Urban Meyer adds fuel to speculation of Nick Saban to Cowboys or Giants in 2026
Former Alabama star quarterback Greg McElroy created a huge story recently when he suggested his former coach is looking to get back on the sidelines after retiring last year.
'A very much in-the-know person that I have a lot of respect for and have spent a lot of time around, and just really, really admire — they seem to think Nick Saban is not done coaching. He's pretty adamant that he thinks Nick Saban will be coaching again,' McElroy said.

Since then, there has been a lot of talk about where he could land in college football or the NFL. However, former contemporary Urban Meyer believes that when he returns, it will be in pro football. Not the college ranks.
'I know him fairly well, because I've competed against him. It's not a little scratch. It's probably a pretty big scratch,' Meyer said on The Herd about Saban's itch to return to coaching. 'I don't think he'd go back to college. I don't see that fit… Very little to no chance he would get involved in college. But I would say he'd take calls from the NFL.'
Dak Prescott could play a key role in Nick Saban joining the Dallas Cowboys?
There has been speculation that the New York Giants could be an option if they move on from Brian Daboll after this season. However, NFL insider Albert Breer fanned the rumor flames this week when he suggested — also on The Herd — Saban would listen to Jerry Jones about taking over the Dallas Cowboys job if Brian Shottenheimer disappointed in his first season.
Meyer added to the possibility of a Saban and Dallas pairing when he agreed with Colin Cowherd about how working with an elite QB — like Dak Prescott — would play a big role in luring him back to the NFL.
Nick Saban record (College): 297-71-1
'If Nick Saban can get in that kind of position where he believes this is a future Hall of Fame quarterback or a world champion quarterback, the more I think about it, the more I think he's gonna take that call. I really do… He's a competitor, and I think he'd do very well.'
Saban served as the defensive coordinator for the Cleveland Browns for four seasons under fellow coaching icon Bill Belichick. And he was the head coach of the Miami Dolphins for two seasons. Posting a 15-17 record.

Texas A&M's 'old' offensive line should be the Aggies' offensive catalyst in 2025
Texas A&M's 2025 offensive line is poised to be one of the best units in the country, thanks to its experience and NFL-level talent, which will provide starting quarterback Marcel Reed and the Aggie running game a significant boost compared to last season's inconsistent performance. Throughout the offseason, head coach Mike Elko continued to praise his top seven returning offensive linemen, believing that winning in the trenches is the key to unlocking Texas A&M's offense. On Monday, during his sixth Coach's Night of the summer in San Antonio, Elko continued to praise the group, noting that, during his second-to-last season as Texas A&M's defensive coordinator before becoming Duke's head coach, the Aggies' 2025 O-line is the most experienced unit since A&M's memorable 2020 season, which included an Orange Bowl victory over North Carolina. "It's great to bring back all seven of our top offensive lineman. The last time we were this old at that position, we ended our season playing in the Orange Bowl. It's a really strong starting point to have a group like that." On paper, this is how the starting five offensive line could look when the Aggies open the 2025 season vs. UTSA: At center, Nabou is coming off another injury-riddled season and will contend with veteran Koli Faaiu for the starting job. Notable guard depth includes redshirt freshmen Ashton Funk and Blake Ivy, while five-star freshman tackle Lamont Rogers might be too talented to keep off the field. Another battle is at right tackle, as senior Reuben Fatheree is back for a final season, but will likely play behind Dametrious Crownover. Both are excellent pass protectors, so it will be tough to deny a close to equal snap count. Countdown to Kickoff: James Burnip is the Saints Player of Day 46
Burnip will provide training camp competition for punter Matthew Hayball There are 46 days that remain until the New Orleans Saints open their 2025 regular season. They'll do so at home against the Arizona Cardinals under Kellen Moore as their new head coach. At this time, No. 46 is being worn by punter James Burnip. An undrafted rookie, Burnip is trying to overthrow incumbent Matthew Hayball for the punting job. Here's a look at Burnip's path to the NFL as our Saints Player of the Day. An Australian rules football player at Victoria University, Burnip was recruited by SEC schools Mississippi and Alabama before deciding on the Crimson Tide. He won the punting job at Alabama as a freshman in 2021. Burnip consistently showed great range throughout his career with the Crimson Tide, averaging 43.9 yards per punt over his four years. The 2023 season was Burnip's best. He led the SEC with 2,806 yards, averaging a whopping 47.6 per kick to finish third in the conference and resulting in 2nd Team All-SEC recognition. Leading up to the 2025 NFL draft, Burnip was considered one of the top punting prospects. Florida punter Jeremy Crawshaw was the only punter drafted, going in Round 6 by the Denver Broncos. This led to New Orleans signing James Burnip to an undrafted deal. Burnip was also a second-round selection by the Ottawa Redblacks in the Canadian Football League global draft. New Orleans has had three different punters in the last three seasons. The last two, Hayball and Lou Hedley, were also former Australian rules football players. James Burnip will now have his opportunity to face off against Matthew Hayball to provide competition for the Saints punting job in 2025.
