Gary Lineker was moved to tears as his tenure on Match of the Day concluded with a heartfelt tribute led by Alan Shearer and Micah Richards in the studio.
A comprehensive video tribute was shown, starting with his footballing days that saw him shine at Barcelona. After retirement, it traced his journey as a BBC presenter, where he had the daunting task of stepping into the shoes of the legendary Des Lynam.

Several of his colleagues - Richards, Shearer, Alan Hansen and Mark Lawrenson - all lauded Lineker both as a mate and a presenter. His children also shared their thoughts, highlighting his qualities as a father as well as a broadcaster.

Notable figures like Pep Guardiola and Virgil van Dijk also offered their tributes. Richards stated: "When you think of Match of the Day, you think of Gary Lineker" while Shearer asserted: "He loves it, it means the world to him."

The renowned Italian singer, Andrea Bocelli, also paid tribute, reports the Mirror. He is best known for the iconic song "Time to Say Goodbye."

As the cameras turned back to Lineker in the studio, he could be seen wiping his cheeks with a tissue, struggling for a moment to address his final show. His parting words were: "Let me take this opportunity to thank all the pundits I've worked with over the years, you've made my job a lot easier.
"Rather like my football career everyone else did all the hard work and I got all the plaudits."
After choking up, he continued: "It's been an absolute privilege to have hosted Match of the Day for a quarter of a century, it's been utterly joyous. I'd like to wish Gabby, Mark and Kelly all the very best when they sit in this chair. The programme is in the very best hands.

"My final thank you goes to all of you. Thank you for watching, thank you for all of your support over the years. It's been so special and I'm sorry that your team was always on last. Time to say goodbye... goodbye."

This marks the end of a relationship with the corporation that spans over two decades. He's been a mainstay of the Premier League highlights programme and will pass on the baton next season.

Lineker began the show with a quip, "it wasn't meant to end this way", which could be interpreted as a reflection on the Premier League season or his sudden departure from the BBC. This followed the opening titles featuring highlights from Lineker's illustrious playing career.
The 64-year-old has had several brushes with controversy at the BBC, surviving calls for his dismissal after criticising the Government in a social media post. His outspoken stance on the Israel-Gaza conflict ultimately led to his downfall.
He shared, then deleted, a post from the group Palestine Lobby on his Instagram account, accompanied by an image of a rat. This sparked calls for his dismissal from the Campaign Against Antisemitism (CAA).

BBC Director-General, Tim Davie, stated: "Gary has acknowledged the mistake he made. Accordingly, we have agreed he will step back from further presenting after this season."
Lineker released a personal statement, saying: "Football has been at the heart of my life for as long as I can remember – both on the pitch and in the studio. I care deeply about the game, and about the work I've done with the BBC over many years. As I've said, I would never consciously repost anything antisemitic – it goes against everything I stand for.
"However, I recognise the error and upset that I caused, and reiterate how sorry I am. Stepping back now feels like the responsible course of action."

Danny Jones' wife Georgia appears to snub him in brutal online move after cheating claims

McFly's Danny Jones and his wife Georgia Horsley are said to be 'like passing ships in the night' as they try to move on from the moment Danny was pictured snogging Maura Higgins. Earlier this year, McFly frontman Danny Jones and his wife Georgia faced a challenging period after Danny was caught on camera kissing his I'm A Celeb campmate Maura Higgins at a glitzy showbiz bash. Nearly two months on from the scandal, which saw Danny publicly apologise, the couple, Danny, 39, and Georgia, 38, are said to be like 'ships passing in the night'. The I'm A Celebrity winner and his campmate Maura were spotted sharing a tipsy kiss at a raucous BRIT Awards afterparty, reportedly partying together until the early hours of the morning. Georgia, who shares son Cooper with the McFly star, temporarily moved out of their family home following the incident. ‌ However, she returned after Danny issued a public apology to her and their son. ‌ Meanwhile, former Love Island contestant Maura, 34, has kept quiet about the incident, focusing instead on new career ventures and enjoying trips away with friends, reports the Mirror. As the couple navigate their way through life post-scandal, Georgia provided fans with an update on her 'life lately', sharing a series of photos on Instagram. ‌ The images posted by Georgia show her spending quality time with friends, working on upcoming projects, and cherishing moments with her son Cooper, who is seen strumming a guitar and posing with friends before tackling a Go Ape course. As Georgia uploaded the collection of images, she captioned it: "Life lately... Friends, family, filming, fresh air and fun... lots of lovely fun", accompanied by a blue heart emoji. Yet Danny was conspicuously absent from the 16 photos shared by Georgia. ‌ This apparent omission on Instagram has raised eyebrows, especially amidst rumours that Georgia and Danny, who tied the knot a decade ago after first crossing paths in 2009, are experiencing a 'ships in the night' phase as they work through a challenging period. ‌ An insider reportedly told the Daily Mail: "Danny and Georgia have been trying to navigate a very difficult time in their marriage and for the best part they have been taking each day as it comes. "They may be living under the same roof, but they barely see each other and right now are like passing ships. "Danny is preparing for his summer gigs with McFly, and Georgia has been attending influencer events and collaborating with brands, all while looking after son, Cooper, who regularly features on her Instagram profile." ‌ The source further suggested that when not working, Danny often takes off on his motorbike or hits the gym, whereas Georgia tends to spend her time alone or with family and friends. The couple hasn't been spotted together in public for six weeks, sparking speculation that their relationship is far from typical at the moment. In the wake of the kissing controversy, Danny extended a public apology stating: "Hello everyone, sorry it's taken me a while to post this but I've taken some time out to be with those closest to me. I want to deeply apologise to my wife and family for putting them in this situation. I love them so much and we'll continue to deal with this privately. "I love you guys, thank you for your patience, understanding, and support. See you all soon, Danny." On the other hand, Maura has not made any comments regarding the incident.
