EXCLUSIVE The secret A-list insider working to reunite Dakota Johnson and Chris Martin after their shock split

Daily Mail3 days ago
It was the perfect pairing: a handsome British singer and a glamorous Hollywood star – and for eight years, Chris Martin and Dakota Johnson seemed on course for a happy ending.
But three weeks ago, sources close to the former couple confirmed the pair's love story had flamed out – leaving Dakota 'devastated'.
Now the Daily Mail can reveal one person still hasn't given up on the couple – the actress's mom Melanie Griffith who thinks the split is a 'huge mistake' and is working behind the scenes to bring them back together.
A well-placed source told the Daily Mail: 'Melanie is desperately working behind the scenes to save Dakota's strained relationship with Chris.
'She's convinced that they are meant to be together and isn't giving up on them. She thinks her daughter is making a huge mistake and needs to meet Chris halfway.
'Melanie has always felt a kinship with Chris, he's like a son to her.'
Dad-of-two Martin, 48, and acting royalty Dakota, 35, were first spotted together in 2017 and were most recently seen in May.
The relationship had weathered multiple break-ups and make-ups according to sources, and the pair reportedly even became engaged in 2020.
Dakota – whose dad is movie icon Don Johnson – even became close to Martin's two children, Apple and Moses, who he had with ex-wife Gwyneth Paltrow.
Last year, she told glossy magazine Bustle: 'I love those kids like my life depends on it. With all my heart.'
But that wasn't enough to prevent trouble in paradise with sources telling the Daily Mail that the pair had been having 'the same issues for some time'.
While the couple themselves have called time, Griffith, 67, has refused to concede defeat and is now badgering the pair to get relationship therapy, as well as woo-woo 'energy work' in a bid to get them back on track.
An insider dished: 'Melanie has been seeking advice from her friends in the healing community, mostly in the Malibu area.
'She's been trying to get Dakota and Chris to work with a non-traditional couple's therapist who incorporates energy work to help detect and detach generational trauma.
'She said all they need is some laser focus guidance to set them straight once and for all.'
But while Griffith – who has a checkered relationship history of her own that includes divorcing Johnson twice and a high-profile marriage to actor Antonio Banderas – is dead set on saving Dakota's relationship, she is nervous of appearing 'meddlesome'.
The insider added: 'Melanie doesn't want to be the meddlesome mother, but she has years of recovery and practices a solid spiritual program.
'She said she's coming from a place of authentic love for her daughter, rather than control.
'She wants them both to be happy, if they'd just leave their egos at the door and lead with their hearts.'
That may be a tall order at the moment with rocker Martin currently touring with his band Coldplay while Dakota has been promoting her ironically named comedy Splitsville.
As a result, sources say the pair have been leading increasingly separate lives with Martin playing dates in Las Vegas, Denver, and El Paso in the last three weeks alone.
Also on the schedule are stops in Toronto, Nashville, and Miami next month, plus a succession of August dates at London's Wembley Stadium and a two-night stop in the down-at-heel Yorkshire town of Hull.
Johnson is also promoting a second movie – romantic comedy Materialists in which she stars opposite Chris Evans and Pedro Pascal.
The movie was released amid the split drama on June 13 and has grossed $24million in the US and Canada to date and $7million worldwide.

Kneecap chants ‘f*** Keir Starmer' in another foul rant just days after sparking police probe at Glastonbury

RAPPERS Kneecap called out Keir Starmer for saying the group should be banned from Glastonbury Festival. The hip-hop group, from Belfast, Northern Ireland, spoke at London's Finsbury Park today - a week after performing at Glastonbury Festival. 6 6 6 6 It came after the PM told The Sun on Sunday last month that the Irish trio should be banned from the music festival after a band member was charged with a terror offence. Rapper Liam Og O hAnnaidh told the crowd yesterday: 'Keir Starmer gave an interview with The Sun saying we shouldn't be playing Glastonbury - so f**k Keir Starmer.' 'F**k Keir Starmer - you're just a s**t Jeremy Corbyn.' Bandmate Naoise O Caireallain added: 'We appreciate all of this f*****g mad energy that we are getting in Finsbury Park. 'Look, they tried to stop us playing Glastonbury, and they f*****g couldn't. 'They tried to stop us playing in Cornwall, and they f*****g couldn't stop that either." Sir Keir Starmer told The Sun last month that it was 'not appropriate' for the Irish group to cash in at the festival. Og O hAnnaidh, 27, who goes by the stage name Mo Chara, appeared in court last month, accused of displaying a flag in support of banned terror group Hezbollah at a gig. He was bailed until later in the summer — leaving him free to play at Glastonbury. Asked by The Sun on Sunday if he thought Kneecap should play at Glastonbury, the PM said: 'No I don't. Prime Minister Keir Starmer calls for Glastonbury to axe Kneecap from the line-up 'I think we need to come down really clearly on this. I won't say too much, because there's a court case on, but I don't think that's appropriate.' During Kneecap's performance at Glastonbury, the group took to the stage and led a "free Palestine" chant before leading five chants against the Prime Minister. Meanwhile, Bobby Vylan - frontman of English punk-rap duo Bob Vylan - chanted "death, death to the IDF" and other alleged anti-Semitic slurs on the West Holts stage last Saturday. The BBC were slammed for broadcasting performance on live TV, including by PM Keir Starmer himself. Avon and Somerset Police confirmed on Monday that cops are investigating Kneecap and Bob Vylan after video and audio footage was examined. Posting on X, the force said: "Video footage and audio from Bob Vylan and Kneecap's performances at Glastonbury Festival has been reviewed. "Following the completion of that assessment process we have decided further enquiries are required and a criminal investigation is now being undertaken. "A senior detective has been appointed to lead this investigation. "This has been recorded as a public order incident at this time while our enquiries are at an early stage." The force confirmed that it had received a "large amount" of contact from across the world about the controversial performances. The Sun has contacted Avon and Somerset Police. 6 6

Novak Djokovic breezes past fellow Serb Miomir Kecmanovic to earn 100th Wimbledon victory

NOVAK DJOKOVIC notched his Wimbledon century to reach the fourth round. The seven-time champion, 38, breezed past compatriot Miomir Kecmanovic and became just the third player in Wimbledon history to register 100 SW19 victories. 5 5 Djokovic now joins Roger Federer and Martina Navratilova in that exclusive club, earning his 100th win with some precision serving and lung-busting rallies. Winning an eighth title would take Djokovic to 104 wins, one short of Federer. His old rival is also the only man to have reached the last 16 (18 times) more often than Djokovic, who is into the second week for a 17th time. After a testy first set against former Davis Cup team-mate Kecmanovic, the Serb veteran rattled through the gears to win 6-3, 6-0, 6-4. The two Serbian stars stuck to serve in an opening set which took a while to burst into life. A couple of late games sparked the fire, with both looking to batter the baseline through some stunning rallies, while also getting cute near the net. Having battled brilliantly against his idol throughout that first set, Kecmanovic was steam-rolled in the second as Djokovic put on one of the performances of the Championships. Djokovic broke early again in the third set, ruthlessly dismantling the World No49. 5 5 The Serb, pursuing a record breaking 25th Grand Slam, has reached the past six finals at Wimbledon. He will face Aussie Alex de Minaur, fiance of current British No1, Katie Boulter in the fourth round on Monday.
