Ukraine has completed 47% of 2025 missile programme targets

As of 1 June 2025, Ukraine has completed 47% of its planned missile programme tasks for the year. Source: Deputy Minister of Defence Brigadier General Anatolii Klochko, as reported by Mezha Media, a technology and IT news platform within Ukrainska Pravda's holding company Details: Klochko outlined that funding for the missile programme comes from three sources: the state budget, which prioritises the development of modern missile weapons; private business initiatives, funded independently without state support; and international partnerships, providing additional financing and technological assistance. Klochko noted that the Ministry of Defence has established two new bodies to oversee missile development, separating it from the broader weapons systems framework. These are the Department for the Development of Missile Weapons and Missile Defence and the Main Directorate for the Maintenance of Missile Programmes, aimed at reducing bureaucratic obstacles. "If there are questions, we meet directly with manufacturers, communicate and take the initiative to understand what they need to accelerate progress," Klochko said. More details: Klochko highlighted that Ukraine's ballistic missile programme has reached a significant milestone, becoming a key focus of defence development. He described domestic ballistic capabilities as critical for striking strategic Russian targets deep within their defences. The programme is progressing rapidly, with further details to be shared soon. Support Ukrainska Pravda on Patreon!

Zelenskyy calls on US to adapt tougher tone against Russia

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has expressed concern that a "warm conversation" between the United States and Russia will not deter Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin from aggression against Ukraine. Source: Zelenskyy's interview with US television channel Newsmax Quote: "The dialogue between America and Russia resembles a warm conversation. Let's be frank: this will not stop Putin. A change in tone is necessary. Putin must clearly understand that America will stand with Ukraine, particularly through imposing sanctions and supporting our forces. Any signals of aid cuts or attempts to equate Ukraine with Russia are deeply unfair. Russia is the aggressor; it started this war and does not want to end it." Details: Zelenskyy stressed that the international community must send a clear message to Putin: if he refuses to end the war, he will face the strongest possible sanctions. He likened Russia to "a high-speed train with no one at the controls". Quote: "Russia cannot be stopped with words alone. It's like a high-speed train with no one at the controls. Putin has radicalised his society through propaganda. People have been filled with hatred for NATO, the United States and the West. 'We must go all the way,' they say. The second factor is defence production. According to unofficial data, Russia invests US$300 billion annually in such production. They have no intention of stopping. They will do everything to prolong the war." Support Ukrainska Pravda on Patreon!

Ukraine and Russia conduct another POW swap

Ukraine and Russia conducted another POW swap -- the fourth one in a week -- the warring sides said on Saturday, under agreements reached in Istanbul earlier this month. "We continue to take our people out of Russian captivity. This is the fourth exchange in a week," Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky wrote on social media. "In accordance with the Russian-Ukrainian agreements... another group of Russian servicemen was returned from the territory controlled by the Kyiv regime," Russia's defence ministry said on Telegram. Kyiv also said it had received another batch of 1,200 unidentified bodies from Russia, which it said Russia claimed "belong to Ukrainian citizens, including military personnel," as part of the Istanbul agreements as well. Ukraine did not say whether it returned any bodies to Russia. Photos published by Zelensky on Telegram showed men of various ages, mostly with shaved heads, wearing camouflage and draped in Ukrainian flags. Some were injured, others disembarked from buses and hugged those welcoming them, or were seen calling someone by phone, sometimes covering their faces or smiling. Moscow's defence ministry released its own video showing men in uniforms holding Russian flags, clapping and chanting "Russia, Russia", "glory to Russia" and "hooray", some raising their fists in the air. The exchange came as Russia repeatedly rejected ceasefire calls and intensified its offensive along the front line, and especially in the northeastern Sumy region, where it seeks to establish a "buffer zone" to protect its Kursk region, previously partly occupied by Ukraine. Zelensky claimed Russia's advance on Sumy was stopped, adding that Kyiv's forces have managed to retake one village. According to the Ukrainian president, Russia was using 53,000 men in the Sumy operation. bur-asy/rmb
