BJP files complaint against Independent MLA Akhil Gogoi

Time of India27-04-2025

Guwahati: BJP on Sunday lodged a complaint with the state election commissioner against Independent MLA
Akhil Gogoi
for violating the model code of conduct by allegedly making communal and divisive remarks. Gogoi has apologised for his remarks.
Notably, intense campaigning is on in Assam for the two-phase panchayat election slated for May 2 and 7.
In the complaint, state vice-president of the party, Ashok Kumar Bhattarai, claimed that Gogoi, who represents the Sivasagar constituency, allegedly said if Muslims vote for BJP, they would be considered "kafirs" and would face punishment from Allah.
"Such comments not only hurt the religious sentiments of the Muslim community deeply but also attempt to create conflict between the Muslim community and a particular political party. Further, the statements amount to a direct attempt to interfere with the free and fair exercise of the democratic right to vote, which is guaranteed to every citizen under the Constitution," Bhattarai said in the complaint.

The BJP leader further said Gogoi's remarks were a blatant violation of the model code, which strictly prohibits the use of religion, caste or community sentiments to influence voters and mandates maintaining communal harmony during the panchayat election process.
"Therefore, the party has demanded strict and appropriate legal and electoral action against Gogoi for his gross violation of the model code to uphold the sanctity of the electoral process," he said.
Meanwhile, Gogoi, in a video message on social media on Saturday night, apologised for his remarks and said he made a mistake and should not have spoken in such a manner.

New Delhi, Jun 3 (PTI) Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Tuesday said that those spreading 'rumour' of slum demolitions in the city will face police action. The ruling BJP is facing a lot of criticism from opposition parties over the demolition of the Madrasi camp slum in south Delhi. 'The chief minister stated that some individuals are spreading misinformation about slum demolitions, whereas the government has assured that no slum will be demolished without providing permanent housing to the residents,' the statement said. Strict action will be taken against those spreading such rumours, it said. During the meeting, Gupta directed officials to maintain sewage, drainage, drinking water, roads, street lighting, community toilets, and waste management in slum clusters. 'It is our responsibility to ensure they receive the same facilities as other city residents. Our goal is not just redevelopment but also improving their quality of life,' she said. Adityanath urges BJP leaders to amplify Modi govt's 11-year achievements

Themed '11 Years of Service, Good Governance and Poor Welfare ('seva, sushashan aur gareeb kalyan ke 11 varsh)', the event began with floral tributes to Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya, the UP government said in a statement. Addressing a state-level workshop organised in Lucknow on the completion of 11 years of the Modi government, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said that it is the good fortune of the nation to have the impactful leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the Amrit Kaal of independence. Lucknow, Jun 3 (PTI) Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday urged BJP workers to take the achievements of the central government to every citizen. Urging party workers to focus on grassroots engagement, the chief minister said it is everyone's responsibility to communicate the government's 11 years of achievements at the booth level. He called for connecting all sections and organisations with the campaign and highlighting success stories of beneficiaries. Adityanath said that the 11 years of Modi government's performance form the foundation for realizing the vision of a developed India. 'Workers must play an active role in disseminating these achievements at the state, district, mandal, and Shakti Kendra levels,' he said. He encouraged workers not to limit the campaign to the party cadre, but to engage with the general public, professional groups, and direct beneficiaries. Citing recent by-elections, he said that coordinated meetings of party departments and cells had proved effective. BJP's six morchas and 22-23 cells represent every segment of society, including lawyers, doctors, teachers, students, and beneficiaries. Organising meetings with these groups and selecting speakers from among them would ensure effective outreach, he said. Highlighting the success of the Ayushman Bharat scheme, Adityanath said that where once illness became a crisis for families, today over 50 crore people in India, including 10 crore in Uttar Pradesh, are covered under the scheme. Through the Ayushman Bharat Vay Vandana Yojana, senior citizens above the age of 70 receive free health coverage of up to Rs 5 lakh, without any discrimination. Speaking on progress in healthcare, he said that prior to 2014, India had only one AIIMS. While Atal Bihari Vajpayee established six AIIMS, the Modi government has added 22 more, including two in Uttar Pradesh. The 'One District, One Medical College' vision has made institutions a reality in remote districts such as Maharajganj, Lakhimpur Kheri, and Mirzapur, providing both healthcare access and employment. He urged workers to proudly promote these achievements and counter misinformation from the opposition. He said that PM Narendra Modi is the first Prime Minister to restore Ayodhya's glory. He urged workers to actively participate in programmes like the Tiranga Yatra, Ahilyabai Holkar anniversary, and International Yoga Day. He also called on BJP workers to participate in the Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam campaign and River Rejuvenation Programme on World Environment Day (June 5). Adityanath concluded by stating that Uttar Pradesh, under the leadership of the double-engine government, is reaching new heights of development. KTR assures support for Indian students in US

Hyderabad: Assuring Indian students studying in the United States that the BRS would stand by those facing difficulties for various reasons, BRS working president KT Rama Rao stated that many students travel to the US for higher education with great hopes. If they unknowingly make mistakes due to a lack of awareness, the BRS' US wing would work to provide the necessary legal assistance. He acknowledged the emotional toll experienced when students are forced to return under such circumstances, affecting not just the individuals themselves but also their families. Therefore, a decision was made to support them, he said. KTR also advised that students must understand US laws, societal changes, and adapt accordingly. Every student should be well-informed about local laws and social dynamics. He also interacted with students at the University of Texas at Dallas on Monday and responded to several questions posed by them. He emphasised that pursuing education in the US involves significant effort and financial investment, but noted that the world is changing rapidly and new opportunities are emerging. He also pointed out that US education has become more accessible to many. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Volks-Treppenlift in Baden-württemberg: So kosten Treppenlifte fast nichts Treppenlift-Vergleich Mehr erfahren Undo KTR urged students to focus not only on ranks and grades, but also on broader life goals. He remarked that life passes quickly and that one should strive to realise their dreams and aspirations within this short span. Even in the face of obstacles or detractors, he encouraged students to move forward with dedication. He stressed that students should not aim solely for employment, but aspire to bring about positive change in society and the world. KTR highlighted the pace of global innovation and underscored the importance of India competing in this space. He encouraged Indian students in the US to concentrate on innovation. He cited the life of K Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR) as proof that dreams can come true when one is willing to take risks. He recalled how KCR, at an age considered young in politics (early 40s), gave up official positions to fight for the creation of Telangana. Though many ridiculed him at the time, after 14 years of determined struggle, he succeeded in achieving statehood, earning respect from across society. The former minister answered several questions from students and encouraged them to return to India after completing their studies to start their own ventures. Despite numerous challenges, he reminded them that India is full of opportunities. He expressed concern over the ongoing brain drain and urged Indian youth abroad to contribute to the development of India and Telangana.
