Teenager with intellectual disability charged with murder

TANAH MERAH: A teenager with intellectual disabilities was charged in the Magistrate's Court here Tuesday (July 1) with the murder of a senior citizen.
Tuan Mohamad Izmal Firdaus Tuan Muda, 18, nodded after the charge was read out before Magistrate Tun Faez Fikhrie, but no plea was recorded as the case is under the jurisdiction of the High Court.
He was charged with the murder of Shamsudin Mohamed, 60, on the side of the road next to a grocery store, in Kampung Buluh, Gual Ipoh, here between 6pm and 6.30pm on June 19.
The charge, framed under Section 302 of the Penal Code, provides the death penalty or imprisonment for not less than 30 to 40 years and a minimum whipping of 12 strokes, if convicted.
The prosecution was conducted by Deputy Public Prosecutor Siti Hajar Mazlan, while Tuan Mohamad Izmal Firdaus was unrepresented.

Kuala Muda police chief ACP Hanyan Ramlan said police received a call reporting the matter at 9.55 am. 'A resident who was hanging out clothes heard loud cries and began searching the area. She screamed upon discovering the baby lying by the roadside. 'Neighbours quickly came out to help, moving the baby to a safer spot before contacting the police,' he said in a media statement today. He added that there were no surveillance cameras in the area where the baby was found. "The baby was taken to the Emergency Unit of Sultan Abdul Halim Hospital for further examination. "Medical checks confirmed the baby was in stable condition, with only minor scratches on the right eye and right side of the body," said Hanyan. He said police are currently tracking down a 17-year-old male to assist in the investigation. "A 19-year-old female, believed to be his partner, has been admitted to the hospital for further examination and treatment. The case is being investigated under Section 317 of the Penal Code," he said.

"She screamed when she found the baby lying by the roadside, and neighbours came out to help, moving the baby to a safe spot before contacting us," he said in a statement on Sunday (July 13). He added that there were no surveillance cameras in the area where the baby was found. "The baby was taken to the Emergency Unit of Hospital Sultan Abdul Halim Hospital for a check-up. "The baby is in stable condition, with only minor scratches on his right eye and right side," ACP Hanyan added. He added that following the discovery, a 17-year-old male secondary school student has been remanded for two days to assist with the investigation. "A 19-year-old woman, believed to be his partner, has been admitted to the hospital for further examination and treatment. POLICE are hunting three men suspected of being involved in a cable theft case after a video recording of their actions went viral on social media today. Sepang district police chief, Assistant Commissioner Norhizam Bahaman reportedly said his team received a report from Telekom Malaysia (TM) at 6.55pm after the 56-second video spread on Facebook since noon yesterday. 'The video recording showed a black Proton Perdana car carrying three men pulling cables at a residential area in Dengkil. 'Initial investigations found that the car used by the suspects had fake registration numbers and the stolen cables were 100-pair overhead copper cables measuring 200 metres long with estimated losses of RM10,000,' he told Kosmo, when contacted. The case is being investigated under Section 379 of the Penal Code. Members of the public with information can contact the Investigating Officer, Inspector B. Sathiyan at 013-2060771 or Sepang district police headquarters at 03-87774222. Earlier, a video recording showed three men fleeing after being caught on camera while pulling cables in a lane at a residential area in Dengkil.
