Emmy-winning composer likens working with 'White Lotus' creator Mike White to 'toxic relationship'
Cristobal Tapia de Veer says he's checking out of 'The White Lotus' for good.
After three seasons, the Chilean-Canadian composer whose trademark sounds helped define the hit HBO series, says he won't return.
He blames a growing rift with the show's creator and director Mike White.
The three-time Emmy winner says he's "relieved" to have closure after butting heads over the musical score during post-production on the Thailand-set third season.
The composer also says backlash from some viewers unhappy with his theme song for the latest season was overblown.
The season finale of "The White Lotus" airs Sunday on Crave.

DC Studios May Have a Movie-Free SDCC This Year
If you were hoping to learn more about DC Studios' future movie slate at this year's San Diego Comic-Con, that might not be in the cards. We recently learned Marvel Studios wasn't planning on having a Hall H panel for this year's San Diego Comic-Con. Now, it sounds like DC Studios is going to follow suit, at least for the cinematic side of its business. In the Hollywood Reporter's recent Heat Vision newsletter, the outlet claims DC isn't looking to show off anything for Superman or Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow during the annual festivities. The former will have been out for two weeks by that point, and the latter isn't due for almost a full year later, not to mention other projects like The Batman Part II or The Authority seemingly haven't hit any real progress yet. As such, the studio is reportedly 'biding its time before making any reveals.' What will be at SDCC this year, however, is Peacemaker. The HBO Max series' second season is dropping in mid-August, so DC Studios is said to be going 'all in,' said Heat Vision. 'Peacemaker will have a big footprint at the convention. […] And, while DC had no comment, there could be a Hall H panel for the show.' Lanterns, the other big DC show for HBO Max, is currently in production. Depending on how far along things are, it could potentially make an appearance of some kind. San Diego Comic-Con runs July 24-27, and we'll have more information on what DC Studios plans to do for the event in the coming weeks. [via IGN]

Cancer survivor hits 3 huge lottery prizes in 9 months. ‘Odds are astronomical'
A Canadian man is celebrating his third huge lottery win in nine months. David Serkin won $500,000 in August 2024 playing LOTTO MAX. Then, in November, he won $1 million playing LOTTO 6/49, according to a June 2 news release from the Western Canada Lottery Corporation. Now, after buying a ticket from a gas station in Lethbridge, Alberta, Serkin hit again in the May 3 LOTTO 6/49 Classic drawing, winning another $1 million prize. 'I know the odds are astronomical,' he told lottery officials. 'I don't think it'll happen again, but I still like buying tickets.' Within nine months, he's won $2.5 million. The odds of winning the LOTTO MAX jackpot are 1 in 33,294,800, according to lottery officials. 'You check your ticket and if you win, you're happy. If you don't, you can always try again,' he said. 'I'm a cancer survivor and I'm retired, so I am just grateful for all of it.' Serkin said he has been playing LOTTO 6/49 since it launched in 1982. 'I bought this ticket while I was buying gas,' he said. 'I saw the Gold Ball draw was getting close [to the final ball selection] and thought, 'What do I have to lose?'' This third win has left the people around him astounded. 'I went for coffee with the boys after I checked my ticket,' he said. 'They asked to see it and said, 'Not again?!'' Serkin said his wife is also in disbelief, but he plans to take her on a special trip. 'I took my wife to Hawaii with the last win, and we had a great time,' he smiled. 'Now, we're going to Newfoundland!'
