Akash Deep Slams Maiden Test Fifty To Script History, Joins Shane Warne In Elite List For Rare Test Record

Akash Deep frustrated England with the bat and scripted history after scoring his maiden Test half-century on Day 3 of the fifth Test of the ongoing Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy at The Oval on Saturday. Sent in as a nightwatchman late on day two, Akash Deep resumed his innings at the score of 4 on day three and played an extraordinary knock in the first session, scoring 66 off 94 balls with the help of 12 boundaries. He was eventually dismissed by Jamie Overton towards the end of the first session with a short ball. Akash Deep's 66 is the second-highest score by an Indian nightwatchman in Test cricket. Notably, the highest score by an Indian nightwatchman is Amit Mishra's 84 against England, which the leg-spinner hit at the same venue in 2011. The 28-year-old became only the second man after Shane Warne this century to score a fifty and take a 10-wicket haul in England as an opposition player. Former Australia spinner Warne achieved this rare feat in 2005. Interestingly, there are only five instances of an Asian player achieving this double in a SENA country. Most runs in a Test series by an Indian: Shubman Gill second on list after Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy campaign ends

Shubman Gill ended his Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy series campaign against England with 754 runs in 10 innings—the second-highest run tally registered by an Indian in a Test series. Though Gill had a shot at going past Sunil Gavaskar's record of 774 runs, the Indian skipper was dismissed for 11 in the second innings of the fifth and final Test at the Oval in London on Saturday. Gill was 21 runs short of going past Gavaskar's tally. Gavaskar had tallied 774 runs in eight innings at an average of 154.80 during a Test series in West Indies in 1970-71. His stupendous form saw him rack up four hundreds and three fifties in eight innings during that tour. Meanwhile, Gill finished with an average of 75.40 and struck four centuries in 10 innings in his debut series as captain. Most runs in a Test series by an Indian 774 runs - Sunil Gavaskar vs West Indies, 1970-71 754 runs - Shubman Gill vs England, 2025 732 runs - Sunil Gavaskar vs West Indies, 1978-79 712 runs - Yashasvi Jaiswal vs England, 2023-24 692 runs - Virat Kohli vs Australia, 2014-15

Australia Stun British And Irish Lions 22-12 In Third Test

A fearless Australia stunned the British and Irish Lions 22-12 in a chaotic third Test interrupted by lightning Saturday to deny them a series whitewash in a huge confidence-boost for Joe Schmidt's side. In bouts of torrential rain at Sydney's Stadium Australia, the hosts went to the break with an 8-0 lead after an eighth-minute try before showing steely nerve to finish the job.
