Abu Dhabi introduces digital currency payments for court fees

Khaleej Times21-07-2025
Abu Dhabi residents can now pay court-related fees in digital currency as the Abu Dhabi Judicial Department (ADJD) becomes the first government entity in the Middle East to officially accept the AE Coin for judicial and legal service fees.
This comes under a strategic partnership agreement signed with local financial institution Al Maryah Bank.
With this partnership now in effect, users can pay for a wide range of judicial services using AE Coin — a stablecoin regulated by the UAE Central Bank — via the AEC Wallet. This solution offers a secure, fully digital, and rapid alternative to traditional payment methods.
The implementation of AE Coin in judicial payments sets a regional precedent for integrating digital currencies into government services.
Counsellor Yousef Saeed Al Abri, Undersecretary of the Abu Dhabi Judicial Department, stated that the agreement forms part of the department's broader development strategy.
Mohammed Wassim Khayata, CEO of Al Maryah Bank, said 'It's not merely a technological step; it's about delivering advanced, secure financial experiences that reflect the UAE's values and future vision.'
Ramez Rafiq, General Manager of IED Stablecoin — the firm behind AE Coin — said, 'AE Coin was developed to be a secure, efficient, and regulatory-compliant digital payment solution tailored for the UAE. Its adoption by such a prominent government entity marks a pivotal moment for us and the region's evolving digital finance landscape'.

PIF ranks as world's most valuable and fastest-growing sovereign wealth brand in 2025

RIYADH — The Public Investment Fund (PIF) has been ranked as the world's most valuable and fastest-growing sovereign wealth fund brand for 2025, according to leading brand valuation consultancy Brand Finance. It marks the second consecutive year the Saudi sovereign wealth fund tops the global list. PIF's brand was valued at $1.2 billion this year, an 11% increase compared to 2024. The fund received an A+ brand strength rating, placing it second globally with a score of 62.9, and seventh in terms of assets under management (AUM) relative to brand value — the only sovereign fund to rank in the top ten in that category. According to Brand Finance's annual report on sovereign wealth funds and asset managers, PIF achieved the fastest brand growth rate in 2025. The report credits this momentum to PIF's expanding asset base, positive performance of Saudi portfolio companies, and the maturation of key projects. The fund's communications efforts and commitment to creating long-term impact also contributed to its brand strength. The Brand Finance ranking, launched in 2024, aims to help organizations understand the value of their brand and how it contributes to overall business performance. It evaluates brand strength based on stakeholder perceptions, financial outcomes, and non-financial benefits such as attracting investment, talent, or media attention. David Haigh, CEO of Brand Finance, said PIF exemplifies the branding power of high-impact investments, particularly in international sports. 'PIF stands out through major initiatives such as its transformation of Newcastle United into a competitive football club, as well as sponsorships in golf, tennis, and electric motor racing,' Haigh said. PIF continues to focus on achieving its strategic goals of generating sustainable returns and driving economic transformation in Saudi Arabia. It is also among the most influential global investors in shaping future economic sectors. In addition to its brand recognition, PIF ranked first globally in governance, sustainability, and resilience (GSR) performance and commitment, sharing the top spot with a 100% score among 200 sovereign investors in a 2025 report by Global SWF. The fund holds strong credit ratings, with Moody's assigning it an 'Aa3' with a stable outlook, and Fitch giving it an 'A+' rating, also with a stable outlook. © Copyright 2022 The Saudi Gazette. Phase II of Dubai marine transport station upgrade project kicks off

Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has launched the second phase of the project to upgrade waiting areas at marine transport stations in Dubai. This phase covers five key stations: Al Fahidi, Baniyas, Al Seef, Sheikh Zayed Road, and Bluewaters. The project aims to enhance customer service by providing a comfortable and modern environment that enriches the marine transport experience, said RTA in a statement. It also supports RTA's strategy to promote customer happiness through innovative services that foster sustainability, convenience, and a higher quality of life for all, it stated. The development includes the installation of advanced air-conditioning systems, designated waiting areas for customers and People of Determination, and a series of enhancements implemented in line with the highest international standards. These upgrades aim to elevate customer satisfaction through distinctive and innovative architectural concepts that celebrate cultural and heritage identity. Drawing inspiration from Dubai's traditional wooden abras, the new designs reflect the emirate's rich maritime legacy while showcasing the aesthetic character of its modern urban environment, it added. Khalaf Belghuzooz Al Zarooni, Director of Marine Transport at the Public Transport Agency, RTA, said: "This project forms part of RTA's master plan to enhance the infrastructure of the marine transport network in Dubai and raise the quality of services provided in this sector. It aligns with the vision of the Government of Dubai to deliver world-class services to residents, tourists, and visitors." Al Zarooni said: "These stations are designed to improve connectivity between key facilities and major landmarks in the area. Each station provides a direct link to surrounding residential communities and nearby development projects. In addition, the stations are integrated with other modes of public transport - such as buses, metro stations, and the tram network." "This contributes to smoother mobility for residents and visitors, reduces reliance on private vehicles, and ensures seamless intermodal connectivity across Dubai's public transport system," he stated. "This step reaffirms RTA's commitment to implementing all necessary measures to ensure the highest standards of safety and comfort for marine transport users. The development includes advanced security features, such as surveillance cameras and state-of-the-art fire alarm systems," he added.
