David Schwimmer looks downcast at theatre event in NYC after his Friends co-star Matthew Perry's 'Ketamine Queen' drug dealer pleaded guilty to supplying star's fatal dose
The Friends actor, 58, stepped out as his former co-star Matthew Perry's 'Ketamine Queen' drug dealer took a plea deal for supplying the star's fatal dose.
Jasveen Sangha made a guilty plea deal in connection with the October 2023 drug overdose death of Matthew at 54.
Sangha was initially facing a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years in federal prison, a source close to the case told the Daily Mail exclusively.
Under the plea agreement, that mandatory minimum has been lifted, allowing Sangha to potentially receive a sentence less than 10 years for her role in the death of Perry, whose life was recently chronicled in the documentary Matthew Perry: A Hollywood Tragedy.
For the theatre David cut a casual figure in a black denim jacket and cap and looked in a sombre mood.
David and Matthew worked together for 10 years on Friends and David paid tribute to his 'generous' friend after his tragic death.
Matthew was found dead face down in his jacuzzi back on October 29, 2023, leaving Hollywood shaken to its core after he bravely shared details of his addiction struggles with the public to dissuade others from following a similar path.
Months later, a medical examiner determined that the actor - who had battled substance abuse issues throughout his life - had died of 'acute effects of ketamine.'
Legal analyst and federal criminal defense attorney Lou Shapiro told the Daily Mail he wasn't surprised Sangha decided to take the plea deal, especially since her co-defendants had done so earlier.
'When you look at the overwhelming evidence against her and what they found at her place alone — the drugs, the manufacturing equipment and the money — and tons of it, she was basically toast,' Shapiro said. 'There was nowhere for her to go. It wasn't if she was going to take the deal, it was a matter of just when.'
Shapiro added: 'Even if you don't intentionally try to harm somebody or cause them great bodily injury or death, the mere fact that you are engaging in a conduct that is very likely going to result in death, you're going to be held accountable for it.'
Shapiro said any arguments presented would have quickly crumbled under legal scrutiny: 'You can't look the other way and say, 'I was just selling it. I was doing him a favor.' That is not going to fly.
Shapiro added, 'This also sends a big message to the medical industry that doctors will be held fully accountable for death to bodily injury that results in their patients when they are merely prescribing drugs.
'These doctors knew what was going on and they fully participated in supplying Matthew Perry with as much ketamine as he wanted.'
Shapiro cited court records in which the doctors themselves marveled at the extent of Perry's addiction and lengths he was willing to go to in his quest to get his next fix.
'They even called him an 'idiot' at one point in their text messages,' Shapiro said. 'I think the medical community also will look at this as a tragedy for the loss of life but also, they are people who worked hard to become medical professionals.
'Instead, these doctors threw all of that away for greed.'
A sentencing hearing for Sangha 'is expected to occur in the coming months,' United States Attorney Bilal A. Essayli of California's Central District said in a statement obtained by Daily Mail on Monday.
'Upon entering her guilty plea, Sangha will face at her sentencing hearing,' Essayli said, 'a statutory maximum sentence of 20 years in federal prison on the drug-involved premises count.'
Sangha faces 'up to 10 years in federal prison for each ketamine distribution count ... and up to 15 years in federal prison for the count of distribution of ketamine resulting in death or serious bodily injury,' the prosecutor said.
The prosecutor noted that in October 2023, 'Sangha and Fleming sold Perry 51 vials of ketamine, which were provided' to Perry's live-in personal assistant Kenneth Iwamasa.
Sangha sought to engage in a cover-up with another person involved in the scheme, Perry pal Erik Fleming, 55, 'after learning from news reports of Perry's death,' the prosecutor said.
Essayli said Monday that 'Sangha called Fleming on Signal to discuss how to distance themselves from it' following Perry's passing in the fall of 2023.
The prosecutor continued: 'That day, Sangha updated the settings on the Signal apps to automatically delete her messages with Fleming. She further instructed Fleming to 'Delete all our messages.''
Essayli said that 'two days after Perry's death, Fleming left Sangha a voicemail on Signal and texted, 'Please call . . . Got more info and want to bounce ideas off you. I'm 90% sure everyone is protected. I never dealt with [Perry]. Only his assistant.
'So the assistant was the enabler. Also they are doing a three-month tox screening ... Does [ketamine] stay in your system or is it immediately flushed out[?].''
According to the prosecutor, Sangha also admitted to selling four vials of ketamine to another victim of a fatal overdose in August 2019, Cody McLaury.
The prosecutor said that Sangha admit in her plea deal to possessing drugs she intended to sell at her home in North Hollywood residence.
'In March 2023, law enforcement searched the residence,' according to Essayli. 'and found 1.7 kilograms of pressed pills containing methamphetamine, 79 vials of liquid ketamine, MDMA (Ecstasy) tablets [and] counterfeit Xanax pills.'
Also recovered were 'the baggies containing powdered ketamine and cocaine, and other drug trafficking items such as a gold money counting machine, a scale, a wireless signal and hidden camera detector, drug packaging materials, and $5,723 in cash,' the prosecutor said.
In June, another medical professional charged in the case, Dr. Salvador Plasencia, agreed to plead guilty to four counts of ketamine distribution in the case.
Plasencia had also been charged with prosecutors with altering and falsifying documents or records in connection with the federal probe.
With the expected guilty plea, Plasencia joined three others who had pleaded guilty in connection with the tragic death of the TV star.
They include: Dr. Mark Chavez; Perry's assistant Kenneth Iwamasa and Erik Fleming, who was an acquaintance of the Friends star.

BRYAN Kohberger would have grounds to sue over alleged leaked footage of him alone in his jail cell, an expert has claimed. The clip was published and widely shared on Reddit and other social media platforms on Friday, appearing to show the Idaho student killer, 30, in his cell with bright red hands just weeks after his sentencing. 6 6 6 It comes after reports Kohberger suffers from obsessive-compulsive disorder and regularly washes his hands. The Idaho Department of Correction (IDOC) issued a statement after the video circulated online, warning that it was a violation of their code if real - but was potentially fake or AI produced. "While we cannot yet confirm the veracity of the videos, if verified, they are a clear violation of IDOC policy, and the parties responsible will be held accountable, up to and including termination," it said. "We caution that some videos may be fake or AI-enhanced." The IDOC confirmed it's "investigating the matter." The U.S. Sun is chosing not to publish the full clip until its authenticity and origin is confirmed. In the footage, a man is seeing walking from one side of the jail cell to another and is then seen placing an item on top of a makeshift rack. Kohberger is supposedly seen in the video staring up at the shelf and looking around as he shows no emotion. Criminal defense attorney John W. Day told The U.S. Sun that Kohberger himself would have grounds to sue if the video is real. He also alleged that if the clip was filmed by a prison staffer and leaked online, they could also be fired and hit with a civil suit by their employer, he alleged. "Videotaping and publicly sharing security footage is prohibited conduct, and we will be reviewing all legal options, including criminal prosecution." They added, "The safety and security of our staff and incarcerated population remain our top priority." Count 2: First-degree murder of Madison Mogen: Fixed term of life in prison without the possibility of parole. $50,000 fine and civil penalty of $5,000 payable to the family of the victim. The sentencings will run consecutively to one another. JAIL SPECULATION It is not clear where the video could have been filmed, as Kohberger has been in more than one jail. But the IDOC's statement appears to confirm it looks like the inside of the prison. Kohberger is currently being held at the Idaho Maximum Security Institution, but previously spent time at the Ada County Jail and the Latah County Jail. Due to the size of his cell, many social media users have speculated it could have been taken at Ada County. The Ada County Sheriff's Office refuted the speculation in a statement on their Facebook page, however. 'We are aware of the video footage circulating online showing Bryan Kohberger in a cell. We can confirm it was not recorded at and does not feature the Ada County Jail," they said. Former criminology student Kohberger was handed four life sentences plus 10 years without the possibility of parole last month after accepting a plea deal over the murders of four University of Idaho students. Kohberger is now known as inmate number 163214 and is allegedly housed in the medical unit. He was due to go to trial in August for the fatal stabbings of Kaylee Goncalves, Madison Mogen, Xana Kernodle, and Ethan Chapin in an off-campus home in Moscow, Idaho, on November 13, 2022. He was studying for a Ph.D. in criminology at Washington State University in Pullman, Washington, at the time of the murders. Kohberger was arrested at his parents' home in Pennsylvania weeks after the tragedy as police closed in on him. They had linked him to the crime scene using DNA recovered from a knife sheath, according to a probable cause affidavit. His cell phone location data and surveillance footage of a car the same make and model as his own also helped investigators to allegedly place him at the scene. Since he was convicted, authorities have publicly released hundreds of documents relating to his case. One inmate recalled how Kohberger quickly immersed himself in TV coverage of his arrest when he was first locked up in early January 2023. But they claimed he would change the channel if his family or friends were mentioned. The man described the killer as "highly intelligent and analytical," though lacking in basic knowledge about ordinary things such as cars. "His eyes were… creepy, I guess, but other than that, he seemed like a pretty normal guy," he added. Kohberger's compulsive cleaning habits were impossible to ignore, according to the documents. He showered for an hour at a time, washed his hands constantly, and tore through three bars of soap a week, leaving his hands raw. Food influencers hit by car while reviewing burgers
A pair of social media influencers have been hit by a car that crashed through a restaurant window as they made a video review. Nina Santiago and Patrick Blackwood were recording the social media content at CuVee's Culinary Creations in Houston, Texas, when the SUV smashed through the glass on Sunday. In a 30-minute video they posted on YouTube, the couple are seen picking up their sandwich sliders – small burgers – and taking a bite just as the car hits the restaurant. Glass shatters over their food before they are knocked to the floor. Mr Blackwood quickly gets up, grabs Ms Santiago's arm and moves them out of the way. Both escaped with minor cuts and bruises. Ms Santiago, who goes by the handle Nina Unrated, has nearly a million followers across YouTube, Instagram and TikTok. She also has an OnlyFans account and often posts videos of dance routines. Mr Blackwood has a much smaller following with his wellness and food content. They share a joint YouTube channel called Unrated EX Files where they visit different restaurants, order vast amounts of food and carry out 'taste tests'. Hospital footage Ms Santiago and Mr Blackwood also included clips from the hospital where they are seen with several cuts on their faces and arms. Ms Santiagio says to the camera that she has 'glass all over her body' and holds up her arm in a bandage. She later says her 'body feels tight' and her 'head hurts a little bit' as she prepares to have stitches. Mr Blackwood called the incident the 'most scariest s--- ever' and said he was 'blessed and grateful' to still be alive. Ms Santiago does not stop filming the pair as they leave the hospital – both wearing blue scrubs – and get into a car. Instead of going straight home, the couple first stop at the restaurant to pick up their car and take a video of the front of the building, with the window boarded up. The video ends with the two creators going back to CuVee's for lunch the following day where they quickly settle in and appear to enjoy their food.
