Google wastes no time and releases Android 16 QPR1 Beta 2 with enhanced desktop windowing
For those not aware, Quarterly Platform Releases, or QPRs, include more meaningful changes than monthly security patches. However, while still in beta, Google says QPRs are stable enough for general use. Android 16 QPR1 is expected to launch officially in September, but Pixel users can already test what's coming. The 401MB Android 16 QPR1 Beta 2 dropped today. | Images credit — PhoneArena This release includes a preview of Android's improved desktop mode for external displays. When a Pixel 8 or Pixel 9 device is connected to a monitor using DisplayPort, users can enable a new desktop session from the Developer options. In this setup, the phone and monitor run independently. Apps appear only on the screen they're launched on, and the external display gains a taskbar for pinned and active apps. Windows are resizable, and apps can be placed side-by-side, similar to what you'd find on a desktop computer. This allows windows, content, and the pointer to move between displays, acting like one unified workspace. New improvements include: Saving window size and position between sessions Support for multiple desktop sessions with keyboard or gesture switching Flexible window tiling and arrangement Multi-window support for apps like Chrome and Keep Compatibility improvements to help legacy apps display properly on external monitors These upgrades show Google is steadily building out Android's ability to function more like a desktop when connected to larger screens. QPR1 Beta 2 also fixes several issues found in Beta 1, including: Auto dark theme not working Crashing in Now Playing Camera not launching App shortcuts missing after install Home button issues in app drawer Misaligned 'More wallpapers' button Gemini not working on lockscreen The update is available for a wide range of devices, starting with the Pixel 6 series, all the way to the Pixel 9a . It also includes the June 2025 security patch and can be obtained by registering for the Android Beta for Pixel program. Google seems eager to keep momentum going with Android updates. Releasing this beta right after Android 16 's stable build signals that the company wants to stay ahead in software innovation. While not every feature will matter to all users, the focus on productivity tools could make Android more versatile for those who rely on their phones for more than just the basics. I, for one, am excited to try out desktop mode ASAP.

OnePlus Nord 5 and Nord CE5 launch date leaks
OnePlus is allegedly going to launch the Nord 5 and Nord CE5 on July 8, according to a new rumor from a tipster over on X. The Nord 5 will unsurprisingly be the successor to the Nord 4, which itself was unveiled in mid-July last year. The Nord CE4, the CE5's predecessor, came out in April of 2024. According to one past leak, the Nord 5 will have a flat OLED screen with "1.5K" resolution, a 120 Hz refresh rate, and an in-display fingerprint sensor. It will be powered by MediaTek's Dimensity 9400e SoC, and will sport a 50 MP main camera with OIS, an 8 MP ultrawide, a 16 MP selfie camera, and a massive 7,000 mAh battery with support for 100W wired charging. OnePlus Nord 4 The Nord 5 will allegedly have a glass back and a plastic frame, dual speakers, and an IR blaster. The Nord CE5, on the other hand, will apparently come with a 6.7-inch flat OLED screen with 120 Hz refresh rate, the MediaTek Dimensity 8350 chipset, 8GB of RAM, 256GB of storage, a 50 MP main camera, an 8 MP ultrawide, a 16 MP selfie camera, and a 7,100 mAh battery with support for 80W wired charging. Motorola Razr+ 2025 in for review
We did the Motorola Razr 60 Ultra review, and the Razr 2025 review is underway. Now it's time to welcome the third and final member of the series - the Razr+ 2025, which is exclusive to North America and doesn't have a global version unlike its siblings. Motorola Razr+ 2025 This one sits in the middle of the pack, below the Ultra, above the vanilla. Indeed, it packs some superior specs to the regular Razr 2025 in most categories. The SoC is a more powerful Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 with more RAM (12GB vs 8GB). It lacks an ultrawide but offers a 50MP 2x zoom instead. Both displays are better - the inner one has 165Hz refresh rate, while the cover screen is larger at 4 inches vs 3.6 inches. Where the Razr+ 2025 is below its counterparts is in the battery capacity - it's 4,000mAh vs the 4,500mAh on the vanilla and 4,700mAh on the Ultra. Our Razr+ 2025 features the Mocha Mousse paint job. There're also Hot Pink, Peach Fuzz, Spring Green, and Midnight Blue versions. There's a single 12/256GB config to choose from, and it ships with a USB-C cable. The Razr+ 2025 is $799 at the time of this article - down from $999. We've said it time and time again, but Motorola is truly in a league of its own when it comes to phone colors. The Razr+ 2025 looks unique. It feels great too, with a very grippy leather-like finish on the back panel. The hinge is perfectly weighed - not too firm, but it's not soft and vague. Top marks on hardware! Motorola Razr+ 2025 in Mocha Mousse There's also something to be said of Motorola's take on Android. Some of us would go as far as calling it the best Android skin there is, thanks to pixel-perfect scaling throughout the OS, and lovely visuals. On the other hand we need to mention a gripe we have with the Razr+ 2025. Its display came in a Neutral color profile by default, and it's lifeless - very desaturated and dull. Not a big issue, though - you can put the screen in a Vivid mode to rectify this. Interestingly, the Razr 2025 came in Vivid by default. Our review is underway so stay tuned!
