Baby boy abandoned by the roadside in Kuala Muda, Kedah
Kuala Muda OCPD Asst Comm Hanyan Ramlan said police received a call about the discovery at 9.55am.
"A resident who was putting out clothes to dry heard loud cries and searched the area.
"She screamed when she found the baby lying by the roadside, and neighbours came out to help, moving the baby to a safe spot before contacting us," he said in a statement on Sunday (July 13).
He added that there were no surveillance cameras in the area where the baby was found.
"The baby was taken to the Emergency Unit of Hospital Sultan Abdul Halim Hospital for a check-up.
"The baby is in stable condition, with only minor scratches on his right eye and right side," ACP Hanyan added.
He added that following the discovery, a 17-year-old male secondary school student has been remanded for two days to assist with the investigation.
"A 19-year-old woman, believed to be his partner, has been admitted to the hospital for further examination and treatment.
"Investigations are ongoing, and the case is being investigated under Section 317 of the Penal Code for child abandonment," he said. – Bernama

JEMPOL: A 15-year-old teenager has been arrested by police on suspicion of stealing two packets of black pepper sauce and two packets of mayonnaise worth RM41 from a supermarket in Bandar Seri Jempol. Dead man found in ravine in Tapah
IPOH: A man's body was found in a 15m-deep ravine near Kampung Batu 23 at Jalan Pahang in Tapah. Tapah OCPD Supt Johari Yahya said police were informed about the matter by a member of the public on Saturday (July 12) at 12.43pm. Supt Johari said the victim, in his 30s, was found in a white shirt and black shorts. "The body was brought up with the assistance from firemen and medical personnel pronounced his death," he said in a statement on Sunday (July 13). "The state police K9 and forensics units were also roped in to assist with the investigations. "We however did not find any identification documents on the victim nor near him," he added. Supt Johari said the case was being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder. "The victim was brought to the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital mortuary for post-mortem on Sunday (July 13). "The cause of death was due to blunt force trauma," he said. "Bruises were found on his back and hands. "Fingerprints have been taken to identify the victim," he added. Supt Johari also urge those with information about the incident to come forward to the nearest police station or contact investigating officer Asst Supt Shahrul Shamsudin at 05-401 1222. "The police also want to warn and advise the people to not be involved in any activities that are against the law or cause public anxiety.

Campers mourn tapir mascot killed near MARDI Cherating Agrotech Park
KUANTAN: A male tapir, known as a natural mascot for campers at MARDI Cherating Agrotechnology Park, died after being hit by a vehicle along Jalan Kuantan-Kemaman. The incident occurred around 12.10 am when the animal was crossing the road and collided with a Perodua Alza. Acting Kuantan police chief Supt Mohd Adli Mat Daud confirmed the driver, a 41-year-old man, was unharmed. Authorities quickly secured the scene to manage traffic on the dimly lit road. The tapir's carcass, weighing over 120 kg, was handed to the Pahang Department of Wildlife and National Parks (Perhilitan). Badrol Hisham Mohamad, a local resident, was among the first to arrive and helped alert authorities. He noted that several motorists stopped to assist in directing traffic due to the carcass blocking the road. MARDI Cherating Agrotechnology Park expressed grief over the loss in a Facebook post, calling the tapir a cherished attraction for visitors.
