Why Tinder's ice cream collab gets the heartbreak struggle right

The Hindu5 days ago
We have all been there. Curled up in bed, staring blankly at the ceiling, convincing ourselves that our ex was actually a bit boring and probably did not moisturise anyway. And as the crushing weight of heartbreak settles in, what do we reach for? Closure? Therapy? No. It's always ice cream first.
And Tinder has decided to lean in to that very chaos with a cheeky ice cream collaboration with the Mumbai-based Indu Ice Cream. As part of Tinder's ongoing Move On campaign, it has launched four limited-edition heartbreak-inspired flavours that promise to turn your ex into an afterthought. 'As a brand, we don't believe breakups are just sad montages,' says Aditi Shorewal, Tinder's communications lead for India and Korea. 'They're the pilot episode of your next season. With this campaign, we're helping people box it out (literally), toss it out (see: our Ex-press Disposal Truck), and now, scoop it out. Healing is best served cold.' Indu Ice Cream founder Saloni Kukreja, who understands both flavour and feelings, calls the collaboration 'playful,' adding that it's where 'modern dating meets bold, Indian-inspired scoops.'
The flavours are each a mini emotional arc in themselves. There is Dil Ka Falooda, which folds desi drama into a self-respect sundae — perfect for the moment you realise your dignity deserves dessert. Not Your Match Ya is the palate cleanse you never knew you needed: a berry compote meets matcha slivers — sweet, spicy, and ideal as an ego boost after deleting that one match who should've stayed in the drafts. Your Ex's Tears is exactly what it sounds like, salty (with a lovely hit of caramel and a few chunks of coconut), ice-cold, and deeply satisfying, especially when consumed while watching Abbott Elementary and muttering, 'I'm so glad I dodged that.' And finally, Toxic Expresso (a deeply satisfying disc of dark chocolate unearthed over a bed of coffee ice cream) is that one bitter flavour you try once, just to prove you've outgrown it. Less rom-com, more roast.
These limited edition flavours are available only in Mumbai on Swiggy and Zomato.

Desi Boys on the Block: Indian Boyband formed by 1D, Ariana Grande, and Ed Sheeran hitmaker to debut

In the '90s, when musician Savan Kotecha first entered the US music industry with dreams of being in a boy band, he was bluntly told that 'no girl will put an Indian guy on her wall' and he should focus on songwriting instead. 'I knew back then that was true, but I always waited for the day when it would be possible to do it,' says Kotecha. Having written hits like What Makes You Beautiful and One Thing for One Direction, God Is A Woman for Ariana Grande, Sapphire for Ed Sheeran, and many more, Kotecha has put together a boy band under his label Visva Records, along with Republic Records, and Universal Music India which may just make his doubters in the '90s change their minds. Named OutStation, the band has 5 members from across the country between the ages of 17 and 22. One member, Bhuvan Shetty, is from Udupi, Karnataka. Others include Hemang Singh from Prayagraj, Mashaal Shaikh from Goa, Kurien Sebastian, a Malayali from Delhi, and Shayan Pattem from Hyderabad. The aim was to create a band that 'feels truly Indian', says Kotecha, adding. 'I think what K-pop did right was that it got so big in South Korea that the rest of the world had to pay attention. We don't need to look to the West for validation. I want them to become a phenomenon in India first, and if it gets big enough, the West will pay attention.' Shetty was scouted through his social media profile, where he regularly covers songs with a guitar accompanying his soulful voice. Clearing a multi-round audition process, he was put in a boot camp with 11 other boys. 'The camp was pretty hectic, there was no time at all, but it was life-changing,' says Shetty. Kotecha explains its purpose, ending with 5 boys finally selected, 'We made sure we had vocal coaches and choreographers teaching them, but we also did things like go busking on the beach and start performing, getting them used to what being in a band would feel like. It was a chemistry test, but also about seeing everyone's work ethic.'

Yeh Rishta's Rahul Sharma on the power of long-running TV dramas; says ‘Infinite shows let you prove your worth'

Rahul Sharma , currently seen as Anshuman in Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai, opens up about the changing landscape of Indian television and how the format of a show shapes an actor's journey. 'Limited series may be the future, but infinite shows give you space to prove your talent,' Rahul shares. While acknowledging the growing popularity of short-format content, he feels these shows often don't allow actors the time to shine. 'Limited series are not always given the recognition they deserve. People don't easily notice your talent in short formats because they're not seen as hits unless they run for years.' Rahul believes that infinite shows, despite their challenges, offer greater scope for character development and audience connection. 'With longer-running shows, you have time to explore different shades, build audience attachment, and prove your place in the industry,' he explains. However, he's not dismissive of short-form storytelling. Reflecting on his own experience, Rahul adds, 'I've worked in both, like in Kaal Bhairav. Limited series can be impactful too, especially for thrillers or romance when done in seasons. They're tighter and more focused.' by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Why So Many Texas Drivers Are Switching Insurance After Seeing This Policy Auto Pro Get Quote Undo He also points out the unpredictability of TV today. 'You just can't predict how long a show will run anymore. What starts off as an infinite show might wrap up in a few months,' he says, emphasizing the need for flexibility and strong writing. Despite the rise of OTT, Rahul is confident about television's staying power. 'TV dramas still connect with families. If the story is engaging and relatable, people will watch,' he concludes. His perspective offers a grounded look at the evolving formats while reaffirming faith in the enduring power of television.
