RM8 million CBT trial of Fashion Valet founders to begin April 2026

(Bernama pic) Kuala Lumpur: The sessions court has set 15 days for trial next year for the case of Fashion Valet Sdn Bhd founders Vivy Sofinas and her husband Fadzarudin Shah Anuar, who are facing charges of criminal breach of trust involving RM8 million in investment funds from Khazanah Nasional Bhd and Permodalan Nasional Bhd. Judge Rosli Ahmad set the trial dates for April 13 to 17, May 18 to 22, and June 8 to 12. 'The trial will run for 15 days, and the court has set the next case mention for Oct 27,' said Rosli. Lawyer M Athimulan is representing the couple. Deputy public prosecutor Wan Shaharuddin Wan Ladin asked the court to fix the trial dates agreed upon by both the prosecution and defence. Wan Shaharuddin also told the court that the prosecution would call 26 witnesses to testify.
Advertisement The accused, both 37, were not present in court today as they were exempted from attending. On Dec 5 last year, Vivy and Fadzarudin pleaded not guilty to committing CBT in their capacity as directors of Fashion Valet. They were accused of misappropriating investment funds entrusted to them by Khazanah and PNB by transferring RM8 million from Fashion Valet's company account to 30 Maple Sdn Bhd without the approval of the board of directors. The offence was allegedly committed at Public Bank Bhd, Bukit Damansara Branch, 36-40 Medan Setia 2, Plaza Damansara, Bukit Damansara, here, on Aug 21, 2018. The charge, framed under Section 409 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 34 of the same code, provides for a minimum sentence of two years and a maximum of 20 years in jail, whipping, and a fine upon conviction. Resolve Technical Issues In Development Projects Promptly, Says Anwar
KUALA LUMPUR, June 23 (Bernama) -- Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has called for all technical issues involving various government agencies related to national development projects to be resolved promptly to ensure smooth implementation. The meeting focused on three main matters - outcomes of the Special State Development Meeting, improvements in project implementation by the Public Works Department (JKR) and the implementation of vertical schools in major urban areas. Anwar, who is also Finance Minister, said delays in project implementation and bureaucratic hurdles inherited since the 1980s must not be repeated. 'We cannot afford to repeat the same failures. Time does not wait for us, and the people demand action, not excuses,' Anwar stressed. Touching on the need to address the realities of increasingly dense urban development, Anwar said the government is committed to introducing a new approach in the provision of educational infrastructure through the vertical school model in locations such as Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Penang. 'With the support of private developers, the Housing and Local Government Ministry (KPKT) and the Ministry of Education will work closely to ensure the success of this initiative, so that access to quality education remains assured for urban children despite limited space,' he said. -- BERNAMA

Man's body discovered off Tanjung Aru coast

KOTA KINABALU: Police have launched an investigation after a man's body was found floating in the sea near the Sunsite Bar area in Tanjung Aru on Monday. The discovery was reported to authorities by the Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) at around 2.30pm. APM personnel retrieved the body and brought it ashore to the APM Tower in Tanjung Aru for further action. Police units from the Kota Kinabalu MPV teams and Kepayan Ridge Patrol Unit, along with forensic officers, were deployed to the scene. One child dead, one hospitalised after being hit by car

KOTA KINABALU: Police are investigating a fatal road accident involving two young girls on Jalan Tun Fuad Stephen, near Teluk Likas, on Monday morning. The crash, which occurred at about 9.45am, involved a Perodua Axia driven by a 55-year-old local man who struck the girls, aged 12 and 7, while they were crossing the road. City police chief ACP Kasim Muda confirmed that one child died at the scene while the other sustained head injuries and is being treated at Likas Hospital in stable condition. The driver was unhurt and initial checks showed no signs of alcohol or drug use, although a toxicology test has been taken for further confirmation.
