Moment divebombing seagull snatches golfer's wallet before swooping off with it

Daily Mail3 days ago
A golfer was left chasing the wrong kind of birdie after a divebombing seagull snatched his wallet and swooped off with it.
The visitor to Pebble Beach Golf Links, California - routinely rated the best public golf course in the US - spent his round sprinting across the picturesque seaside scenery in hot pursuit of the grabbing gull.
Golf can often move at a glacial pace but hilarious footage posted on social media shows the player haring along the fairway as the bird makes off with his cash.
The seagull circles the finely-manicured links, almost mocking the golfer, who is dressed in a light grey jumper, black trousers and white golf shoes.
As he continues the chase despite the bird pulling further away, one of his playing partners behind the camera neatly sums up the predicament, saying: 'You gotta be kidding me.'
Other golfers soon start joining the hunt with one firmly ordering: 'Drop the wallet.'
There is a collective sense of dread, however, as the seagull heads towards the cliff, still gripping the valuable item in its beak.
And, then, disaster - the bird releases the wallet as it hovers above the sea, seemingly sealing its soggy fate, a move greeted by squawks from his fellow gulls and gasps from the crowd of Pebble Beach patrons.
Some have their heads in their hands, while the now bereft golfer appears to fall to the floor in anguish.
Incidentally, there is normally plenty of room for birds in golf with a birdie denoting a one under par score on a hole, an eagle a two under par score and an albatross a three under par score - but there are no prizes whatsoever for a seagull.
It is unclear just how much money was in the wallet, although its contents would have been vastly depleted on booking the round of golf, which costs an eye-watering $735 (£546).
Pebble Beach hosted its sixth US Open, one of golf's four Majors, in 2019 and will host anothet four in the next two decades.
The course is among the States' most elite, although it remains open to the general public.
Northern Irish star Rory McIlroy won his first tournament at Pebble Beach this February, scooping up the AT&T Pro-Am title, two months before his famous Masters win.
Birds are by no means the most terrifying sight on US golf courses, with alligators and snakes common features on some fairways, particularly in Florida.
And even in the UK, the gentle civility of a golfing links can be punctured by pesky creatures.
Last June, a golfer was given a fright when he spotted a 3ft-long poisonous snake slithering across a course in Lincolnshire.
As he went to play a shot on the green, businessman Dan Owen, 58, noticed what he first thought was a stick lying in the grass ahead, before he was startled by it starting to slither towards the rough nearby.
Mr Owen managed to grab his mobile phone to film the getaway on the seventh hole at Belton Woods Golf Course, in Grantham, before the slippery customer disappeared into the undergrowth.
He suspects the creature may have been a black adder, the UK's only native breed of venomous snake, the bite of which can have severe consequences as severe as kidney failure.
The father-of-four, who runs his own manufacturing firm, said: 'It was just lying there basking as they do, basking in the sun. I thought it was a stick at first but as I got closer I got a bit of a shock.'

Brad Pitt burglary: Four teens arrested also targeted other LA stars, say police

Four teenagers have been arrested over a burglary that left actor Brad Pitt's home ransacked, police suspects are allegedly behind a number of "celebrity burglaries" that targeted the houses of actors and professional athletes, Los Angeles Police Chief Jim McDonnell said the male suspects, two 18-year-olds and two boys aged 17 and 16, are alleged street gang members, and property stolen in the burglaries was found when police searched their did not name those whose homes were targeted by the suspects, but celebrities including Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban, LA Dodgers pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto and LA Football Club's Olivier Giroud have reported break-ins this year. The investigation started in late June after Pitt's home was ransacked by a trio of masked thieves. McDonnell said the group hopped a perimeter fence surrounding the Los Feliz home and shattered a window, hopping inside and taking items before fleeing. Police did not confirm the home belonged to the Oscar-winning actor, but the address matched that of a home Pitt bought in large three-bedroom home sits just outside Griffith Park, which is home to the famous Hollywood Sign. It is surrounded by a large fence and greenery that shields the home from public was not home at the time of the burglary and was promoting his new film, F1. The BBC has contacted representatives for the actor. McDonnell said investigators found the suspects were part of a crew that "were burglarizing various high-profile residents throughout the city", which he said included homes of "actors and professional athletes". Last week, authorities followed the four suspects and were able to arrest them on burglary charges, he added. Police did not elaborate on what items were recovered after police searched their homes. McDonnell said burglars like this group had become increasingly smart in their crimes - planting surveillance cameras in nearby flowerbeds or across the street from homes they target to monitor a victim's routine. He said thieves had also been using wi-fi jammers to knock out home surveillance systems and cameras that could alert homeowners or police of a break-in. He noted that celebrities and athletes can be easier targets since their appearances and games are publicised online. He noted, though, that anyone posting on social media about their travels can unknowingly be alerting a potential thief to their location. "We don't really give enough thought to... [while] we want our friends to know where we are and what we're doing, you're telling everybody else then who may be looking to exploit your situation," McDonnell said.

Andy Carroll 'DUMPS' Lou Teasdale after police questioned him over boozy rows in Greece as he unfollows her and tells pals he's 'sick' of her demands

Andy Carroll has reportedly dumped his girlfriend Lou Teasdale following a string of heated rows. It comes just two months after it was reported that the former Premier League striker, 36, was questioned twice by Greek police over a series of bust-ups with Lou, 41, while the pair holidayed in Mykonos, Greece. The pair, who were together for just over a year, have now unfollowed each other on social media and Andy has wiped all trace of Lou from his Instagram. A source told The Sun: 'Andy got sick of Lou's demands and her influencer lifestyle. 'She's always posting on social media and he hates that. He told her it was over this week. He's single now.' The father-of-five returned to the UK with Dagenham & Redbridge last month after a two-year spell in France. The insider added: 'It's been a tough time and now he's back in the UK, he just wants to focus on football and his kids. 'He hates the influencer lifestyle. He has no interest in posing for loved-up pics.' Daily Mail has approached Andy and Lou's representatives for comment. The couple's last public outing was at an Oasis gig at the end of July, where they packed on the PDA, proving they were still together. The date night came after the ex footballer was interrogated about the arguments with his make-up artist lover in a restaurant and at their hotel on the Greek party island, The Sun on Sunday reports. Speaking about the first incident, a worker at the Nikolus Tavern told the newspaper: 'He seemed very drunk and furious with his partner. 'He was using very bad words. It was improper behaviour. The woman looked very upset.' According to the restaurant worker, police arrived and took the ex-Liverpool, Newcastle United and England striker aside for a chat, before he was later allowed back to girlfriend Lou. 'Police spoke to him. He was allowed to return, and the couple left after paying for their meal. Andy was very calm when the police arrived — he stood up and spoke to them outside the restaurant', the restaurant worker added. Just hours later, cops were called again by hotel staff following reports of damage in their room. Daily Mail understands that the former England forward - once Britain's most expensive Premier League footballer when bought by Liverpool from Newcastle for £35million - was taken to the police station for questioning, but he was not arrested and no further action was taken. The incident was confirmed by a hotel employee, who claimed Carroll broke the door. That night, Lou left the hotel and spent the night at Soho Roc House. A joint statement from the couple given to The Sun said: 'Whilst having a private dinner in a restaurant on a quiet holiday in Mykonos, we had a heated discussion of the sort that most couples have had on occasion. It quickly became apparent to the police that there was no reason for them to be there. 'We went outside the restaurant with them together as they insisted they wanted to 'look after' us. 'As far as we are concerned, the situation has been blown out of all proportion by an interested member of the public. No one was arrested and no one was charged with anything. We are very happy, in love and looking forward to our future together and we are disappointed that a private disagreement has become a public matter.' The pair began dating last year after he separated from his TOWIE star wife Billi Mucklow last September. Carroll and Mucklow called it quits divorce after two years of turbulent marriage, the footballer confirmed last year. In 2022, their wedding was almost called off when Carroll was pictured drunkenly passed out in bed with two women in Dubai on his stag do. Mucklow forgave him after one of the women insisted nothing sexual happened. Less than two years after their nuptials, the couple's marriage was over - with Carroll confirming they had started divorce proceedings after 'a hard few months for our family'. Carroll said in a statement at the time: 'Billi and I have privately separated earlier this year and we are under way with our divorce proceedings'. 'It has been a hard few months for our family and we continue to move forward amicably for our children.' Carroll and Mucklow have three children together Arlo, Wolf, and Marvel Mae and she also raises his two children Emilie Rose, 15, and Lucas, 14 from his past relationship.

Chargers WR Ladd McConkey (undisclosed) returns to practice

August 13 - Los Angeles Chargers wide receiver Ladd McConkey was back at practice and participating in 11-on-11 drills Tuesday after missing time with an undisclosed injury, according to The Athletic. Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh had previously said that McConkey was "working through something minor" while not disclosing which body part he had injured. McConkey had been limited or absent the last two weeks of practice before returning on Tuesday, per media reports. McConkey also refused to disclose what injury he had been dealing with, simply saying, "I'm good." "I feel really good. It felt great to get back out there a little bit, catching passes," McConkey said. " ... I feel like I'm (100 percent) now. It's just building everything back up, getting in the swing of things, getting my conditioning back where it needs to be." McConkey is looking to build on a breakout rookie season in 2024 during which he led the team and set Chargers regular-season rookie records with 82 receptions and 1,149 receiving yards, breaking records previously set by Keenan Allen in 2013, to go along with his seven touchdown catches. In his playoff debut, McConkey set an NFL rookie postseason record with 197 receiving yards in the Chargers' 32-12 loss at Houston. He scored the team's lone touchdown of the game on an 86-yard catch-and-run scramble into the end zone. -Field Level Media
