Selangor's economic resilience and upward momentum are further evidenced by a robust y-o-y GDP growth rate of 6.3%, outperforming the national average of 5.1%.
In a statement, Invest Selangor said that this achievement reflects Selangor's strong economic fundamentals, sustained investor confidence and strategic efforts by the state to drive high-impact, inclusive and sustainable growth.

This growth is supported by subsectors such as wholesale and retail trade, F&B and accommodation, utilities, transportation & storage and information & communications, finance and insurance services, real estate and business services.
The second-largest contributor is the manufacturing sector which accounts for 29.1% and recorded a growth of 5.1% driven by subsectors such as electrical & electronics, vegetable & animal oils and fats, food processing, beverages and transport equipment.
'Our continued progress is a reflection of the collective commitment and hard work of all stakeholders from the public and private sectors to civil society and the rakyat. Together, we have built a thriving ecosystem that not only attracts investment, but also creates quality jobs and uplifts communities,' said Selangor Menteri Besar, Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari.
The state's diverse economy saw significant contributions from the services, manufacturing, and primary sectors, further strengthening its appeal as an attractive top tier investment destination with future-ready infrastructure and a highly skilled workforce.
Looking ahead, Selangor will continue to champion regional economic leadership through business platforms such as the Selangor International Business Summit 2025 (SIBS), taking place from Oct 8-11 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.
Now in its 9th edition, SIBS has become one of Southeast Asia's premier trade and investment events, fostering business interaction and matching, knowledge exchange and global partnerships.
'Selangor's impressive GDP performance is the result of long-term planning and targeted initiatives to attract quality investments across high-growth industries,' said Invest Selangor Bhd CEO Datuk Hasan Azhari Idris.

Petros looking to develop CCUS hubs in Sarawak
Published on: Wednesday, July 16, 2025 Published on: Wed, Jul 16, 2025 By: FMT Reporters Text Size: Petros plays a key role in transforming Sarawak into a low-carbon economic hub, said the company's senior vice-president of Sarawak resource management, Abang Arabi Abang Narudin. (Petros pic) PETALING JAYA: Petroleum Sarawak Bhd (Petros) is working on developing two carbon capture, utilisation and storage (CCUS) hubs in the Bornean state. Petros senior vice-president of Sarawak resource management, Abang Arabi Abang Narudin, said the two hubs would be part of efforts to prepare infrastructure to allow for low-cost CCUS. Advertisement 'Sarawak is focused on developing infrastructure. The purpose of these hubs is to provide shared infrastructure so we can achieve economies of scale. 'That way, CCUS will become more affordable,' he said, according to state-owned broadcaster TVS. Abang Arabi said while CCUS technology had long existed, resources needed to be used and optimised to reduce costs and make it more affordable. 'Clarity in terms of policies and regulations is also very important because investors investing in CCUS need some certainty as to how business is done here. 'This includes whether they will need a licence and permit, because CCUS investments are long-term in nature,' he said. He added that Petros played a key role in transforming Sarawak into a low-carbon economic hub. Abang Jo eyes sovereign wealth fund role for Petros Several days ago, Nikkei Asia quoted Sarawak premier Abang Johari Openg as saying he envisioned Petros playing the role of a sovereign wealth fund with investments in sectors beyond oil and gas. The Gabungan Parti Sarawak chairman said he was taking a leaf out of Singapore and the city-state's funds, Temasek Holdings Pte Ltd and GIC Pte Ltd. 'If Petros (has) the strength, the muscle, why not invest in other areas?' he was quoted as saying. He also said this would be more of a business decision by the company than a state government decision. Abang Johari said portions of Petros's revenue from its ventures should naturally be channelled back to the state, since it was fully owned by the Sarawak government. The premier launched the Sarawak Sovereign Wealth Future Fund last year, with the state government to set aside RM400 million to RM600 million annually for the fund. In May, it was given the go-ahead from the relevant authorities to make global investments, which Abang Johari described as crucial for diversifying the fund's portfolio. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? SIP: Operator Selection Made Through Open Tender Involving 26 Companies
SHAH ALAM, July 15 (Bernama) -- Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari has once again emphasised that the appointment of Rantaian Mesra Sdn Bhd as the operator to handle the implementation of the Smart Intelligent Parking System (SIP) was made through an open tender. He said the appointment of the company by the Selangor Menteri Besar (Incorporated) or MBI was made after the Request for Proposal (RFP) was issued and a proper evaluation was conducted involving 26 interested companies. 'Upon receiving the applications, the MBI then conducted a proper verification or screening process and submitted the list of eligible candidates to the state government. 'MBI prioritises the state's interests at the forefront and does not hand over control in its entirety to any party,' he said after the 2025 Selangor Platform Strategic Partner Synergy and Appreciation Ceremony (PLATS) here today. The menteri besar was addressing concerns raised on the legality of privatising public car parks, whether privatisation is allowed (under the Road Transport Act 1987) as public car parks are under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Transport and local councils (PBT) are delegated to manage, enforce and collect parking fees, under Section 72 of the Road Transport Act 1987. Previously, the media reported that the SIP is to streamline the parking fee collection system across all local authorities to be more systematic and efficient in line with the Smart Selangor initiative. The first phase, which begins on Aug 1, involves four local authorities, namely Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ), Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ), Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) and Selayang Municipal Council (MPS). Among the main objectives of the implementation of the system is to raise parking fee compliance, which is currently only around a weak 30 per cent, as well as reduce issues such as double parking and lack of enforcement. The collection proceeds will be divided by 40 per cent to the PBT, 10 per cent to MBI and 50 per cent to the concessionaire company, which handles parking fee collection and enforcement.

Selangor MB clarifies SIP operator selection via open tender involving 26 firms
SHAH ALAM: Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari has reiterated that the selection of Rantaian Mesra Sdn Bhd as the operator for the Smart Intelligent Parking System (SIP) followed an open tender process. The appointment was made after a thorough evaluation involving 26 companies that responded to the Request for Proposal (RFP). Amirudin explained that Selangor Menteri Besar (Incorporated) or MBI conducted a verification process before shortlisting eligible candidates for state government approval. 'MBI prioritises the state's interests and does not grant full control to any party,' he said after the 2025 Selangor Platform Strategic Partner Synergy and Appreciation Ceremony (PLATS). The statement comes amid public concerns over the legality of privatising public car parks, which fall under the Ministry of Transport's jurisdiction. Local councils are delegated to manage parking enforcement and fee collection under Section 72 of the Road Transport Act 1987. The SIP aims to streamline parking fee collections across local authorities, starting with Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ), Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ), Shah Alam City Council (MBSA), and Selayang Municipal Council (MPS) from August 1. The system targets low compliance rates, currently at 30%, while addressing issues like double parking and weak enforcement. Revenue distribution will allocate 40% to local councils, 10% to MBI, and 50% to the concessionaire handling collections and enforcement. Amirudin noted that the percentage could be renegotiated, considering the company's high operational costs, including CCTV installation. 'The tender process was transparent, with 26 firms evaluated before final selection,' he added. – Bernama
