
Delhi govt launches 400 electric buses under DEVi scheme

on Friday inaugurated 400
electric buses
under the
Delhi Electric Vehicle Initiative
(DEVI).
The introduction of these DEVI buses is part of a larger effort by the Delhi government to expand its electric mobility system. Currently, the city has over 2000 electric buses in operation.
The Chief Minister of Delhi,
Rekha Gupta
, and the Union Minister, Dharmendra Pradhan, jointly flagged off the new fleet. The buses are equipped with an
Intelligent Transport Management System
(ITMS). Delhi CM said that 2,080 more electric buses will be added by the end of the year.
JBM Group
manufactured 120 of the 400 new buses, which will operate from the Ghazipur Depot. With this, JBM now has over 650 electric buses deployed in the capital.

The buses include a
Real-Time Passenger Information System
. This system provides live location tracking.
CCTV surveillance is installed for onboard security. Stop request buttons are available for passenger convenience.
The buses are equipped with Fire Detection & Alarm Systems. Vehicle Health Monitoring Systems are in place for proactive maintenance.
The driver's area features ergonomic dashboards. These dashboards are designed for minimal distraction and maximum control. The ECOLIFE is designed to be a driver-centric vehicle.

Punjab sees steepest decline in PM-Kisan beneficiaries with 49 per cent drop in five years
CHANDIGARH: Punjab has recorded the steepest fall in the country in the number of beneficiaries under the PM-Kisan scheme, with figures dropping by nearly 49 per cent over the past five years. Beneficiaries fell from 23.01 lakh between December 2019 and March 2020, the highest-ever recorded in the state when farmers received Rs 466.47 crore, to just 11.34 lakh between April and July 2025, who received Rs 387.76 crore. Recently, in reply to an unstarred question raised by Congress MP from Ludhiana, Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, Union Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare Ram Nath Thakur stated that in the financial year 2025-26, Rs 63,500 crore had been allocated for the PM-Kisan scheme. 'The 20th instalment of the PM-Kisan scheme was released on August 2, 2025 and more than 9.71 crore beneficiaries received benefits amounting to more than Rs 20,500 crore. Out of this, more than 11.34 lakh beneficiaries from Punjab received the benefit amounting to Rs 387.76 crore,' the reply stated. It added that a farmer-centric digital infrastructure has ensured the benefits of the scheme reach all farmers across the country without the involvement of intermediaries. 'Maintaining absolute transparency in registering and verifying beneficiaries, the Government of India has disbursed over Rs 3.90 lakh crore through 20 instalments since the inception of the scheme,' it noted.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated National Highways projects worth ₹ 11,000 crore in Delhi today, August 17, 2025. During the inauguration ceremony of the two major National Highway projects, the Delhi section of the Dwarka Expressway and the Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II), PM Modi was felicitated by Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, Delhi CM Rekha Gupta and Haryana CM Nayab Singh Saini. Prior to the inauguration ceremony, PM Modi engaged with construction workers on the Delhi section of the Dwarka Expressway and the Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II). The Delhi section of the Dwarka Expressway and the Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II) are part of the Government's broader plan to reduce congestion in the capital. These projects aim to significantly enhance connectivity, shorten travel times, and ease traffic in Delhi and nearby regions. Ahead of the inauguration, PM Modi received a grand welcome from supporters. The Delhi section of Dwarka Expressway stretches 10.1 km and was constructed at a cost of approximately Rs. 5,360 crore. This segment offers multi-modal connectivity to Yashobhoomi, the DMRC Blue and Orange lines, the upcoming Bijwasan railway station, and the Dwarka cluster Bus Depot. It includes 5.9 km from Shiv Murti intersection to the Road Under Bridge (RUB) at Dwarka Sector-21, and 4.2 km from Dwarka Sector-21 RUB to the Delhi-Haryana border, facilitating direct access to Urban Extension Road-II. Earlier, PM Modi inaugurated the 19 km Haryana section of the Dwarka Expressway in March 2024.

Samsung begins manufacturing laptops in India
Synopsis Samsung has begun laptop production in India. The manufacturing is taking place at their Greater Noida factory. This expands Samsung's existing Indian manufacturing, which includes phones and tablets. Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw met with Samsung executives. He noted Samsung's expansion of advanced technology manufacturing in India. Samsung's plant was established in India in 1996. Agencies New Delhi: Korean electronics major Samsung has started production of laptops in India at its Greater Noida factory, sources aware of the development said. Samsung has been making feature phones, smartphones, wearables, and tablets at its Greater Noida factory. "Samsung has expanded its manufacturing portfolio. It has started manufacturing laptops in India at its Greater Noida factory. It has plans to start manufacturing more devices in the country," a source told PTI. An email query sent to Samsung did not elicit any reply. Union electronics and IT minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, after a meeting with Samsung Southwest Asia President and CEO JB Park, and Samsung Southwest Asia Corporate Vice President SP Chun, had said on Saturday that "Samsung continues to expand manufacturing of its advanced technology devices in Bharat, driven by talent and innovation." Samsung plant was one of the first global electronics manufacturing facilities set up in India in 1996. Earlier this year, Samsung Electronics President and Head of Mobile eXperience (MX) Business TM Roh had shared that the company has started preparation for manufacturing laptops in India. Globally, Samsung has its second largest mobile phone manufacturing unit in India and it is the second largest exporter of the handsets from the country after Apple. While Samsung is the second largest smartphone player in India both in terms of value and volume share as per a Counterpoint Research report, the company is yet to make its mark in the laptop segment. Samsung is also the second largest player in the tablet PC segment with a share of 15 per cent, according to the CyberMedia Research report.
