At least 2 people shot at Manhattan office building housing financial firms and NFL, AP source says
NEW YORK — At least two people, including a New York City police officer, were shot Monday in a midtown office building that houses some of the country's top financial firms and the National Football League, a person familiar with the matter told The Associated Press.
The person, who did not immediately know the victims' conditions, was not authorized to publicly discuss the ongoing investigation and spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity.
The Fire Department of New York said emergency crews were called to the Park Avenue office building Monday evening for a report of someone shot. A spokesperson said the call came in around 6:30 p.m. but provided no other details.
Police provided no additional information.
Mayor Eric Adams posted on social media that there was an 'active shooter investigation' in midtown. He urged people to stay indoors and take safety precautions if they're in the area.
The city's emergency management alert system warned of traffic delays, road closures and disruptions to public transportation in the area.
FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino said in a social media post that agents and other bureau personnel were responding to provide support to what he said was an 'active crime scene.'

Investigation in Rossmere leads to drug and firearm seizure; two men and woman arrested

On July 20, officers executed two search warrants at a residence in the 200 block of Devon Avenue. The investigation led to the seizure of more than $112,000 worth of illicit drugs, a loaded handgun, and other items. Among the seized items were 129 grams of crack cocaine, 998 grams of cocaine, three grams of MDMA, 18 grams of psilocybin, five bottles of 500 ml hydrocodone, a loaded handgun, an empty 50-round drum magazine, $1,100 in Canadian currency, drug packaging materials, scales, and a money counter. A man and a woman were arrested at the scene. On Aug. 1, investigators arrested a second man as the investigation continued. Two men are facing multiple charges, including drug trafficking, possession of a prohibited firearm, and possession of proceeds of crime. Both men remain in custody. A woman is also facing several charges, including drug trafficking and unauthorized possession of a firearm. She was released on an undertaking.

Man arrested after crashing vehicle into RCMP Quebec headquarters
Montreal police are investigating after they say a man deliberately crashed his vehicle into the the Royal Canadian Mounted Police divisional headquarters on Dorchester Boulevard, in Westmount, west of downtown. Montreal police spokesperson Jean-Pierre Brabant said a 911 call was made reporting a crash at the main entrance of the building around 9:25 a.m. The driver of the vehicle, a 44-year-old man, was arrested but taken to hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries suffered in the crash. Brabant said the driver was first seen approaching the building on foot, but eventually got into his vehicle and drove "slowly" but at a constant speed, into the entrance. Police believe the driver may have been suffering from mental health issues and said he was possibly in a state of crisis. While damage to the building was considerable with glass being shattered at the entrance, Brabant said that two RCMP officers who were inside at the time were not injured.

California man arrested for allegedly sending money to ISIS
FBI agents in Los Angeles arrested 28-year-old Mark Lorenzo Villanueva of Long Beach on Friday, accusing him of trying to provide support to ISIS. (X/FBI Los Angeles via CNN Newsource) The FBI arrested on Friday a man in Long Beach, California, for allegedly sending money to the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, a designated foreign terrorist organization, according to the Department of Justice. Mark Lorenzo Villanueva, 28, a permanent U.S. resident originally from the Philippines, faces up to 20 years in federal prison for attempting to provide material support to ISIS, the Justice Department said in a statement. Investigators said Villanueva was in communication with two individuals who identified themselves as ISIS fighters via social media earlier this year. In those messages, Villanueva allegedly expressed his desire to support ISIS and offered to send money to aid the group's activities. 'It's an honor to fight and die for our faith. It's the best way to go to heaven.' Villanueva allegedly wrote to the ISIS fighters. 'Someday soon, I'll be joining.' Over a five-month period, Villanueva sent 12 payments totaling US$1,615 to two intermediaries who accessed the money overseas, according to Western Union records cited by the DOJ. During his arrest, the FBI recovered what appeared to be a bomb from his bedroom, according to photos posted on the FBI's Facebook and X accounts. 'Mr. Villanueva is alleged to have financially supported and pledged his allegiance to a terror group that targets the United States and our interests around the world,' said Patrick Grandy, the Acting Assistant Director in Charge of the FBI's Los Angeles Field Office. Earlier this year, a 19-year-old former member of the Michigan Army National Guard was arrested after he allegedly attempted to carry out a plan to conduct a mass shooting at a U.S. military base in Michigan on behalf of ISIS. Ammar Abdulmajid-Mohamed Said was arrested on the scheduled day of the attack, after he visited an area near the military base and launched a drone in support of the attack plan, according to the Justice Department. He allegedly planned to attack the Army's Tank-Automotive and Armaments Command, which is located in a Detroit suburb and manages the Army's supply chain for tanks. Prosecutors say he offered to help undercover law enforcement officers carry out the attack by training them to use firearms and make Molotov cocktails and by providing armour-piercing ammunitions and magazines for the attack.
