Air India Crash 'Shocking': Expert Warns Aircrafts Are Like Flying Bombs Loaded With Fuel
Aviation expert Subhash Goyal has called the tragic Air India crash in Ahmedabad 'very shocking,' raising major concerns about aviation safety in India. Goyal, who is the Chairman of the Aviation and Tourism Committee of the Indian Chamber of Commerce, warned that airplanes — especially when fully loaded with fuel — can become 'flying bombs' in case of malfunctions. Stressing that safety checks are standard and stringent in India, he noted that Air India does adhere to all protocols and that the Dreamliner involved in the crash was relatively new and well-equipped with the latest features. His statement comes amid rising scrutiny of Boeing 787 Dreamliners, after whistleblowers raised serious concerns earlier this year. As investigators begin probing what went wrong, experts and global regulators are now calling for a comprehensive review of aircraft manufacturing and maintenance standards. Separately, CNN-News 18 reported that the aeroplane was coming from the Malaysia's Kuala Lumpur and fire was doused upon landing. During the landing, the fourth engine of the aircraft caught fire, prompting the pilots to alert officials in Chennai, the report said. After landing the aircraft safely, fire tenders that were on standby doused the fire, the report quoted sources as saying. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD In a separate aircraft accident, a passenger plane was involved in an accident at the Kalispell City Airport in America's Montana on Monday and burst into flames. The pilot and three passengers, however, survived, and only two persons onboard suffered light injuries. In related aviation news, Air India on Monday announced the suspension of services between Delhi and Washington DC. The airline said in a press release that the suspension was primarily driven by the planned shortfall in the fleet as the airline commenced retrofitting 26 of its Boeing 787-8 aircraft last month. The continued closure of airspace over Pakistan has impacted the airline's long-haul operations, leading to longer flight routings and increased operational complexity, the statement further read.

Engine alert halts IndiGo flight take-off in A'bad

Ahmedabad/New Delhi: A Diu-bound IndiGo flight was grounded Wednesday morning after pilots spotted an "engine one flameout warning" while preparing to depart from Ahmedabad, officials said. The ATR 72-600 turboprop, operating as Flight 6E 7966, had completed taxiing and was lined up for its scheduled 11am take-off when the cockpit alert triggered a precautionary return to the parking bay. All 70 passengers and crew deplaned safely. The aircraft was also scheduled to fly onward to Nagpur later in the day, but both legs were cancelled.
