Heinze spent three years with the Red Devils after joining from PSG - where he played with a teenage Arteta.
The defender has been described by the Gunners boss as one of the "unbelievable players" he played with, and an "inspiration".
Arteta previously said: 'The other inspirations were (Mauricio) Pochettino and Heinze, those two were next to me all the time, behind me, and they were guiding me in everything I had to do in my professional life, how I had to understand the game and they were inspirational to me.'
Heinze will join the backroom staff alongside assistant Albert Stuivenberg, goalkeeping coach Inaki Cana, set-piece coach Nicolas Jover and first-team coach Miguel Molina.

Heinze moved to Old Trafford for £6.9million in 2004 and became a cult hero among fans - scoring on his debut against Bolton.
But a lengthy injury lay-off saw Sir Alex Ferguson sign Patrice Evra, who became first-choice left-back in the title-winning 2006-07 season.
He left Man Utd after 83 games under a cloud after trying to force a move to bitter rivals Liverpool before eventually being shipped to Real Madrid.
As well as winning the Premier League he won domestic titles in France, Spain and Argentina as well as Olympic gold.

Brighton sign Belgium defender De Cuyper

July 5 (Reuters) - Brighton & Hove Albion have signed Belgium defender Maxim De Cuyper on a five-year contract from Club Brugge, the Premier League club said on Saturday. De Cuyper, 24, helped Brugge win the Belgian Pro League in 2023-24, and the Belgian Cup last season. He made his Belgium debut in June 2024, and has earned 10 international caps, scoring three goals. "He has a great reputation for creativity and has shown his ability across different positions, although we primarily see him challenging for a left-back spot with us," Brighton coach Fabian Huerzeler said in a statement. Brighton begin their league campaign at home to Fulham on August 16.

Jamie Gittens reveals two Chelsea stars were pestering him to sign this summer

Jamie Gittens has revealed that two of his new Chelsea teammates were pestering him about completing his move from Borussia Dortmund. The Englishman's move to Stamford Bridge was finally confirmed on Saturday after Chelsea agreed a £48.5million deal with the Bundesliga club. Gittens, who spent time in Chelsea's youth set-up, scored 17 goals and contributed 14 assists in 107 games over his four seasons at Dortmund. Both clubs had been locked in negotiations to try and agree a deal before the Club World Cup, but have now completed a deal which includes a further £3.5m in add-ons. Gittens will be able to play no part in the rest of the tournament in America, but is expected to provide Enzo Maresca's side with some much-needed depth in wide forward positions next season. And the 20-year-old admitted that he had already been in conversation with two of his new teammates who were very keen to see him make the move to Stamford Bridge. 'I played with Cole (Palmer) at Under-16s and Under-18s, and Liam (Delap) the same,' Gittens told the club's official website. 'And I've played against Levi (Colwill) from every single time we'd play against Chelsea in the FA Youth Cup, Premier League tournaments, the lot. 'I had a couple of text messages from Cole telling me to come, the same from Liam, and all of them were eager for me to join.' Gittens spent time at Manchester City prior to his move to Germany, and is the latest product from that academy to join Maresca's squad. 'I think I left England a boy, but I've come back as a man,' he added. 'Before I went to Dortmund, I was living by myself in digs in Manchester, so I've lived without my family since I was 14. Since then, I've developed as a man. More Trending 'It was massive for me. I went there during lockdown – it was Covid times – so I was stuck in the youth house at Dortmund and, during the first year and a half, there were no football games, only training. 'Then I had an injury, so it took me two years to get into my rhythm properly. It wasn't easy being injured; it was tough, but you learn a lot during difficult periods, and after that, it was quite smooth. 'It was lots of FaceTime calls with my mum, dad and sister. Playing with my friends on PlayStation, going into party chat, but it made me better and more resilient to challenges by living alone. 'It taught me a lot about how to be patient and how to keep working without being distracted.' For more stories like this, check our sport page. Chelsea target shock Arsenal star after Noni Madueke agrees transfer

Chelsea are reportedly interested in signing a shock Arsenal star after Noni Madueke agreed personal terms with the Gunners. Madueke has been linked with making a surprise transfer across London despite Enzo Maresca insisting he was an 'important' player for the Blues. But on Saturday, just hours after playing in Chelsea's Club World Cup quarter-final win, The Athletic claim that the England star has decided to move to the Emirates. Personal terms have been agreed but the deal is still someway off with club-to-club talks yet to take place. Madueke is valued at £50million and would be the second Chelsea player to join Arsenal this summer following Kepa Arrizabalaga. Chelsea have already bolstered their forward line this transfer window, signing Liam Delap, Joao Pedro, Estevao and Jamie Gittens – the latter confirmed on Saturday. However, they're not done yet as Fabrizio Romano reports that the west London club are eyeing up Ethan Nwaneri and could make a sensational move for the Arsenal wonderkid. The youngest player to play in the Premier League, Nwaneri has a huge career ahead of him and was given the opportunity to show his potential last season, frequently deputising from the injured Bukayo Saka. The 18-year-old's contract expires next summer and it was reported earlier this week that talks over a new deal aren't progressing well. More Trending This could however be partly be down to Nwaneri's participation at the U21 Euros, where he helped England retain their crown. Appearances: 37 Starts: 16 Goals: 9 Assists: 2 Chelsea are now monitoring the situation but will only make a move for the attacking midfielder if a new contract cannot be agreed. It is said Nwaneri wants to stay at Arsenal but also wants guaranteed game time, something the arrival of Madueke could actually affect. Mikel Arteta's side are set to announce the signing of midfielders Martin Zubimendi and Christian Norgaard very soon and are closing in on defender Christhian Mosquera.
