be watching more than usual since it's summer break, so we've got new guides for what and how much to watch.
Now on to the good stuff:
See David Corenswet as the newest Man of Steel in James Gunn's 'Superman'
I talked with a bunch of "Superman" cast members, and while they all say similarly, Rachel Brosnahan says it best about David Corenswet: "He is Superman." I had an in-depth conversation with the latest Man of Steel about bringing "dad energy" to the role as a new father and what qualities he shares with the big blue Boy Scout. "We can be a force for calm and reassurance and centeredness even in the most tumultuous times in life," Corenswet says.
And he's the main reason why "Superman" works so well. Director James Gunn has created a highly enjoyable adventure in a busy universe that feels electric and meaningful. (Peep my ★★★½ review.) Also, as part of our round-the-clock "Superman" coverage, we've got an exclusive look at the Daily Planet, a parent's guide for those with superhero-loving kids, an updated ranking of the top 50 superhero movies, plus a rundown of the best screen Supermen.
Stream Disney's 'Zombies 4: Dawn of the Vampires' with Milo Manheim
As the father of a tween girl, I was an early adopter of Disney's "Zombies," the 2018 fantasy musical comedy about a football-playing zombie (Milo Manheim) going to a "normal" high school and falling for cheer captain Addison (Meg Donnelly). It was a breezy and fun flick that birthed a loyal fandom, more movies and more monsters (including werewolves and aliens).
For the premiere of "Zombies 4: Dawn of the Vampires," Manheim stopped by our studio for a photo shoot, plus we chatted about his "weird" career and recent run as Seymour in the off-Broadway revival of "Little Shop of Horrors." Being in the show "fueled everything," he says. "It fueled my drive, my excitement, my passion. It also fueled my fear, for sure, but that's the best part of it."
"Zombies 4" is among several new movies on streaming this week, a list that also includes the thrillers "Opus" and "Drop," plus Tyler Perry's latest "Madea" comedy.
Get a handle on your kids' screen time this summer
Summertime means no school for the youngsters and more hours to watch TV and spend time on various screens and devices. TV critic Kelly Lawler talked with doctors, media experts and television creators, exploring how to navigate screen time, what children should be watching, and the things that you may want them to avoid. She's included a guide to the best TV shows for elementary-age kids, such as "Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man," "SpongeBob SquarePants" and "Percy Jackson and the Olympians."
Kelly doesn't forget the adults, though: She has a guide to all the new TV streaming this week, like the return of Michael C. Hall's fan-favorite serial killer in "Dexter: Resurrection."

l Love The Parent Trap Reunion In Freakier Friday, So Of Course I Had To Ask Lindsay Lohan How It Came Together

When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. Spoilers ahead for Freakier Friday. The Freakier Friday release of course has Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis reuniting on the big screen as mother and daughter over 20 years later for another hilarious body swap comedy. But, did you know that within the movie Lohan also gets to work with one of her The Parent Trap co-stars? When the latest trailer for the sequel dropped last month, eagle-eyed fans noticed Elaine Hendrix briefly makes an appearance, and I had know how they made it happen. I Asked Lindsay Lohan How Freakier Friday's Parent Trap Reunion Came Together Elaine Hendrix played the twins' stepmother-to-be, Meredith Blake, in Lohan's first movie in 1998. The camping trip scene where Hallie and Annie raise hell on Meredith lives rent free in the heads of many Disney kids, so how lovely is it that Freakier Friday has a little nod to another one of Lohan's movies? Here's what Lohan told me about how Hendrix was cast in the movie: [Director] Nisha Ganatra is friends with her. I'm still friends with Elaine. But, it was kind of just on a whim we were like, 'Should Elaine do this?' And we're like, yes. Why not? And, it was a great day. We had so much fun. I love Elaine. It just kind of came about randomly. Lindsay Lohan was twelve years old when she played dual roles of Annie and Hallie (which was honestly Oscar-worthy given I and many people thought Lohan really was a twin when it came out). As the actress shared during our interview, the Freakier Friday director is friends with Hendrix, and the decision was made sort of on a 'whim'. When I asked Lohan if she's stayed in contact with Hendrix over the years, she said this: So we just actually were talking yesterday, so it's funny that you brought her up. A friend of hers is doing a production of something having to do with the Parent Trap in New York they're doing… I love Elaine. Lohan is talking about an off-Broadway The Parent Trap musical parody called Ginger Twinsies that is currently playing at the Orpheum Theatre from director Kevin Zak. Per an Instagram post from last month, Elaine Hendrix actually joined the producing team of the show. Disney+: from $9.99 a month w/ ad-supported planYou can watch both The Parent Trap and the original Freaky Friday before Freakier Friday's theatrical release with a Disney+ subscription. Plans start at $9.99 a month for its new ad-supported plan. Go ad-free and pay $15.99 a month or save 16% and pre-pay $159.99 for a Deal Where To Look For Elaine Hendrix In Freakier Friday I'm absolutely obsessed with the fact that Lindsay Lohan and Elaine Hendrix still keep in touch, and talk about The Parent Trap-related things, but I bet you're wondering where to find the reunion in Freakier Friday, right? I've seen the movie, and while I won't give the details away, I can direct you to a scene that has a lot of fashion in it as teased in the trailers. You won't miss her! Along with Hendrix showing up in Freakier Friday, she was also seen at the premiere with Lohan and another The Parent Trap co-star, Lisa Ann Walter. Check them out: All this Lindsay Lohan nostalgia just makes my heart happy! You can see Freakier Friday when it hits theaters on August 8.

6 highly-anticipated movies coming in August, including 'Weapons'

July was truly a delight for moviegoers. There were three major franchise blockbusters with Jurassic World Rebirth, Superman and The Fantastic Four: First Steps. We got Brad Pitt driving race cars in F1: The Movie, and a horror reboot/sequel with I Know What You Did Last Summer. There was Eddington for the Ari Aster fans and Happy Gilmore 2 for those that wanted to turn on Netflix and turn off their brains and have some fun for a couple hours. Now that we are entering the final stretch of summer into the fall, the big movie releases might slow down a bit, but they're not stopping. August has a handful of highly anticipated flicks hitting theaters, so we're here to let you know what we're excited for. Here are some releases to keep an eye on in August: The Naked Gun - August 1 Liam Neeson and Pamela Anderson bringing the iconic comedy franchise back to the big screen with impeccable dry comedic timing? Say less. Akiva Schaffer knocks it out of the park with this one. Weapons - August 8 The trailer is very much giving "I'll never sleep again" vibes, which is exactly what you want from a horror movie. Weapons stars Julia Garner, Alden Ehrenreich and Benedict Wong, and is directed by Zach Cregger (Barbarian). Freakier Friday - August 8 The Lohannaissance is upon us. Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis reprise their roles from the 2003 comedy, and we add Manny Jacinto into the mix. Honey Don't - August 22 Charlie Day, Chris Evans, Margaret Qualley and Aubrey Plaza lead this Coen brother — Ethan, to be exact — movie. It's a murder mystery investigation with a top-notch cast. Highest 2 Lowest - August 22 Denzel Washington and Spike Lee team up once again, this time to reimagine Akira Kurosawa's High and Low (1963). Also stars Jeffrey Wright and A$AP Rocky. Caught Stealing - August 29 Austin Butler gets caught up in some dangerous shenanigans in Darren Aronofsky's latest, to put things mildly. This star-studded cast also includes Bad Bunny, Vincent D'Onofrio, Zoë Kravitz, Matt Smith, Liev Schreiber and Regina King.
