Drugs worth ₹6 crore seized from 1RK in Govandi
MUMBAI: Narcotic drugs worth ₹6.03 crore were seized from a house in Govandi area on Tuesday. The Shivaji Nagar police carried out a raid and arrested the 23-year-old resident for possession and distribution of drugs.
The accused was identified as Salman Sheikh, 23. Police inspector Pramod Pawar said Shaikh rented the 1RK kitchen with another person two months ago.
'The neighbours said they did not know much about the two as they had moved in recently and were behaving secretively. Occasionally, the neighbours felt a stench emit from their house and suspected drug use,' said an officer. The police acted based on a tip-off by their informers. During the raid, three kilograms of mephedrone (MD) drug worth ₹6 crore, 12 kg of ganja worth ₹2.40 lakh, 36 bottles of codeine phosphate (Corex) worth ₹18,000 and cash worth ₹1.30 lakh were recovered from the one room kitchen house.
Pawar said Shaikh was booked under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and arrested. His roommate is unidentified and absconding, said an officer.
The police are trying to find out from where he sourced all these drugs, he said, adding that further investigations were underway.

Nagpur: Jaripatka police have arrested a notorious woman drug peddler, Preeti Gajbhiye, during a late-night raid on Thursday and seized 44.93gm of mephedrone (MD) from her residence in Lumbini Nagar. The contraband, which was kept in a ziplock bag hidden in a kitchen container, is estimated to have a street value of ₹89,860. Acting on a tip-off, a team of officers, led by inspector Arun Kshirsagar, conducted the raid at around 11:30pm. "Preeti Gajbhiye, aged 45, is not new to the police records. We had previously arrested her last year for possession of 10 to 12 gm of MD," he said. Mohali: In a major crackdown on illegal animal sport, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) India has successfully intervened to halt 33 unlawful pigeon racing or 'kabutarbaazi' events across 20 districts in Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh over the past two months. The operations were carried out in coordination with senior police officials in all three jurisdictions. PETA India had filed complaints citing the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (PCA) Act, 1960, and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, both of which prohibit activities that inflict unnecessary suffering on animals. They also referenced a 2020 advisory from the Animal Welfare Board of India that declared such races illegal, equating them to animal fights under the law. "Pigeons feel pain and fear just like humans. Using them in races is not only cruel but also unlawful," said Meet Ashar, PETA India's Legal Advisor and Director of Cruelty Response. Habitual offender moved into preventive detention
Kochi: A habitual offender was moved to preventive detention under Kerala Anti-social Activities (Prevention) Act (Kaapa). The action was initiated against Sreeraj, 28, of Mulavukad. He was moved to preventive detention by the order of the district collector. Police said he was an accused in 13 cases across various stations in the district, including assault, Pocso and crimes against women. Due to his continuous involvement in criminal activities and persistent disruption of public peace, the district collector issued a preventive detention order based on a report from the deputy commissioner of police, Kochi city. The accused was previously exiled from the city under Kaapa. He was recently arrested by Mulavukad police for violating the order.
