A COUPLE have revealed that they are now rent and mortgage free, at just 30-years-old, after building their own tiny home.
Lexie and Jed had hardly any DIY experience when they embarked on their huge project, but still managed to create their dream off-grid home.

They built an entire tiny home themselves
The couple said that a lot of blood, sweat and tears went in to the project, but thanks to a basic five-week building course taken by Jed, they were able to finish it without any major hiccups.
Lexie first got the idea to build the tiny home after being inspired by content creators on YouTube.
"I love caravan holidays and it really fit into my desire to live sustainably and in a small space," she told Living Big in a Tiny House.
Jed then encouraged Lexie to build her own house, as he could see how passionate she was.
The house took a total of one and a half years to build, and was completed just before Lexie's 30th birthday.
The tiny home is two and a half metres wide, eight metres long and 4.3 metres high, meaning that the couple can transport it on the back of a van if they want to relocate.
Lexie and Jed's house is almost entirely off-grid, and is powered by solar panels which they have attached to a nearby shipping container.
They collect rainwater in a barrel to use for washing, and have a compost toilet, which Jed passionately built themselves.
As the couple live in sunny Australia, they are able to wash in an outdoor solar shower.
"It's a great way to have a shower with a view," Lexie said.
Amazon is selling a 'mobile' tiny home for just $9,350 – it's 'low maintenance' and can be easily relocated
Lexie and Jed have made the interior of their home incredibly colourful, which they say makes you feel uplifted as soon as you enter the house.
Their tiny home is situated on a friend's stunning farmland, so the couple have installed huge windows in the house, so that they can admire the views.
The couple added that they feel the huge windows help to make the space seem bigger than it actually is.
Lexie even works from home from the tiny cabin.
Tiny Homes FAQs
The tiny house movement began in the USA before gaining popularity in the UK.
What is a tiny home?
Tiny houses are small, fully-equipped living spaces designed to lead a more sustainable, off-grid lifestyle. Although they vary in size and shape, tiny homes tend to be between 15 and 50 square metres in capacity, made of sustainable materials and are easier — and cheaper — to maintain than traditional brick homes.
Are tiny homes legal in the UK?
As long as the tiny house doesn't exceed 19.8m x 6.7m in size, it is defined as a caravan in UK law. Therefore, tiny houses are classed as legal additional living space.
Can you get a mortgage for a tiny home?
The small size and relatively low cost of tiny houses means they're not generally considered eligible for a mortgage. However, there are plenty of options to take out a loan to fund your dreams of the perfect, moveable home.
"There's nothing better when you're staring at a computer screen for a few hours than being able to look up and enjoy the view," she said.
Although their home is small, the couple have been able to squeeze in a full size oven, a fridge and a hob.
The couple love cooking, so this is the perfect set up for them, although they have had to get used to not having a dishwasher.
"There's something weirdly satisfying about cleaning the dishes," Jed said.
"There's so much satisfaction in being able to look at every nook and cranny of the house and think 'we did that'", Jed said.
"It's really rewarding to be in the space."

10 best video doorbells for upgrading your home security system

Video doorbells FAQs Do video doorbells work with Alexa? Most popular video doorbells are compatible with Alexa and Amazon Echo devices. For the most seamless setup and experience, Alexa users should consider choosing a Ring doorbell. Ring is also owned by Amazon, so the functionality between the devices is more reliable than with a third-party video doorbell. Video doorbells list which voice assistants and smart home setups they're compatible with. Look out for the 'Works with Alexa' badge, the 'Works with Hey Google' (or 'Works with Nest') badge, and the 'Works with Apple HomeKit' badge. Is there a monthly fee for a video doorbell? Most of the bestselling video doorbells don't store recordings locally, but upload their footage to the cloud. This makes them more secure – as an intruder would be unable to access and destroy the evidence – but to cover the cost of storing and viewing these recordings, a monthly subscription fee is charged. Many video doorbells work without a subscription, either by deleting footage after a short while, only providing live audio and video feeds, or by storing their recordings locally. I've chosen the Toucan wireless video doorbell (£99.95, as the best video doorbell without a subscripti on. How do I install a smart doorbell? Battery-powered video doorbells are easier to install than their wired counterparts and can usually be secured to a wall or door using the supplied anchors and some basic tools. Installing a wired video doorbell requires basic knowledge of wiring. Each doorbell will have a slightly different installation, so follow the instructions carefully. If you're not confident, book an electrician to do the job. Some general tips to bear in mind: take a picture of your old wiring before you begin, so you can put things back the way they were, if needed, and switch off the power at the fuse box before you start working (though if you need us to tell you that, you should probably call an electrician). Do you need an electrician to install a Ring video doorbell? Like changing a light fitting or rewiring a plug, installing a video doorbell does not require a certified electrician to carry out the work. This doesn't mean installing a video doorbell is a simple or safe task, however. While there are easy-to-follow guides online, if you want to be absolutely sure the doorbell is installed properly, it's worth calling a professional. Most electricians will be very familiar with the leading brands of video doorbells and can carry out the work quickly and without fuss. Do all doorbell cameras need wifi? Not all video doorbells need wifi, but most do. Some video doorbells have SIM cards and operate on mobile data networks. Wired video doorbells will continue to work like a traditional doorbell, even if you lose wifi. The verdict: Video doorbells The Ring doorbell offers incredible value for money. You get great HD images and most of the top-of-the-range functions at a fraction of the price of some others in this round-up. The subscription fee is fair for the service offered. Plus, I love how customisable the functions are, from choosing your chime to the sensitivity of the motion detection. If you're not keen on cloud-based storage, the eufy S330 looks great and offers quality footage, and the chime box is included in the price.

'Supportive' Crocs sandals that are 'heaven to walk in' now 54% off

Bag Amazon's deal on these sandals that have completely sold out on the Crocs website. As many of us prioritise comfort with our footwear, it's no surprise to hear that Crocs have become popular again. One bestseller for the brand is said to be the Women's Swiftwater Sandals. Hailed as "heaven to walk in", they are so popular that they are completely sold out on the footwear firm's website. Fortunately, we know an alternative retailer where they are on offer for up to 54 per cent less. Usually costing £37.99, online delivery giant Amazon is currently offering a few deals on these lightweight sandals in an assortment of colours, with prices ranging from between £16.07 to £27.99 depending on the colour you buy. The Swiftwater Sandals feature a sporty design that is said to be "all about comfort and functionality". The minimalist design offers versatility, as they can be worn with beachwear, jeans and a tee and much more during the warmer season. Made from a water-friendly material, the flexible, comfortable straps have been designed to be soft on the skin, with shoppers saying that they "don't rub" and are left with "no blisters" after wearing them for a while. Crocs Swiftwater Sandals Product Description The rounded-toe sandals also feature a dotted, textured design along the interior, allowing them to be "supportive" on bare feet, preventing them from being easy to slip off during wear. Amazon currently stocks these Crocs in sizes two through to a 9.5 in a variety of colours such as atmosphere, black, black/white, navy/white and smoke/white. However, we would advise double checking the price and discount before you buy, as this varies. Anyone looking for a similar slip-on style design might be keen to check out Sports Direct's deal on the Under Armour Ua W Locker Iv Sl Sliders that have been reduced from £23 to £12. However, it's not all about the big name brands, as Next offers its own budget-friendly pair with the Chunky Beach Sliders Sandals that cost £18 and are available in two colours - cream and blue. However, there's no denying the popularity of these Swiftwater Sandals, as they currently average 4.5 rating based on over 40,000 Amazon reviews that have hailed them as "a dream to wear" and "as light as air". Fashion deal of the week Looking for a new wardrobe staple that will be comfortable all summer long? The Next's Wide Leg Trousers with linen might be up your street. In fact, they are so popular with other shoppers who say they "can't wait" to wear them when the weather heats up. Available in a selection of colours and prints, there is a pair for everyone. However, prices do range from as low as £22 to £49, but this does depend on the style that shoppers select. Ideal for balmy days, these trousers have been designed in a looser fit than usual and have been crafted from a soft material with added linen. Boasting the on-trend wide-leg design, it's no wonder shoppers are calling them "very comfortable" to wear. They also feature an elasticated waistband that won't dig into the stomach, while two practical side pockets finish the design. A hit for summer, these linen trousers can be paired with flip-flops, loose fitting tops and even swimwear when by the beach. Available in both petite and regular, they can be bought in sizes eight through to 20. Just a few options shoppers can choose from include a basic black, red and chocolate brown, while vibrant patterns of palm trees and florals are also included. Multiple colours of the Next trousers boast glowing reviews, as one reads: "Lovely flowing cut, very flattering. Can't wait to wear these when the weather is better!" A second shopper praised: "Great fit. Very flattering. Can be dressed up or down for day or night wear." Next's Wide Leg Trousers with Linen range from £22 to £49 and can be bought here. One delighted customer said: "I think this is my 4th or 5th pair of these sandals. They are really comfortable. Supportive, lightweight, stylish and so easy to wash. Just run them under the tap. Brilliant." A second enthusiastic reviewer wrote: "No blistering, no slipping. Maximum comfort. Heaven to walk in!!!" It is worth mentioning that some reviews have found the design to be "narrow", with some shoppers having to return them or up the size. One such shopper wrote: "These were too narrow for me. Really gutted as they looked and mostly felt like they'd be really comfy." However, by comparison, someone else wrote: "Fit like a glove. These crocs are a dream to wear and walk with. They are so light and hold the foot in place well. The blue and white colours are also much more striking in reality than in the photo. Roll on the summer!" And someone else remarked: "Just what I wanted. As light as air on your feet. They slip on, no struggling to get your toes through a toe post. I might have a pair at each door at the ready! I am a size 7 and they fitted well. I ordered in the afternoon and was wearing them the next. Good service." Shop Amazon's deal on the Crocs Women's Swiftwater Sandals here.
