
Tawazun Council, ADNEC sign MoU to strengthen national defence events, enhance UAE's international representation
ABU DHABI (WAM) Tawazun Council and ADNEC Group have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at enhancing national level coordination in the organisation of defence and security events, while strengthening the UAE's presence on the specialised international exhibitions.The MoU was signed on the first day of Make it in the Emirates 2025 at the Tawazun Council stand, in the presence of Dr. Nasser Humaid Al Nuaimi, Secretary-General of Tawazun Council, and Humaid Matar Al Dhaheri, Managing Director and Group CEO of ADNEC Group.The agreement aims to reinforce the UAE's position as a leading regional and global hub for defence innovation and advanced technology. It establishes a joint framework for planning and executing key defence-focussed events and unifying national efforts in international exhibitions under the UAE National Pavilion.Dr. Nasser Humaid Al Nuaimi stated, "This agreement marks a strategic milestone in building a unified institutional framework for representing the UAE at global defence platforms. Through this collaboration, we aim to strengthen event delivery efficiency and enable national defence companies to expand internationally under a cohesive identity that reflects the UAE's strategic vision in the defence and security sectors."Humaid Matar Al Dhaheri said, "We are proud of this partnership with Tawazun Council in a collaboration that further empowers ADNEC's role in supporting the national defence ecosystem. Together, we will deliver world-class events and amplify the international enhancing the UAE's international visibility via specialised platforms that showcase its industrial and technological capabilities."As part of the agreement, ADNEC Group in collaboration with Tawazun Council, will oversee the organisation and management of international events and participations on behalf of the Council and the Emirati companies operating under its umbrella.This aims to enhance engagement at major global defence exhibitions, promote the UAE's advanced and leading defence and security industries, and open new markets for these products. It will also provide Emirati companies with the opportunity to build long-term partnerships and attract increased foreign investment into national industries.
This step reaffirms both parties' commitment to strengthening role integration and developing a comprehensive framework that supports the growth of the UAE's defence sector, while opening new prospects for international collaboration in this strategic field.

Sheikh Mohammed travels from Dubai to Fujairah on Etihad Rail
His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, reviewed the progress of Etihad Rail and personally travelled between Dubai and Fujairah. Commercial operations of Etihad Rail start in 2026, and Sheikh Mohammed's visit reflected his commitment to personally overseeing strategic infrastructure projects that serve all regions of the country and ensure their alignment with the UAE's national development goals. Speaking on the occasion, His Highness said the Etihad Rail project is one of the most significant infrastructure undertakings in the UAE, with wide-ranging economic, social, and developmental impact. Once operational, the passenger service will connect 11 cities and regions, from Al Sila to Fujairah, linking key urban centres and communities across the emirates. The project reflects the UAE's commitment to unity, connectivity, and sustainability, while advancing the national drive toward net zero emissions by 2050. Etihad Rail trains will operate at speeds of up to 200 kmph, with the first four passenger stations located in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, and Fujairah. Each train is expected to accommodate up to 400 passengers and serve 36.5 million passengers annually by 2030.

Dubai's RTA opens new tunnel to ease traffic, reduces travel time to 3.8 minutes
3 Aug 2025 13:20 DUBAI (WAM)Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has officially opened a new 800-metre tunnel with four lanes in each direction, designed to significantly improve traffic flow along Umm Suqeim tunnel forms a key part of the Umm Suqeim Street Development Project, which runs from the intersection with Al Khail Road to the junction with Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed upgraded road network is expected to benefit more than one million residents across several major communities, including Al Barsha South 1, 2, and 3, Dubai Hills, Arjan, and Dubai Science Park. Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors at RTA, said: "The project enhances connectivity between four strategic corridors in Dubai: Sheikh Zayed Road, Al Khail Road, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, and Emirates Road."It increases the capacity of Umm Suqeim Street to 16,000 vehicles per hour in both directions, improves traffic flow, and reduces travel time between Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road and Al Khail Road by 61% from 9.7 minutes to 3.8 minutes."Al Tayer also noted that RTA employed advanced smart technologies throughout the project. Drones equipped with artificial intelligence (AI) were used to collect and analyse construction data in real time, enhancing decision-making, boosting site efficiency, and reducing field survey time by 60%."Additionally, time-lapse imaging was employed to continuously track construction progress, increasing monitoring efficiency by 40%," he current development builds on earlier phases of the project. In 2013, RTA completed Phase I, which covered the section from Sheikh Zayed Road to Al Khail Road. This phase included the construction of two bridges, each comprising three lanes in both directions, the first crossing the eastern street parallel to Al Asayel Street, and the second crossing the western street parallel to First Al Khail phase also included the development of two signalised intersections at the intersections of Umm Suqeim Street with Al Asayel Street and First Al Khail Road, in addition to three pedestrian bridges along Umm Suqeim Street to ensure safe crossing between Al Quoz and Al Barsha areas. In 2020, RTA also completed a 500-metre bridge at the intersection of Umm Suqeim Street and the entrance to Dubai Hills and Al Barsha South, as part of infrastructure upgrades for Dubai Hills Mall. This bridge features four lanes in each direction, and handles up to 16,000 vehicles per hour-matching the capacity of the newly opened tunnel.
