
Cheapest supermarkets for Wimbledon strawberries and cream
Aldi offers the most affordable strawberries and cream at 58p per serving, 53% cheaper than the most expensive option.
Lidl and Asda place second and third, at 62p and 63p per serving, respectively.
Waitrose ranks as the most expensive retailer at 89p per serving for the iconic tennis tournament snack, 31p more than Aldi.

The study, by QR Code Generator, compared the cost of 100g of strawberries and 30ml of cream at major UK supermarkets, using each retailer's cheapest own-brand options, to find out where fans can recreate a decent portion of the classic tennis snack most affordably at home.
Sainsbury's places fourth, with an overall serving cost of 75p, closely followed by Tesco, who charge 76p per portion of strawberries and cream.
Both supermarkets charge 63p per 100g of strawberries; however, they differ in cream prices, with Sainsbury's single cream costing £1.25 for 300ml compared to Tesco's £1.30. This small difference in cream pricing results in a 1p difference in their per-serving costs.
Morrisons places sixth, with a portion of strawberries and cream costing 79p, 21p more expensive than the same portion at Aldi.
M&S places seventh, with a higher price per serving of 83p, making them the second most expensive option.
At the other end of the scale, Waitrose was found to be the most expensive supermarket for strawberries and cream at 89p per serving, which is 53% more expensive than Aldi. This highlights how shopping around could save consumers over a third of the cost.
Jo Lambell, founder of Beards & Daisies and author of The Unkillables says: "The pairing of Wimbledon and strawberries isn't just nostalgic, it's rooted in British horticultural history.
"Strawberries were in season when Wimbledon was first held in 1877, and their association with summer, freshness, and British identity made them a natural fit. The addition of cream came later, cementing the combination as a luxurious seasonal treat.'
Their visual appeal also plays a role. The bright red fruit juxtaposed with white cream and manicured green lawns makes for a media-friendly image, part of Wimbledon's brand identity.

Interestingly, nearly all the strawberries served at Wimbledon are locally sourced from Kent, reveals Jo.
'The berries are picked at dawn and delivered to the grounds by afternoon to guarantee peak freshness. This emphasis on local sourcing supports British agriculture and reduces food miles.'
This year has seen the biggest and sweetest strawberries in years, many British growers have reported.

Preferred candidate for chairman of Climate Change Committee announced
The chairman plays a key role in the committee's work of advising ministers on climate targets and reporting to Parliament on progress made in reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The UK Government, Scottish Government, Welsh Government and Northern Ireland Executive all agreed on Mr Topping as the preferred candidate for the CCC role, Mr Miliband said on Friday. Before any formal appointment, Mr Topping will be questioned by MPs on the energy and environmental audit select committees on July 16. Mr Topping is currently a member of the Climate Change Committee and previously held the position of the UK's high-level climate action champion. Following an 18-year private sector career in emerging markets and manufacturing, he worked as executive director of the Carbon Disclosure Project and chief executive of the We Mean Business Coalition. If approved, Mr Topping will replace interim chairman Piers Forster, a leading climate scientist who succeeded former environment secretary Lord Deben in the role in 2023. Mr Miliband said: 'I am delighted to announce the preferred candidate for chair of the Climate Change Committee – Nigel Topping will bring his extensive experience to this role, having already served on the Climate Change Committee for more than two years and as a UN Climate Change High Level Champion for Cop26. Billionaire's wife gets £230m after husband said ‘you'll have to work at Tesco'
A billionaire's wife has won £230 million in her divorce after he threatened that she would have to work at Tesco. The wife, whose name was not revealed, was awarded the third-largest divorce settlement in English history after the Family Court found her husband's coercive behaviour eroded his wife's free will. Justice Cobb found that the husband 'deployed a number of scare tactics' to rattle his former partner. The judgment found he told his wife that if she adhered to a postnuptial agreement they signed in 2021, she would bankrupt the family, and she would end up 'working on the tills at Tesco'. The wife, who was diagnosed with anxiety and depression following their separation, said she felt 'cornered' and 'trapped' by his behaviour, the judgment read. Justice Cobb also found that the husband ostracised his wife from her lawyer, as he 'sought to drive a wedge between them for his own advantage'. In reaching a decision, Justice Cobb said: 'I am satisfied, from all that I have read and heard, that the wife was ultimately placed in a position of obvious disadvantage. 'I am further satisfied that the husband sought to frighten the wife by telling her that he would 'explode' the trusts and that consequently the family would become bankrupt.' The judgment said the pair had come from relatively modest financial backgrounds. The wife said her family was 'very poor' and the judgment heard that the pair began married life with 'zero... absolutely nothing'. The now-separated couple, who have three children educated at day and boarding schools in England, became wealthy after the entrepreneurial husband floated his company. 'Rich beyond our wildest dreams' In 2012, the husband founded a technology company, which led to an estimated wealth of £1.5 billion, which the wife described as being 'rich beyond our wildest dreams'. Six years later, the couple decided to relocate to the UK, due to security fears in their own country and to provide their children with an English education. The judgment revealed that by 2020, the couple's marriage was bound by the country they had left, known as 'Country A'. This meant that all the assets acquired during their marriage were owned equally and subject to equal division on divorce. In the summer of 2022, the marriage ended, and the couple separated before the wife issued an application for divorce on Sept 2. At that time, it is estimated they had amassed a wealth of £2.3 billion. 'A landmark judgment' Claire Gordon, the Farrer and Co partner who represented the wife, said: 'In this landmark judgment, the Family Court has recognised the strain that a build-up of persistent and attritional conduct places on relationships, and that this can ultimately erode a person's free will. 'There does not need to be a 'blow up' event or an interaction for there to be improper pressure or control – the effects of such conduct are insidious. 'It was a privilege to support our client in this case, which we expect to have wider implications for others in a similar situation.'
