Ethan Shaotran
, a Harvard student and AI researcher, has made headlines after dropping out of college to serve in the US government under President Donald Trump.
Shaotran is now part of the
Department of Government Efficiency

), led by
Elon Musk
, where he works alongside a team of six young engineers, most between the ages of 19 and 24.
The team includes Akash Bobba, Edward Coristine, Luke Farritor, Gautier Cole Killian, Gavin Kliger, and Shaotran, according to the Wired.
These engineers have been placed in key positions across federal agencies such as the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) and the General Services Administration (GSA), where they have access to sensitive government data.

In a video shared online, 22-year-old DOGE member Ethan Shaotran addressed the backlash he faced after leaving Harvard.
"I dropped out of Harvard and came here to serve my country. And it's been unfortunate to see lost friendships. Most of the campus hates me now," he told Fox News.
Despite the criticism, Shaotran said he remains committed to the work. "I hope people realize through conversations like this that reform is genuinely needed," he continued.
"If there's one group of people who really have a shot at success, it's the people here. They're up until 2 am, Monday through Sunday. DOGE did not recognize weekends," he added.
Who is Ethan Shaotran?
Before joining the government, Shaotran was known for his work in artificial intelligence. He founded Energize AI, a scheduling assistant for professionals, which won a $100,000 grant from
OpenAI
in 2023.
He also conducted research on autonomous systems at Harvard's School of Engineering and Applied Sciences (SEAS), and was published by IEEE.
He graduated from Gunn High School in Palo Alto, California, in 2020.
According to one online profile, Shaotran had been 'working on autonomous vehicles' at Harvard's Edge Computing Lab—likely where he caught the attention of Musk, who has long been focused on self-driving technology at Tesla.

1 2 Hyderabad: A new species of skink has been discovered in the hillscapes of the Eastern Ghats, marking a significant addition to India's reptile diversity. Researchers from the Zoological Survey of India along with scientists from the Natural History Museum, London, described the species as Riopa deccanensis, or the Deccan Gracile Skink. The finding was published in the peer-reviewed journal Zootaxa and is the first new Indian species in the Riopa genus to be described in over eight decades. Origin and Morphology The species was identified from the Seshachalam Biosphere Reserve in Andhra Pradesh and the Amrabad Tiger Reserve in Telangana. It is characterised by a slender body, semi-transparent lower eyelids, distinct longitudinal dorsal stripes, five fingers and five toes, and 108–109 paravertebral scale rows. It also exhibits eight or nine lamellae on the fourth toe, with the ear opening covered by scales and no enlarged preanal scales. The mitochondrial DNA analysis confirms its placement within the genus Riopa, revealing a genetic divergence of 4.1% to 9.2% from other known congeners. Biogeographic and Taxonomic Significance Riopa deccanensis is the ninth described species in its genus and only the sixth from India. It is the first of its kind to be recorded from the region in over 84 years. 1 2 Dumka: The state govt is all set to introduce Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based technologies to boost security arrangements for pilgrims arriving at Deoghar during the upcoming Shravani Mela, slated to begin on July 11. State tourism department minister Sudivya Kumar, on Friday presided over a high-level meeting with the officials of Deoghar and Dumka districts to review the preparatory arrangements for the month-long event. Around 50 lakh devotees from across the country and abroad visit Deoghar during Shravan month. A significant number of devotees also visit the Basukinath temple in Dumka district, which is famous for being the home of yet another renowned temple of Lord Shiva. The minister directed the authorities to complete the entire arrangements by July 5 and emphasised the need for introducing AI-based technologies for better arrangements, ensuring a smooth and convenient passage for devotees and their security. P rayagraj: A team of researchers from Allahabad University's department of geography is currently conducting a field survey in the remote and high-altitude regions of Ladakh. Led by associate professor Pawan Sharma , the study focuses on evaluating and strengthening the implementation of the govt of India's flagship Jal Jeevan Mission (Har Ghar Jal) in ecologically fragile and topographically difficult terrains.
