"Bengaluru stampede avoidable; who will take responsibility for mismanagement?" BJP's BY Vijayendra slams Karnataka govt
Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], June 5 (ANI): Karnataka BJP President BY Vijayendra on Thursday, strongly criticised the state government over the stampede near M Chinnaswamy Stadium that resulted in multiple casualties, calling the incident avoidable and holding the government accountable for mismanagement.
Vijayendra questioned the state's decision to organise the event with haste, saying, 'Who will take responsibility for the stampede? The tragedy could have been avoided if the state government had managed things properly. In the final match held in Ahmedabad, 1.5 lakh people gathered, and no such tragedy occurred there. Why did the state government organise the event with such haste? Why was permission given to hold the event yesterday without proper preparation? What was the necessity of celebrating in front of the Vidhana Soudha? Whether the Deputy Chief Minister or the Chief Minister organised it must be clarified.'
He further pointed out that the stampede had already occurred near the stadium even before the players had left the Taj West End Hotel.
'At such a time, why did the government decide to go ahead with celebrations at the Vidhana Soudha? Even when deaths and injuries were being reported, why did they continue with the celebrations? The state's Deputy Chief Minister went to the event at Chinnaswamy Stadium. At the time of the incident, ambulances were not arranged,' Vijayendra said.
He criticised the state government for ordering a magistrate's investigation rather than a judicial inquiry and accused the Chief Minister and ministers of being overly obsessed with publicity.
The BJP leader also condemned the compensation announced by the government, calling it inadequate. 'They have announced only Rs 10 lakh as compensation. When someone dies due to an elephant attack in Kerala, Rs 25 lakh is given. Then, for the people of our state who lost their lives, Rs 50 lakh compensation must be given. The RCB owners must also provide compensation,' he asserted.
Vijayendra alleged that no precautionary measures were taken to organise the event and demanded accountability. 'The situation has come to a point where the Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Ministers, and the Home Minister must resign,' he added.
Earlier today, Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara inspected the stampede site at the Chinnaswamy stadium. The stampede had killed 11 people and injured several. The Home Minister said that the state government had not asked the Royal Challengers Bangalore or the Karnataka Cricket Association to organise the victory celebrations at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.
Speaking to the media, Parameshwara said, 'We did not request RCB or the KCA, they organised it (the victory celebration). They are the ones who brought the team to Bengaluru. The government also felt it should facilitate this, as it was the Bengaluru team. I feel very sorry that this incident happened.'
Expressing deep sorrow over the incident, CM Siddaramaiah said, '11 died and 33 were injured in the stampede. This tragedy should not have happened. The government expresses deep sorrow over this incident.
'The Karnataka CM further asserted that he has ordered a magisterial inquiry into the matter.'I don't want to defend this incident. Our government will not do politics on this. I have ordered a magisterial inquiry and given 15 days. People even broke the gates of the stadium. There was a stampede. No one expected such a huge crowd. The stadium has a capacity of only 35,000 people, but 2-3 lakh people came,' CM Siddaramaiah said.
The incident occurred near the iconic M Chinnaswamy Stadium, where thousands of fans gathered to see RCB players after the franchise won the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. (ANI)

Senior leader from Maoist's Telangana committee killed in Indravati National Park encounter
A day after security forces recovered the body of a senior Maoist leader after an encounter in Indravati National Park in Chhattisgarh's Bijapur district, the body of yet another leader from the banned outfit's Telangana state committee has now been found. The body was recovered from the encounter that broke out in Indravati National Park in Chhattisgarh's Bijapur district Thursday morning, officials have said. This is the third encounter this year in the national park and brings the total gunned down in them to 45. 'The deceased Maoist is identified as 45-year-old Bhaskar @ Mailarapu Adellu. He is a Special Zonal Committee (SZC) Member of the Telangana State Committee,' Bastar range Inspector General of Police Sundarraj P said. A resident of Urumadla village in Telangana's Adilabad district, Bhaskar was the secretary of the Mancherial-Komarambheem (MKB) division of the Telangana State Committee of the banned CPI (Maoist) outfit. He had a bounty of Rs 45 lakh — Rs 25 lakh in Chhattisgarh and 20 lakh in Telangana. 'An AK-47 rifle along with other explosives, weapons, and ammunition have been recovered from the encounter site,' Bijapur Superintendent of Police Jitendra Yadav said. This is the second significant death in this encounter after central committee member Thentu Laxmi Narasimha Chalam alias Sudhakar, 66, was killed Thursday. Hours after the killing, a group of Maoists stopped a transport vehicle and set it on fire in retaliation. This comes nearly a fortnight after Nambala Keshava Rao, alias Basava Raju, the general secretary of the CPI (Maoist), was gunned down in an encounter along with 27 others in the jungles of Abujhmad region in Narayanpur district on May 21. Union Home Minister Amit Shah has set a deadline of March 2026 to eradicate Left Wing Extremism (LWE) from India. The security forces this year till date have 202 Maoists, of which 185 were in Bastar region alone — Bijapur is a part of Bastar region. This year has also seen the death of 17 security personnel in attacks by Maoists.

Govt approves Rs 23 cr for road projects in city, Muzaffarpur
Patna: The state govt approved infrastructure projects worth Rs 23 crore to enhance road connectivity in Patna and Muzaffarpur districts, said road construction minister Nitin Nabin on Friday. In Patna, Rs 6.67 crore was allocated for the widening and strengthening of roads connecting Kankarbagh road no. 2 to Kankarbagh road no. 4 via Kendriya Vidyalaya. The project aims to ease traffic congestion in Kankarbagh, one of city's most densely populated areas. The development will improve accessibility for local residents and commuters, Nabin said. The larger share of the fund, Rs 16.40 crore, was earmarked for Muzaffarpur, for the development of the stretch from Madipur Power House Chowk to Sakri Path. This project is expected to provide an alternative route for travellers between Muzaffarpur and Patna, helping to reduce traffic congestion and improve overall connectivity. "These infrastructure developments are part of our ongoing efforts to strengthen the state's road network," the minister said. He emphasised that the projects align with CM Nitish Kumar's vision of ensuring smooth transportation facilities for Bihar residents. "The approved works include road rehabilitation, widening and strengthening, which will be executed under the supervision of the road construction department (RCD)," he said. The minister added that similar development initiatives are being implemented across various districts of the state to enhance the state's transportation infrastructure. He added, "These projects are expected to be completed in a timely manner and will contribute significantly to the region's economic growth by improving logistics and transportation efficiency." 12 Maoists with Rs 1.1 crore bounty surrender before CM in Gadchiroli
Twelve Maoist cadres, collectively carrying a bounty of Rs 1.12 crore, surrendered before Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis during his visit to Gadchiroli on Friday. Two surrendered in their uniform along with an AK-47 rifle and other weapons. Fadnavis was on an official visit to the district. He reviewed security operations at the newly established Police Station at Kawande in Bhamragad sub-division, on the Maharashtra-Chhattisgarh border, which was set up in March last year. On the deadline to eliminate Naxalism, he said, 'Under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah has pledged that we will make the country Naxal-free by March 2026. So, good work is going on on that front. Maharashtra has taken this to its last stretch. But the problem was that large-scale recruitment took place in Chhattisgarh, and Maoists came from there to carry out their operations here in Gadchiroli. Now, the new government in Chhattisgarh, in collaboration with the Centre, has broken the back of the Maoists. Soon, we will fill the security vacuum in the entire area, there will be Police dominance, and we will be able to achieve this by March 2026.' The CM also flagged off 19 new four-wheelers provided to Gadchiroli Police by the District Planning Committee for anti-Maoist operations. According to official data, 55 Maoists have laid down arms in Gadchiroli since 2022, 34 of them in 2025 alone.
