Demand for sacrificial livestock surges ahead of Aidiladha

KUALA LUMPUR: The demand for livestock for sacrificial worship in conjunction with Hari Raya Aidiladha has continued to rise this year.
According to Buletin Utama, a visit to a livestock farm in Serendah, Selangor, found that nearly 1,000 cows had already been booked.
"During the month of Zulhijjah, we receive many bookings for cows. The supply is sufficient," said breeder Mohd Zukri Abd Jalil.
"No matter the situation, the spirit to perform the ritual and demonstrate sacrifice remains strong."
He added that orders come from a wide range of customers, especially mosques, surau, NGOs, and individual buyers.
Some placed their orders as early as five months ago, while others collectively pool funds to fulfil their religious obligation.
This farm is also among 40 premises licensed by the Veterinary Services Department (DVS) to offer slaughtering services for ritual sacrifice.
"We go through all the processes required by the DVS, such as health checks, transport permits, and slaughter permits.
"All of these are prioritised so we are in accordance with procedures and Islamic principles," said Zukri.
On Tuesday, the Agriculture and Food Security Ministry said a total of 38,804 cows and buffaloes, along with 30,167 goats and sheep, will be available for ritual sacrifices during Aidiladha.
The ministry said the estimated demand for sacrificial rituals is 34,451 cows and buffaloes, and 22,453 goats and sheep.
It expects the livestock supply for this year's celebration across Malaysia to meet demand.

Volunteers share experiences in korban journey programme in Cambodia

KAMPOT (Cambodia): Nervous and relieved were among the feelings of a Bank Rakyat volunteer when he performed the sacrificial ritual (korban) for the first time during the Hari Raya Aidiladha celebration through the Kembara Korban Cambodia 2025 programme in Kampung Keh here. Muhammad Haziq Mohamad Fahmi, 21, however, said that the feeling of nervousness was overcome, thanks to the guidance of the Yayasan As-Shafiee staff who demonstrated the correct methods and techniques for slaughtering cows. The Diploma in Computer Science graduate from Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) performed the sacrificial ritual on behalf of the depositors of the Bank Rakyat i-Qurban Savings Account and their families. 'I am happy to have had this is a special opportunity for me to practice this worship on my own, while also contributing to the Muslim community in Cambodia,' he told Bernama. Meanwhile, another volunteer, Aswadi Kamardin, 49, appeared nimble in handling the slaughtering duties due to his frequent involvement in that activity in his residential area during Aidiladha. Aswadi said the atmosphere during the sacrificial worship in Cambodia was very lively, with the involvement of the community. 'If in Malaysia most of the slaughtering programmes during Aidiladha are attended by mosque-goers, then here many residents come and compete to contribute their efforts from the slaughtering to the butchering process,' he said. They are among the 21 individuals involved in the programme aimed at serving the rural communities in Cambodia to fulfil the sacrificial rites and distribute aid to the Muslim community in the country. Previously, a delegation of Bank Rakyat volunteers, along with the residents, sacrificed 10 cows in Kampung Trapenh Pinh and 36 cows in Kampung Keh. After the sacrificial activities in both villages, volunteers with the help of the local residents distributed more than 3,500 kilogrammes of meat to the Muslim community in several villages in Kampot, including Kampung Samraong, Kampung Triek, Kampung Kandal and Kampung Prey Thnong.

Johor royal family donates 230 cows for 'korban' in conjunction with Aidiladha

JOHOR BARU: The Johor royal family graciously donated 230 cows for ibadah korban (ritual sacrifice) for distribution to those in need in conjunction with Hari Raya Aidiladha. Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz said this bestowal not only eases the burden of the recipients but also ignites the spirit of sacrifice, sincerity, and compassion among the people of Johor. He said it embodied the true spirit of Aidiladha — fostering stronger bonds and extending support to those in need. "We express our highest gratitude for the gracious consent of His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia and Her Majesty the Raja Permaisuri Agong Raja Zarith Sofiah, the Regent of Johor Tunku Mahkota Ismail, and the entire Johor royal family for the bestowal of 230 sacrificial cows to the people of Johor, especially to those in need, in conjunction with the celebration of Hari Raya Aidiladha 1446H/2025M. "We, along with all the people, especially the residents of Machap and Simpang Renggam, always pray that Your Majesties and family will always be under the protection and blessings of Allah SWT, granted prolonged health, extended lifespan, and continue to lead the state of Johor Darul Ta'zim and the nation of Malaysia with full wisdom, peace, and prosperity," he said via a post on Facebook today.
