Man Utd, Liverpool and Tottenham battling it out for Bournemouth standout

Metroa day ago

There is a three-way battle on between Manchester United, Tottenham and Liverpool for a player who enjoyed an eye-catching season in the Premier League last time round.
Bournemouth forward Antoine Semenyo scored 11 Premier League goals and 13 in all competitions as he continued to impress for the Cherries.
The 25-year-old signed from Bristol City in January 2023 and has been gradually improving on the step up to the top flight.
His performances have been good enough to attract some heavyweight attention, with Bournemouth now facing a battle to keep hold of the Ghana international.
Sky Sports report that Tottenham and Manchester United are both showing an interest in Semenyo, while he was already believed to be on Liverpool's list of targets.

The report states that the forward's preference is a move to a Champions League club, which will leave Manchester United at a disadvantage, but the Red Devils retain significant pulling power, despite their disastrous last season.
Spurs and United are also scrapping it out for the signature of Brentford's Bryan Mbeumo and whichever club wins that race will have an impact on Semenyo's future.
Manchester United are more focussed on the Bees star than the Cherries forward and it is unlikely they would move for Semenyo if they are successful in snapping up Mbeumo.
Any club wanting to sign Semenyo this summer will have to spend big, with Bournemouth keen to keep hold of a player they paid £10m for.
The Sun reported in March that the Cherries would ask for £75m from any interested party.
Semenyo had a trial with Spurs as a teenager, as he did at Arsenal, Crystal Palace and Fulham, all of which were unsuccessful before he was eventually given a chance by Bristol City.
He used those disappointments as motivation, telling Football Focus last year: 'As a 15- or 16-year-old, you don't know how to cope with your emotions – being so high, being so upset all the time.
'I did have a lot of doubts but I had positive parents. They always told me life's not always going to be roses.
'They are all experiences that you have to go through. But it's definitely helped me and motivated me to this day.'
Appearances: 81
Goals: 20
Assists: 7
Yellow cards: 15
Red cards: 0
Bournemouth have already sold Dean Huijsen to Real Madrid this summer for £50m and Milos Kerkez is expected to leave for Liverpool for around £40m. More Trending
The significant departures mean the Cherries will not have to sell and will not want to lose any further players from Andoni Iraola's starting XI.
Their impressive season under the Spaniard was well observed, though, with Illya Zabarnyi another player targeted for a big move.
Champions League winners PSG are keen on the Ukrainian defender, who Bournemouth signed from Dynamo Kiev in 2023.

Erik ten Hag 'tried to cancel disastrous Man Utd transfer' but was ignored

Antony will go down as one of the worst Manchester United transfers in recent memory after failing to justify his £85m price tag - and a recent report has claimed ex-manager Erik ten Hag never wanted him in the first place Former Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag reportedly tried to stop the club signing Antony for £85million in 2022 despite previously working with the Brazilian at old club Ajax. However, it's claimed the club ignored him because they were worried Arsenal would swoop. Ten Hag bought two players with him from the Amsterdam club when he arrived three years ago, with Antony joining Lisandro Martinez, while fellow Dutchman Tyrell Malacia signing from Feyenoord. Last year he signed his old Ajax defender Matthijs de Ligt. ‌ But Antony in particular struggled to repay that huge transfer fee and was heavily criticised over his inconsistent performances. In his first two seasons in the Premier League, he managed five goals and three assists. This season, he failed to start a game in the top flight under Ten Hag before he was sacked in October. ‌ Things didn't improve under his successor Ruben Amorim, who sent him on loan to Real Betis in January and he now looks set to leave the club in the near future after a hugely successful spell with the La Liga side - which just added to questions of whether it was the Brazilian or the culture at Old Trafford that was the issue. Now it's claimed Ten Hag never wanted to bring Antony to United in the first place and attempted to pull the breaks on the transfer, despite previous suggestions he was key to the move happening. The claim also suggests United pushed through with the move after learning Arsenal were set to make an approach for the player - but Ten Hag still supported him and tried to help him during his time at the club. Kees Vos, the co-founder of Ten Hag's agency, wrote in the book ' Liverpool and the Dutch': "Ten Hag and Vos were not in favour of this and wanted to stop the transfer. "But the club wanted to push through at all costs, because Arsenal was also interested in Antony. The risk of a stronger competitor would be great. Ultimately, Manchester United paid almost €100million for Antony. "Although Ten Hag did not support this transfer, it stuck with him throughout his entire time in Manchester that he took over the attacker from Ajax for this ill-fated amount, who was never able to fulfil his promise." ‌ Antony has been a much bigger success in La Liga, where he has scored nine goals and provided two assists and has become a much-loved member of the squad under new boss Manuel Pellegrini. Betis are hoping to sign him permanently this summer and Antony has previously spoken about how he has a smile on his face again after struggling with his mental health at United. In an emotional interview last month, Antony broke down in tears as he revealed he went days without eating and locked himself in his room. ‌ Speaking to TNT Sports Brazil, he said: "(Betis) changed a lot because i needed to find myself, because of everything I went through in my personal life. As I said, I wanted to do things, but they didn't see to work out because I wasn't happy, I didn't feel that desire to play football, and I needed to find myself and be happy again because playing football was always something I loved. "I went through difficult times [at United] when I no longer felt that pleasure. I even always told my brother, I told him that I couldn't take it anymore. [My brother] told me to hold on a little longer, that things were going to change. It even made me emotional, because they were very hard days for me." Real Betis want further talks with Man United over a deal for Antony - as LaLiga side propose ANOTHER loan with a £35m option to buy

Real Betis want further talks with Manchester United over a proposed deal for winger Antony following his successful loan spell. Betis are proposing another loan with option to buy around £35million. The Brazilian failed to live up to the £86m fee the Red Devils paid Ajax for his services in 2022, providing just 12 goals and five assists in 96 games at Old Trafford. Yet a brief sojourn in Seville in the second half of the season seems to have reinvigorated the player, who came up with 14 contributions in 26 appearances - just five shy of his entire United tally in nearly a quarter of the time. However that could come to help United this summer as they look to move him on, and an upturn in form appears to have reminded potential suitors that there is at least a talented attacker still in Antony. The 25-year-old played a crucial role in Betis' resurgence in the second half of the campaign and starred in their run to the Conference League final, where they suffered a 4-1 defeat by Chelsea. Following the loss, Antony posted an emotional farewell message to Real Betis and thanked them for helping him rediscover his 'joy'. Narrating over a series of highlight clips from his time at the club, he said: 'Today one of the most beautiful chapters of my life closes. And before I turn the last page, I need to tell you why you were and always will be so special to me. 'Since I was little, football wasn't just a dream or my only chance to change my life. As many people say. For me, it was much more than that. It was my joy. 'While others saw football as a way out, I saw it as a way to reach my destination. The only place where I felt complete. I counted the minutes until I could chase the ball. 'Playing wasn't an escape. It was destiny. It was pure happiness. Life took me far from the favela to the world. I left Brazil, played in Holland, in England, stopped being just a kid, and became a father. Many things changed. 'But football, football was always there. It was always my refuge. Until one day, everything fell apart. From heaven to hell. The ball stopped coming in. The joy faded. My world turned dark. And I began to doubt myself, my talent, my passion for football. 'And that's when football gave me something else: you. When I arrived here, I didn't know what to expect. But not even in my wildest dreams did I imagine finding what I found. From my first step at this club, I felt something different. 'It was like coming home, like reconnecting with a part of me I thought I'd lost. With you, I smiled again. With you, I became that kid again. The one who loved football with all my heart. With you, football became love again. True love. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Antony Santos (@antony00) Speaking after the Conference League final, Antony admitted he was unsure over his future 'Thank you for opening the doors to me as if I were one of the family. Thank you for giving me back the joy of playing. Thank you for reminding me why I fell in love with this game. My home. My people. Mucho Betis. Always.' Quizzed on his future after Betis' 4-1 defeat by Chelsea in the Conference League final in Wroclaw, Antony admitted he was still none the wiser. 'I don't what will happen in the future, only God knows,' he told CBS Sports. 'My work is playing and I'm doing that well. I have a lot of affection for Betis, for everyone, but I have a contract with United and I don't know what's going to happen. 'Now I will go to the national team and then on holiday then we will see what happens in the future. I'm very happy here, everyone knows that but I have a contract.'

Arsenal reignite interest in Newcastle and Chelsea target as asking price slashe

Arsenal are showing an interest in Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi again, as the defender heads into the final year of his contract. The 24-year-old was a target for the Gunners 12 months ago, along with a number of other clubs including Newcastle, Liverpool and his former team Chelsea. The Eagles stuck firm to their lofty asking price of £70m and no deal was done, with Guehi staying put and going on to win the FA Cup with Palace. However, the England international's contract at Selhurst Park expires next year so his price tag will be significantly lower this summer. The Mirror report that with Guehi now much more affordable than a year ago, Arsenal's interest has been reignited, although their pursuit of him will not be straightforward. Not only will there be plenty of competition again from their Premier League rivals, but the 23-cap England international may take some convincing to move to the Emirates. Mikel Arteta has established a very reliable partnership at centre-back in Gabriel and William Saliba, one that will not easily be broken. Gabriel signed a new long-term contract with Arsenal earlier this month and the club is working on Saliba doing the same. There is interest from Real Madrid in the Frenchman and the Gunners are very keen to keep hold of the impressive centre-back. That puts in question their interest in Guehi as he will not want to move to any club where he would not be a guaranteed starter. The Athletic report that Arteta wants genuine competition to his first-choice central defenders and Arsenal made a move for Bournemouth's Dean Huijsen before he made his £50m transfer to Real Madrid. Newcastle made three bids for Guehi last summer, going as high as £60m, but could not convince Palace to sell. With a return to the Champions League, the Magpies could come back with another offer as he is now likely available for less than they bid in 2024. Joined from Chelsea in July 2021 for £18m Appearances: 155 Goals: 8 Trophies: 2024/25 FA Cup Guehi has offered little on his future, saying before Palace beat Manchester City in the FA Cup final: 'My only focus is this game. 'My only focus is the fact that I am under contract at Palace. So as far as I am concerned, I am a Palace player.' Last month The Sun reported that Guehi may choose to run down his contract at Crystal Palace and see his options expand further when he will be available on a free transfer next summer. Real Madrid and Barcelona have been touted as possible destinations for the defender if he were to leave Selhurst Park on a free. MORE: When does the transfer window reopen and why has it closed?
