Summer I Turned Pretty siren Lola Tung shines at event... after dishing on her juicy 'love triangle' series

Lola Tung let down her hair at a fun event over the weekend. The TV star was celebrating the grand opening of Crocs' new SoHo store at 543 Broadway. The brunette was stepping out in her new favorite style: the Classic Crafted Clog. Tung wore a powder blue oversized T-shirt with black painter pants that had several pockets down the front. Her Crocs were a caramel brown color. 'Had the best time meeting you guys yesterday and hanging out at the @crocs new soho store,' wrote the Crocs spokesperson on Instagram. This comes after she talked about the third and final season of her hit series The Summer I Turned Pretty. It is a very popular love triangle story that is full of beautiful people set at picturesque Cousins Beach. In mid July she talked up the show while on The Tonight Show. She discussed which hunky brother her character, charmer Isabel 'Belly' Conklin, will end up with. The men who want her are Jeremiah, played by Gavin Casalegno, and Conrad, played by Christopher Briney. 'Season 2 ended with a major cliffhanger. This was a big deal. I mean, your character, Belly, chose Jeremiah over Conrad,' Jimmy Fallon said before asking Tung what she thought about that ending. 'I'm all for her following her heart,' the actress shared as she said she was 'Team Belly.' Belly was careful to not give any secretive plot details away. She continued: 'And she's doing what she needs to do in the moment, and following her heart in that moment and in every moment.' In a snippet shared during the show, viewers see Belly watching Jeremiah play Twister when Conrad calls him. Jeremiah asks Belly to answer and she and Conrad have an awkward exchange. When asked about Season 3, Tung said, 'I think it's a lot more of the emotional rollercoaster you're used to, I guess, and also, you know, there's a little time jump, so we meet the characters in a little bit of a more mature place, I think.' Season three takes place four years after season two ended. While on The Tonight Show Tung wore a John Galliano for Dior corset dress from a 2001 collection, along with a pair of 2013 Dior Mary Jane pumps as she accessorized with Panconesi earrings. In a trailer for the show's third and final season, Conrad is seen asking Belly's best friend Taylor (played by Rain Spencer) for advice about his plan to come back into Belly's life. It's clear he is ready to win her over again. The first two episodes of season 3 of The Summer I Turned Pretty will premiere on Prime Video on Wednesday, July 16. Season three will consist of 10 episodes. The program, which had viewers crying hard enough to give themselves migraines, has become one of Amazon Prime Video's most popular shows. Amazon and MGM Studios' head of television, Vernon Sanders, issued a statement to elaborate on the success of the coming-of-age series. 'We've been delighted to see the passion with which fans have embraced The Summer I Turned Pretty, making Summer Fridays an entertainment phenomenon,' he said. Sanders went on to speak about how The Summer I Turned Pretty, which was created by Jenny Han, had quickly become a fan-favorite program. 'This charming, deeply heartfelt series has shown the breadth of our customer base, appealing to a young, diverse set of viewers. Jenny Han is a gifted storyteller, whose fans have been clamoring for the third chapter of this story,' he stated. The Summer I Turned Pretty is based on Han's book of the same name, which was originally released in 2009. The book was followed up by a pair of sequels that were published in 2010 and 2011, respectively. The series is centered on Isabel 'Belly' Conklin, a teenage girl who ends up in a love triangle with a pair of brothers.

Jesus Christ Superstar review – Cynthia Erivo leads rousing LA revival

Much like its namesake, Jesus Christ Superstar comes with a storied history. There have been at least four Broadway productions and many revivals, tours and adaptations of Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber's 1971 biblical rock musical. Just last month, the UK saw a revival met with acclaim. In Los Angeles's version, not without 'backlash', Cynthia Erivo is the Holy Messiah. Jesus, clad in white cloth and cool white boots, faces betrayal at the hands of Judas (played by a magnetic Adam Lambert). In the first half of the show, as the apostles ask Jesus about his plans, and as lepers ask him to heal them, Erivo's Jesus is restrained and she doesn't quite make the role fully her own: Jesus is composed even in uncertainty, steady even when overwhelmed. But immediately into the second act, after Jesus realizes a disciple will betray him and as he pleads with God against the death that awaits him, Erivo lets despair take over in Gethsemane, stoking a tender touchpoint that makes Jesus feel human but commanding, helpless and then resolute. There is no doubt that you're in the presence of a mastery of art form, of unbridled talent as Erivo sinks to her knees and resigns to God's will – tears filling her eyes, the music simple and her crystalline voice carrying into the night. The outpour at first doesn't feel quite earned but, on true skill and discipline, becomes moving and stunning to witness, enthralling the audience into a minute-long standing ovation. Judas, a juicier role that runs from rebellion to righteousness to sorrow, is a punk delight. Lambert is perfectly cast, harnessing a despair that's mightily accessible throughout: he splits the difference between someone you'd meet at a bar who's got some regrets and someone who was born at the gates of hell. In Damned for All Time / Blood Money, as Judas wrestles with whether or not to betray Jesus and tell Pharisees and priests where he is so that they can capture him, Lambert is a wavering flag, a lilt of evil. After Jesus is taken and Judas realizes the pain he's wrought, Lambert offers in Judas' Death a window into a sorrow we've all reached for before, a glimmer of hope that you're not as bad as what you've just done. Hamilton's Phillipa Soo, playing Mary Magdalene, brings a buttery voice and is a smart match to Erivo's, and governor of Judea Pontius Pilate (Raúl Esparza), a commanding presence. But perhaps because of these heavyweights, other moments are more forgettable: the choreography (especially the apostles') feels relatively simple and fades into the background, and the fanfare of King Herod (played by a last-minute John Stamos filling in for Josh Gad, who has Covid) in Herod's Song could have offered a thicker moment of fun and delight, but Stamos is too much bravado over jeer. The set design for the most part leaves something to be desired, primarily a large screen hovering in the back; on it are graphics that aim to be camp but land more lazily – sometimes more literal camp with a mountain range of REI-type graphics, sometimes Vaporwave-like art you'd find at a Miami DJ set. But the holiness of the Hollywood Bowl venue is undeniable: as Jesus's followers fawn and plead or when the orchestra softens with a solo nigh, a sense of devastation seeps in, the sky above the outdoor amphitheater a deep, navy hue, God's Earth the stage. Despite the unevenness of Jesus's conviction and some rushed ensemble songs, this rendition captures the tragedy of devotion and the contradictions of betrayal. 'I don't know how to love him,' sing Mary and Judas, in separate scenes – and still, you know they do.

'I paid £950 for a 24-hour trip but it was completely worth it'

Julia Lynn, from Bedfordshire, travelled to New York from the UK for a 24 hour holiday, finding times to visits Times Square, the Rockefeller Centre and Broadway A woman flew more than 3,400 miles for a 24-hour 'dream trip' – squeezing in sightseeing, a Broadway show and pancakes before flying home the next day. ‌ Julia Lynn is convinced that the £950 she forked out for the extreme daytrip was money well spent. The 56-year-old jetted off solo from London to The Big Apple for a whirlwind one-night getaway – flying across the Atlantic simply for the thrill of it. ‌ Despite the short stay, she managed to cram in Times Square, the Rockefeller Centre and a cheeseburger at Junior's. Julia, from Bedforshire, admits that some people were shocked by her extreme day trip. Her adventure came after TUI announced a new 'extreme daytrip' from the UK to Lapland. ‌ Have you got an extreme daytrip story you'd like to share? Email webtravel@ ‌ "People called it mad, crazy, bonkers – but always followed it with, 'We're not surprised'. I'm always off on some kind of adventure. I spent years of my life sitting at home wondering about what could have been and things I'd missed out on," Julia said. 'It's a cliché but I think you really can only regret the things you haven't done. What's the worst that could have happened? I wish people were more adventurous – why not just go for it?' After finding a cheap return flight with Delta for £510, Julia set off on 19 July with just hand luggage and her travel companion, Nigel – a plush sushi toy. She flew from Heathrow to JFK in the afternoon with her return flight around the same time the following day. ‌ And she planned the entire trip around one thing – seeing the final performance of Sunset Boulevard on Broadway, starring Nicole Scherzinger. Julia said: 'I whizzed through immigration in five minutes and was in my hotel around 75 minutes after landing. 'I couldn't stop smiling as soon as I stepped out of the subway. The buzz, the lights, the energy – it was like stepping into a movie," Julia said. 'As well as being obsessed with travel, I also love musical theatre, so really this was the perfect combo. I'm a massive musical theatre fan – I've seen nearly 200 shows – so this felt like a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. The ticket cost £200, but it was worth every penny.' ‌ Julia, who works as head of business development at a training company, says she spent £180 on a hotel and around £60 on food, drink and a few treats. She calls the super-quick holiday a 'bucket list trip' and 'super indulgent'. Julia, who once flew to Buenos Aires for two days, says this was her most daring travel stunt yet – but she's already planning the next one. She added: 'I'm already thinking about where I could go next. I'd love to try Tokyo for a weekend or maybe a day in Dubai. 'I've realised you don't need loads of time – just the will to go. If I've inspired even one person to follow a dream or travel solo, I'll be very happy. Travel opens your mind and your heart. You don't have to wait for someone else to go with you – just book the trip. You'll never regret going, you'll only regret not going.' ‌ She also took to Facebook to share details of her journey. The post has racked up hundreds of likes and comments, with people asking for tips on how to pull off a 24-hour adventure. While the trips may be cheap and a great way to see the world, not everyone is a fan. Cait Hewitt, policy director at Aviation Environment Federation, has criticised day tripping, arguing it relies on a very polluting form of transport amid a climate crisis. "The argument that 'the plane's going anyway so it doesn't make any difference if I fill an empty seat' really doesn't stack up. Airlines operate on thin profit margins so will be keeping a close eye on which routes are the most popular and how to adjust their schedules in future only to run profitable services," Cait explained. "By filling that empty seat you could be the person who tips the balance and convinces the airline to keep operating that flight on that route next season, or operating on a bigger, heavier plane than they would have done otherwise. "An 'extreme' day trip by air can generate a pretty extreme level of emissions if you allocate them per passenger. A single long haul flight can have a bigger impact on the size of your carbon footprint than any other activity you engage in. It could, for example, wipe out all the CO2 savings you'd make by going vegan for a year. Given the really urgent need to cut emissions, it would be cool to think creatively about what extreme green leisure could look like."
