Freakier Friday movie review: Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis reunite for chaotic sequel
3/5 stars Freakier Friday, the somewhat belated, uninhibited sequel to 2003's body-swap comedy Freaky Friday, reunites Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan as the mother and daughter who previously got to experience what it is like to be the other person. This time, the body-swap madness is multiplied, although bigger does not necessarily mean better. It certainly means more confusion, with viewers frequently left wondering who is who. Lohan's Anna is now a single mother herself, to teen daughter Harper (Julia Butters). She is also on the verge of walking down the aisle with Eric (Manny Jacinto), an expat who also has a daughter, Lily, (Sophia Hammons) in the ninth grade with Harper. Anna and Eric want to move the family to London after the wedding, a plan causing consternation and conflict with their offspring. Play Then, after an encounter with a fortune-teller (Vanessa Bayer), the transfer happens again – only this time, bodies are swapped between Anna and Harper, and Anna's mother Tess (Curtis) and Lily.

Teenage boy and girl jailed in UK for the ‘sadistic' torture and killing of kittens
A UK judge on Monday sentenced two 17-year-old teenagers – a boy and a girl – respectively to one year and nine months in detention for the 'sadistic' torture and killing of two kittens. The boy had also wanted to kill a human and researched how to 'get away with murder', according to the prosecutor at London's Highbury Corner Youth Court. Two kittens were found cut open with ropes attached to them in a park in northwest London in May. Both kittens had pieces of flesh and fur apparently burned off them. Police also found knives, blowtorches and scissors at the scene. The two teenagers pleaded guilty to possessing a knife and causing unnecessary suffering to the animals. Neither can be named for legal reasons. I really wanted to murder someone. Every day I was researching how to get away with murder British teenager jailed for torturing and killing kittens District judge Hina Rai said the killings were 'without doubt the most awful offences against animals I have seen in this court'.

Taiwan family of 5 perish in landslide; son survives after staying home to care for grandpa
A tragic accident in southern Taiwan has evoked widespread sympathy after a car carrying five family members plunged into a valley, claiming all their lives – including a baby and the father, who initially escaped from the vehicle but lost his life in a desperate attempt to save his family. The only survivor was the family's 14-year-old son, who had stayed home to care for his grandfather and consequently avoided the ill-fated trip. The incident occurred on July 30 in the Taoyuan District of Kaohsiung, when a car carrying a 33-year-old man, surnamed Li, his 37-year-old wife, surnamed Wu, and their three children – including a 17-year-old daughter, a three-year-old son, and a one-month-old baby girl – plunged nine metres into a mountain ravine. Rescuers subsequently recovered the bodies of the father and his 17-year-old daughter, and efforts are ongoing to locate the remaining missing family members. Photo: Handout The road had been severely eroded due to days of continuous heavy rainfall. At the time of the accident, it was pouring rain and visibility was extremely low, exacerbating the hazardous conditions. Life had already been challenging for the family. Li worked as a mould maker, while Wu took on various odd jobs to support their children. Their 17-year-old daughter had just undergone surgery and rehabilitation in May following a bicycle accident. The family was on their way down from their mountain home for follow-up medical appointments, including a check-up for their one-month-old infant. During the tragedy, Li initially managed to escape from the vehicle and climbed out of the valley to seek help three times, as reported by Taiwan EBC News. The first time, when the vehicle was still stranded, he asked a nearby driver to use headlights to illuminate the scene. The second time, he begged rescuers to save the children still trapped in the car.
