GSM Arenaa day ago

OnePlus is allegedly going to launch the Nord 5 and Nord CE5 on July 8, according to a new rumor from a tipster over on X. The Nord 5 will unsurprisingly be the successor to the Nord 4, which itself was unveiled in mid-July last year. The Nord CE4, the CE5's predecessor, came out in April of 2024.
According to one past leak, the Nord 5 will have a flat OLED screen with "1.5K" resolution, a 120 Hz refresh rate, and an in-display fingerprint sensor. It will be powered by MediaTek's Dimensity 9400e SoC, and will sport a 50 MP main camera with OIS, an 8 MP ultrawide, a 16 MP selfie camera, and a massive 7,000 mAh battery with support for 100W wired charging. Fresh leak reiterates significant performance boost for Snapdragon 8 Elite 2

Qualcomm's next flagship chipset, Snapdragon 8 Elite 2, is still a few months away probably, but its benchmark scores have already appeared online. Based on these scores, the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 will offer consistent improvements across the board. Reputable leaker Digital Chat Station 'confirmed' that the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 will indeed provide a significant boost in performance compared to the previous generation of Qualcomm's flagship chipsets. According to DCS, Qualcomm plans to implement major upgrades in both CPU and GPU performance. The company's self-developed Oryon CPU architecture provides a nearly 30 percent performance boost, while the multi-core and GPU (graphics processing units) upgrades are also very noticeable. Single core performance score: 4,000+ — up from 3,100+ Multi core performance score: 11,000+ — up from 9,800+ The Chinese tipster also says the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2's Adreno 840 GPU scores very high in benchmarks too. Although they don't give away any numbers, we do have some benchmark results that date from May 2025. Adreno 840 GPU clock speed of 1.35 GHz — up from Adreno 830 1.1 GHz Based on previous reports, the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 is expected to feature a 2+6 architecture with the highest CPU running at up to 5GHz, while other cores will have a base frequency of 4.4GHz. Qualcomm's upcoming chipset will be build using TSMC's third-generation 3nm hasn't yet confirmed when the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 will be announced, but the US chip maker will kick off the 2025 Snapdragon Summit on September 23, so we expect its flagship chipset to be unveiled during the event. The same Digital Chat Station revealed earlier today that MediaTek's flagship chipset will arrive before Qualcomm's, although they didn't offer any way, it's clear that we'll have multiple flagships coming out in the second half of the year rocking both companies' flagship chipsets. We already know that Xiaomi 16 is likely to use Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 processor, while phones like Oppo Find X9 and Vivo X300 will embrace MediaTek's new flagship chip, the Dimensity 9500.

The Huawei Pura 80 Pro+ and Ultra are powered by Kirin 9020

Huawei just announced the Pura 80 family, including a new Ultra. As has become the norm for the company, it didn't reveal which chipsets are powering these phones – officially, Huawei only says that they are 36% faster than their Pura 70 counterparts and that's it. The Huawei Pura 80 Pro+ and 80 Ultra are powered by Kirin 9020 Folks over at Weibo already shared some hands-on photos with the Huawei Pura 80 Ultra, which is rumored to use the same chipset as the Pura 80 Pro+ – the Kirin 9020 that was also featured in the Mate 70 series. The Pura 70 series used the older Kirin 9010. Kirin 9020 is an in-house design from HiSilicon with three Taishan cores: Main (1 at 2.5GHz), Middle (three at 2.15GHz) and Little (four at 1.6GHz). Note that two bigger cores have hyperthreading and run two threads each – this is why some software shows them as 2+6+4 instead of the actual 1+3+4. The GPU is a Maleoon 920 at 840MHz. More evidence of the Kirin 9020 inside the Pura 80 Pro+ and Ultra It's not clear which chip is used in the Huawei Pura 80 Pro – it might be the same Kirin 9020, but we'll have to wait on confirmation for that. As for the vanilla Pura 80, some tipsters claim that it uses the Kirin 9020A, a down-clocked variant of the 9020 with its three CPU clusters running at 2.4GHz, 2.0GHz and 1.6GHz. The Pura 80 and 80 Pro are configured with 12GB of RAM. Storage ranges from 256GB base to 1TB. The Pura 80 Pro+ and Ultra have 16GB of RAM instead and 512GB or 1TB storage. All four run HarmonyOS 5.1. Source (in Chinese) | Via
