Nikolas Plytas just did what no foil surfer ever has after 800 attempts
Nikolas Plytas Lands World's First Double Backflip on Hydrofoil/ Instagram
Greek water sports phenom Nikolas Plytas has pulled off a groundbreaking feat, landing the world's first-ever double backflip on a hydrofoil board. The achievement, captured on video and shared on Instagram, marks a milestone in aerial foilboarding and comes after over 800 grueling attempts.
A trick six months in the making
Plytas, a professional athlete known for his work across waterskiing, snowboarding, and foil surfing, devoted half a year solely to this single goal.

'Hardest thing I've ever done in my life, and also the world's first double backflip in foilboarding,' Plytas wrote on Instagram.
'Over the past six months, I gave everything to this trick. Every time I was on the water, my only focus was landing it.'
Despite the inherent danger and complexity of the trick, flipping twice while riding a foil-equipped surfboard, Plytas remained determined to push the limits of what's possible on water.
Who is Nikolas Plytas?
Born July 30, 1995, in Athens, Greece, Nikolas Plytas has long been a standout figure in extreme sports. He began his career in 2006 and competes across multiple disciplines including:
Waterskiing
Foil surfing
Wing foiling
Snowboard slopestyle
From early on, Plytas displayed a taste for ambitious stunts. At 19, he famously performed tricks over the rusted remains of a shipwreck at Elefsina. He's also set a national record in the Men's Tricks category, scoring 8,780 points during the first Hatzis Open at his home base, Hatzis Waterski Paradise School, run by his coach George Hatzis, at Aliartos Lake.

He divides his time training between Lake Caiaphas in Zacharo and Aliartos Lake, and even experiments with creative crossover projects. In 2021, Plytas combined snowboarding and water skiing in a hybrid video titled H2O, where he transitioned between snow and water using a jet ski and portable winch.
Not his 'First'
This isn't the first time Plytas has claimed a world-first trick on a foilboard. In 2024, he landed what he called the first-ever backside rodeo 540, a complex aerial spin.
While the maneuver drew widespread praise, it also sparked debate. Legendary surfer Kelly Slater weighed in on the terminology of the trick:
'I'm sure I'll get tarred and feathered for this comment but… I get that skaters call rotation based on direction of rotation, but in surfing, everything done facing the wall is and always will be considered frontside,' Slater commented.
'The first rodeo (clowns) were done going (and called) backside rotating opposite to this.
If skating is a precursor for direction of spin, then should this just be called a backside McTwist and not a rodeo? Seems the medium you're riding matters when distinguishing and thus the confusion we surfers suffer. Super sick though no matter what.'
Whether or not the label sticks, Plytas's groundbreaking tricks are redefining boundaries in the evolving world of hydrofoil surfing.
Hydrofoils have often been criticized within traditional surfing circles for their dangers, likened to 'an underwater guillotine' by some purists.
But Plytas is among a growing group of elite athletes who are embracing the foil, not just for small wave efficiency or open ocean rides, but as a platform for elite aerial performance.
His double backflip isn't just a personal triumph. It represents a bold step forward for the sport itself.
From crashing over 800 times to rewriting the rulebook on aerial hydrofoiling, Nikolas Plytas's relentless pursuit of innovation continues to make waves, literally and figuratively, across the global water sports scene.

Greek basketball finals suspended after rivalry again turns ugly
ATHENS, Greece — Greece's government on Monday suspended the basketball league finals between Panathinaikos and Olympiacos following on-court scuffles involving rival security teams. Olympiacos won Sunday's game 91-83, leveling the best-of-five series at 1-1. The third game, scheduled for Wednesday, has been postponed. The owners of both clubs were summoned to meet with the country's sports minister. ' will be asked to provide explicit guarantees that this situation will be brought to an end. If not, this year's championship will be definitively canceled,' government spokesman Pavlos Marinakis said. 'There can be no tolerance for such pathological phenomena of violence and delinquency,' he added. The two clubs based in the Athens area have a long and often violent history of rivalry spanning basketball, soccer and other sports. The latest unrest comes despite recent government efforts to curb sports-related violence, including surveillance systems at stadiums and mandatory ticketing linked to state ID cards. Both Olympiacos and Panathinaikos competed in the EuroLeague Final Four in Abu Dhabi last month, finishing third and fourth, respectively. Fenerbahce defeated Monaco in the championship game. Sunday's game at Peace and Friendship Stadium was marred by multiple incidents. Panathinaikos owner Dimitris Giannakopoulos was escorted out at halftime following a heated exchange with referees. Head coach Ergin Ataman was ejected in the fourth quarter after receiving a second technical foul. Television footage of the game showed security guards from the two teams coming to blows as Giannakopoulos walked out in a heated atmosphere. In a statement, Panathinaikos called the officiating 'disgraceful' and biased against them. Olympiacos co-chairman Giorgos Angelopoulos fired back, accusing Giannakopoulos of abusive behavior. 'The guy is toxic — he is the definition of violence,' Angelopoulos said. 'He cannot continue to be present in Greek sports and act this way.' 'No apology will be accepted,' he added. 'Let Panathinaikos fans celebrate him as a tough guy. We don't want people like that.' Panathinaikos had won Game 1 of the series 80-68 on Friday at the OAKA Arena in northern Athens.

Will Enrique Hernandez play tonight against New York Mets? Latest update on Los Angeles Dodgers star's injury report (June 2, 2025)
Image Source: Getty Los Angeles Dodgers fans are patiently awaiting news on whether the utility star Enrique Hernandez will be on the field to face the New York Mets this very night at 10:10 p.m. ET. With the Dodgers embroiled in a big four-game series against the Mets at Dodger Stadium, Hernandez might swing the game one way or the other. His flexibility and postseason heroics have made him a fan favourite; however, these latest injuries are a real worry. Enrique Hernandez's injury status remains uncertain Enrique Hernandez's playing status is still up in the air with respect to the Dodgers being scheduled to play also against the Mets, however it has given Dodgers fans jitters. Hernandez is very valuable and useful as he can play almost anywhere in the field. Hernandez did have his left hand hurt last July and missed some games because of that. He has returned now, but recent news advises he is still feeling some discomfort. As of June 1, 2025, there is no reporting regarding additional injury, but the Dodgers are deliberately cautious to keep him ready and healthy. The team's boss, Dave Roberts, hasn't said if Hernandez will play yet. They might decide just before the game starts. Hernandez is awesome in big games, hitting .294 in 14 playoff games in 2024. If he can't play, guys like Chris Taylor or Andy Pages might step in, but they don't play as many positions as Hernandez. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Поза во сне может многое рассказать о вашем характере! Hernandez is special because he can play 1st, 3rd, or outfield which helps when you're short on players. The Dodgers pitchers are hurt too with Glasnow and Sasaki out. So the hitters need to do extra. Hernandez hit a huge homer in the 2024 playoffs, showing he's clutch. If he can't play tonight, the Dodgers might not be able to hold their division lead.
